Hello, Steam Punks and Scrappers!

Welcome to the Steampunk Challenge! This challenge was created due to a demand for it when the Steampunk style was the topic of the Darker Side Challenge. Here is a challenge to showcase all those Steampunk goodies we all love; clocks, gears, wings, metal, vintage, Victorian, collage, and whimsy! Take the plunge into this exciting and eclectic style and have some fun with your scrapping!

This month’s topic is Travel. You can use planes, trains, or automobiles, etc… as long as the page is about travel. Traveling to or from somewhere, where you went on vacation or even waiting at the airport for your flight. As long as you do it up steampunk style!

Remember to let your imagination loose! I want to see those gears turning!

Rules for this challenge:

1. There are no real rules
2. Please post a layout between November 1 and November 29, 2010
3. PM me the numbers of your top 3 votes, along with the number of your layout (if you do not have a layout and still wish to vote, please state that in your PM to me) on November 30, 2010.
4. Everyone is welcome to join this challenge at any time
5. Post as many layouts for this challenge as you wish but please let me know which layout you want as your entry
6. If you receive love, please return love
7. You must participate regularly (at least five posts throughout the month) to be entered in the poll and to vote

I didn't say that I could actually DO a steampunk lo. I just like to play the role of a steampunk scrapper in my mind....my lo usually resembles a steampunk lo in that they both generally started with some sort of paper or cardstock.

Glad to have you all join in!

Summertimehome, For steampunk, a good tip would be to think of everything running on antique gears and anything being possible. Don't limit yourself to things that are real but expand your imagination. If you need more hints on this style type in steampunk into the search box here at scrapbook.com or any search engine. That's how most of us started! So happy you chose this challenge to be one of your first!

Gorgeous work, Karen!

Dh went with me to some craft shows this morning and we stopped by the LSS and he was helping me look for things that would work on a steampunk lo....I think the steampunk look really appeals to him.

Beautiful work, Karen!

Jenny, I think steampunk is pretty masculine with all the gears and grunge. My husband doesn't understand it because it's such a fanciful style! lol.

Closetscraper, so happy for you! Scrappy shopping is always so much fun!

Thanks Fritchey..that made my evening! I really appreciate it cuz I really thought it lacked something. It's funny how we like things better when we see it through the eyes of others.
That Harry Punk or Steamy Potter comment came from my sister, Scrapkaty...she's a card!..that's her in my avatar with the curly hair.

Oh I would love a room full of steampunky junk to play around with! Although, it may not be the same I'm looking into incorporating steampunk accents into my home decor. There is a great little blog called the Steampunk home and there are some wonderful ideas about how to go about it! I just recently spent the last 3 days cleaning out & organizing my scraproom (once & for all!)

I'm happy to report that I am finally DONE!!

Speaking of Steampunk supplies, I ended up stacking all of dedicated Steampunk trunks out in our hallway on a decorative dresser. Honestly, there just isn't enough room for all of them inside of my room!

As for the bulk of my working Steampunk 'junk' I found an early Christmas present & contained all my hardware in an extra cool hardware toolcase.

(I'll share pics of what I'm talking about later this week/weekend!)

I'm almost done using my entire stack of Steampunk G45!

I'm both happy & sorta sad to see it all go!

Just for the record, I don't think I've EVER been through a stack that fast!

Loving the early appearance of Santa Sharon!

I've never spotted him in the sky, but certainly he must have a sleigh just like that in order to get the job done in such a short amount of time!

Sure thing & anytime!

p.s. I don't know if it's just me, but it's always so much more fun to clean other people's houses!

I think I need to swap houses with someone else each month! Sorta like an organizational cleaning swap! Hehe!

Q - For those of you ladies that either frequent your local LSS's or the web...

What are some other possible Steampunk paper lines (besides the Graphic 45 line?)

Or are there any?

I remembering reading that someone had spotted a display within their LSS. However, I'm very curious to know what it actually looks like or consists of?

Karen, you are quite welcome. I hope you find things to your liking there!

Kelly, I just cleaned out and organized my scraproom so I feel your pain! Glad you got through it okay though! Graphic 45 is awesome, love all of there paper pads! And right now, the only other steampunk stuff I can think of is the 7gypsies Paddington line. They have a few sheets of paper, stamps, gears, and rub ons.

Jenny, awesome page! Love the luggage, flower, hot air balloon, and the butterfly! What background paper is that? I love it!

Well, I looked at the back when I pulled it out to use it, and I was positive I'd remember who/what it was....guess what..I didn't remember. So, I just went down to see if I could still see who it was and fortunately I don't have it really smacked down to the cs background, but there are some staples that kind of keep me from seeing. What I could make out was that it was PSX and it was called "Antique Maps"..I think there was another name besides PSX, but I can't see any further without taking the page apart and I can't remember what it might have been. I tried doing a search, but couldn't find it...even searched on ebay and still couldn't find it.

Kelli..I don't know any other steampunk pps lines but Seven Gypsies has some Steampunk rubons...you probably know that.
I love the Tim Holtz pps...they aren't steampunk but can be used for it. My faves are Lost and Found and the new Seasonal pads. The solids are great for backgrounds and there are lots of images you can cut out.

Thanks Celina & Jeannie!

Celina, I'm gonna have to take a peek & look up the info you mentioned!

Jeannie, when I placed my latest order this week, sadly (most likely due to popular demand) the Superstore was completely out of the THoltz Seasonal Paper (sigh!)

It's okay though, because I actually have a whole brand new pack of the Lost & Found Pack. In addition to misc paper that I ordered earlier this season (aka potential Steampunk paper), that's pretty much exactly what I am planning on using in the next couple of months or so.

In the meantime, hopefully, they'll come out with something new!

As for the Steampunk rub-ons put out by 7 Gypsies, I have used both the Time & Victorian sheets. They are visually especially great, but last month, those particular rub-ons & me went to battle. This month, was no different. They are 1) Pretty tiny & or 2) They kept wanting to stick to my fingers/or they would bunch up at the edges. Grr!

Tip - I only have 1 sheet left, but next time, I definitely planning on using some craft tweezers!
