Ok, it looks like we about have a full house! In case you don't notice the post, I have confirmation that we got the dates we wanted, and I have invoices. The money for the first part isn't due until January 14th, so that will give us a paycheck or 2 after Christmas to get the $50.

Southwest has the best airfares right now and two free luggage, and they bought Airtran which is based in Atlanta.

Suzi, what a generous offer!! I am all about keeping costs down for this trip too (more to shop with)!!! You offered some great suggestions like sending some stuff ahead of time and having it mailed back after the retreat. Sounds like you may be a natural born planner!!

I am very much looking forward to meeting all of you girls and I love the fact that we nearly have a full house!! Something tells me this is gonna be a great trip!!!

Thank you Suzi! I appreciate the oppurtunities to save money. I can
t look at or buy tickets until January as it is so I wont know my details until then, but I do know that I will need someone to pick me up from what ever airport I end up in.I'm flying in from the west coast so it's gonna be an all day adventure in travel to get there. THat's why I was contemplating coming in a day early, so I could enjoy all the shopping fun. I no longer have a LSS so it's fun to shop without using a computer.

I have a question about food. I know we are each supposed to provide some of the food, but how is that going to work? Which meal do we have to provide for and is there a grocery store nearby? I'm just trying to figure out exactly what I have to plan for money wise.

Great suggestions and questions.

I did ask about the catering, and if we chose to do that, it would be an additional $175 per person for meals, drinks, and snacks. I think we can do it much less expensively, and with the convenience of ready made meals, it won't be that much of a hassle.

The retreat owner indicated to me that the check-in times are a little bit flexible, so if everyone comes in the night before, we may be able to get the house before 3. I'll contact her closer to the time, she may have the house rented for Mon-Wed to someone else.

I'm going to use the 2nd post on the first page for meal planning.

Does anyone have a preference for what meal they provide?

Does anyone have any food allergies? Is anyone diabetic?

Thanks for the info Rosita! You are right, I think we can definately get food for cheaper on our own. To answer your question about food allergies. I have one. A serious one. I am allergic to eggs. if I eat them I will have to go to the hospital. THis mainly affects breakfast ( more then the rest of the meals) and I will provide my own breakfasts if I can get to a grocery store.

OK, I kind of see where you're going with this Traci, If there are 14 of us and only 8 meals, how to make this fair? Do we want to just order meals and split the cost? How about pairing up and two people take a meal and share the cost and preparation (even if the preparation could be one person looking up the phone number of the delivery place and another person actually dialing the number)?

Me, I'm kinda selfish and want to try some of the dishes y'all have mentioned.

Oh, and I do realize that Rebecca will be bringing her own food for her special diet so she won't have to help with any of the meals.

We have grocery stores all over the place here in GA. And we'll be visiting them.

You won't be able to eat my french toast, but could you eat a waffle if it's made from a mix?

Oh, and for the record, you'll be getting $25 back from me once everyone gets there. If you've done the math, I've allowed a little bit of a cushion in case someone is late paying because I am not in a position to front the money, and I don't want us to lose our reservation. (Please don't take this as permission to pay late! It's just for your budget planning.)

In the past, there have always been people who have paid late, or canceled at the last minute because they didn't have the money. I DO NOT anticipate this being an issue, and am sure that if anything happens, there will be girls willing to take a place.

There is something I feel I should mention. Due to the army there is a slight chance I wont be there. It all depends on when they give my husband his mid-deployment leave. Obviously if it falls over that time I wont be going to georgia. But EVEN IF THAT HAPPENS I WILL STILL BE PAYING MY $100. You wonderful ladies are not army wives, so I don't expect you all to take up the slack for tit's desicions. And yes, that was part of the original conversation with hubby about all of this. He is requesting his leav to be in June so we should be ok.

I admit that I'm not the best cook, so which ever meal I'm a part of will involve take-out most likely, or a really simple meal.

Nikilynn, how much trouble would it be to make something with homemade tortillas? I really want to know how to make the flour tortillas. I'll even bring my comal and press.

One very simple meal would be Stoffer's Lasagna, salad, and garlic toast.

Spaghetti can be a very simple meal.

Pizza a la Domino's works too.

Someone may want to do sandwiches and chips for a lunch, that would be OK.

Perhaps someone doesn't want to do a meal and would rather buy snacks...

Everyone needs to speak up if you have an opinion.

I use a press for the corn tortillas, didn't know if you used them with flour ones too.

Since you're bringing the tortillas with you, do you want to have the dinner on Thursday or Friday?

Supposedly I will about the leave stuff at the end of December. But the army is extremely well know for changing it's mind so even those dates will be flexiable by 1-2 weeks in either direction. So like I said, I should be good, but you will have the money no matter what!

I have some thoughts and ideas to share. Look we know where or about where everyone lives. So here goes:
The southern states that border GA could also be used as a place to fly into and the ones of us driving could pick you ladies up. Flying in to Atlanta isnt a problem to pick up either. You know most everyone already knows what state we all live in anyway. I am in TN by way of GA, I have lived in the Atlanta area all my life and just moved to TN 8 years ago. (Dont worry I dont mail from my address to my SS.) So if you would like to fly into Nashville or Chattanooga I and/or Betsye can pick you up. I have a Tahoe that seats me plus 7 more. I do have the luggage bag for the top with rails too. If need be I also have a trailer, it is not enclosed but I may be able to find one by then. Just giving you an opportunity to fly in where it may be cheaper or more convenient for you. Another airport could be Huntsville, AL which someone may be happy to pick up there too. Its all about saving $$$.

We need to get together as to what we need, for the ones of us driving in we can manage to bring what you don’t want to fly in. Also you can mail to us and we can mail back out to you. I took everything but my Cricut when I flew to OH, I can pack. I use my Crop Hopper and checked it with my huge suitcase plus my carry on.

Southwest has the best airfares right now and two free luggage, and they bought Airtran which is based in Atlanta.

If we are all meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday. My City!!! There are certain areas of Atlanta you need to stay out of. Let me look into where you/we need to stay, for fun and safety. Also I’ll check and see what is happening in the city that night.

Feel free to comment on my thoughts. I am new to Crop Events, but not new to planning/working events.

I feel like Deb, where I scrap very much doesnt matter to me as long as I get to meet everyone.

I probably will not be staying at the Retreat but, would love to pickup anyone from the Huntsville Airport (which usually cost more than) or I could pick anyone up from the Birmingham airport which is on the way to that part of GA. Just thought I'd offer.

Something to consider...Tres was talking tonight about the possibility of coming in a day early (Wednesday evening) and maybe doing something touristy Thursday morning, and my suggestion was to go on a Gone With the Wind tour since she loves GWTW so much. I'm planning on going because I love GWTW too, but maybe not everyone would be interested.

Okay... here is my idea. If we are doing meals in and some order in plus the Olive Garden...

Rosita and I will use the extra cash left over from the deposit to buy drinks (the non-alcoholic ones), snacks, and a goodie bag for each girl. That way, the only extra cash we will need for the retreat will be for the meal you are providing, ordering, or whatever and your own personal spending cash (including the trip to Olive Garden). I talked with Rosita about that and she thought that was a good idea too!

So, when the retreat gets closer, each girl attending needs to put what they like to drink (soda, diet soda, whatever...) and some snacks that they like to munch on when they are scrapping!

Does that sound good to everyone who is going?

OK, I kind of see where you're going with this Traci, If there are 14 of us and only 8 meals, how to make this fair? Do we want to just order meals and split the cost? How about pairing up and two people take a meal and share the cost and preparation (even if the preparation could be one person looking up the phone number of the delivery place and another person actually dialing the number)?

Me, I'm kinda selfish and want to try some of the dishes y'all have mentioned.

Oh, and I do realize that Rebecca will be bringing her own food for her special diet so she won't have to help with any of the meals.

Rosita, thanks, I will be bringing my own food but I am happy to help with the setup, cooking or cleanup. You did say there is a grocery store close by right?? I hope to buy some of what I need to suppliment what I am bringing so I have more space for scrappy stuff!

wait till I tell Jason, he's gonna think I'm nuts.

I'm not such a great cook, especially not in quantities. so I'm happy to chip in for food and help with stuff as long as I don't have sole responsibility.

hugging? oh, the horror! my coworkers won't believe it, when they want to antagonize me, they threaten to hug me, and I threaten to report them to HR for sexual harassment and assault, lol.

it's a long story, Rebecca, which has become much dramatized over the years (I've worked there 8 years, not as long as you, but not too shabby either ) some of my coworkers are such feel-good counseling types, that they hug just about anyone, like it's a habit. I prefer to only hug people that I actually like, rather than hug indiscriminately lol. you'll be fine

over the years, some of my coworkers have misunderstood/dramatized the situation, to which I have responded by exaggerating it even more, since no one seems to listen to me when I tell them that it's not that I don't like touch any one, at all. now it's just become a mountain out of a molehill!

Tina, it's not THAT kind of retreat! Rebecca, since there are other people in Atlanta who follow the same diet you do, I'm sure they have everything here. Could you ask the family you stayed with last time where they shop?

Hey ladies,

I've never gone on a scrapping retreat before, just the all day type crops. I'm kind of wondering what to expect. Can we leave our stuff out for the entire time? Can we scrap all night if we want? Will we actually get anything done...lol!

Are there guidleines about music, cell phones, drinks etc....

I was just browsing another site (I know I'm so bad!) and it seemed like a lot of people had issues with the crop space, ringing cell phones with annoying conversations, drinks on the tables and loud music.

Wow, I totally missed a bunch! I have to think about what to fix. I fix a great breakfast casserole, but it has eggs, so we don't want that. I make good lasagne, but we are going to OG, and I can't compete with that. I am mostly an awesome side dish maker. I don't know what to make! I think I make good chicken and noodles. I also make a pretty good porkroast...is anyone kosher? I could make chicken and noodles for lunch one day.....I am still thinking, but your opinions are helpful.

Tres, the only people who will be in the house is us! You can leave your stuff out the whole time. Each person will have their own table. The bedrooms are upstairs with the kitchen and dining room, the scraproom is downstairs; in the scraproom there are 2 TVs (opposite corners) with satellite, DVD player and movies. You can scrap all night long if you want to. Maybe we can scrap together for a few hours when I get up before you go to bed Some people are sure to get some pages done (me) and some people won't get one page completed (Debbie) LOL, love ya Debs!

Every table has a tag-along, so drinks should not be on the table, but they'll be attached to it.

Guidelines re: cell phones, everyone bring them lol. I, personally, think cell phone usage at the eating table is rude, and don't let my kids have their cell phones at meal times, but I don't say anything to other adults. I'm not sure if anyone will have an annoying conversation, but we all know each other's business anyway, so I don't anticipate that being an issue

Guidelines re: music--we either find something that doesn't give anyone a headache, or change the type hourly. And we should be thoughtful of the level of sound when others are sleeping (i.e. you don't wake me up at 1 am blasting music, and I won't feel obligated to wake you up with music at 5 am) Don't worry, I'll probably bring my earplugs that I take when I go camping with the scouts.

I'm pretty flexible myself, but I detest head banging 'music'.

Guidelines re: drinking--no drinking and driving. Have fun, but be smart. I don't drink very much at all, but unless you are hammered and get rude I won't say anything about how much you drink.
