Time to vote, ladies. Please send me your top three choices for each week. Include your layout number so I'll know to give you a vote for voting!

****************

Welcome to the monthly Monochromatic Layout Challenge. Here are the basics of how it works.

1. Each week there will be a color that you can do a layout around. Aside from the neutral palette, this is the only color tone allowed in the layout.

2. NEW NEUTRAL COLOR PALETTE! You may add neutral colors to your layout. Acceptable neutral color tones are white, cream, beige, tan, brown, khaki, olive, black, gray, and navy. These are the colors that my mother always told me "go with everything."

3. The majority of your layout - at least 3/4 - must be the weekly color. Any other colors must come from the neutrals palette.

4. Each week there will be a twist. If you complete the twist, your page gets an extra vote.
MERRY DOUBLE TWIST MONTH!
Just for Christmas, I'm adding a second twist bonus to this challenge. You must complete the FIRST twist to be eligible for the double twist. Double twists count double votes!

5. If you decide that you want to complete ALL the month's layouts in one week that is perfectly fine. You can also do the weeks out of order. Whatever works for you!

6. No sign-up required. Just jump in and have fun whenever you're ready!

7. I'm not the comment police. I know we all get busy and get behind. But we all like to get comments on our projects, so do your best to give love when you get love.

8. Layouts must be new as of December 1st and are DUE no later than midnight SB.com time December 31. Then we'll vote, and I'll RAK the winner.

I've wanted to try this one for a while...count me, I'll give it my best!

One question though....on the first set of twist for each, are we just supposed to use that word in each lo???

LOL Pat...I know I'll never get them done...not in December...but I do know the entries are going to be outstanding!!!

I am curious also how the first twist works...is the LO supposed to be that theme or just use the word?

The twist is open to interpretation - however you want to incorporate it is your choice.

That leaves it WIDE open for creativity, doesn't it? LOL

I get that this time. Last month I was being so literal and so concrete that I locked myself in. This month I GET it! lol

Sure - we'll call anything you cut from your cricut a die cut. You know I'm easy. LOL

Happy December Everyone!

I have no idea why I have signed up for so many challanges before the first of december but somehow it seems to bring some sanity to my otherwise insane scraping!
Does pattern paper work if all the colors are neutral? or is it strictly solids?

As long as the PP is the same color scheme as the color of the week, I believe it is fine to use. Pat can of course correct me if I'm wrong.

Patterned paper is fine, as long as it fits the monochrome color. It can be a pattern of neutrals, the weekly color plus neutrals, or a monochrome pattern of the weekly color.

Whatever works on YOUR project works fine for me!

Hi, ladies! Here are my white entry and my gold entry! Both have the two twists done. The white has Magic as the title and the title is a die cut using my Cricut Expression. The gold has Wish in the backside journaling, "Even though I was not there to witness your union, I wish you the best in your marriage" and there are ribbon strips on the page.

Summer - there's no "start and finish" dates. It's a month long challenge, with one color for each week of the month. You can do them all at once, one a week, in any order - however you want to do them.

The only deadline is the end of the month - at which point you'll have turned in whichever ones you got done.

It's sort of a low pressure, pace yourself kind of thing. Does that help?

Here is my week #4 white....only 1 twist - the wishing part unless the Dusty Attic counts as the die cut. I consider it more of a laser cut.
OK - I amended mine to include both twists per the response directly below this...thanks Pat. Christmas bonus!!!

Hmmmmm. Well, technically CRICUT isn't a die cut either, but I'm counting IT so I'll count the DA as a die cut too.

Why not. It's Christmas. LOL

Drea - I'm one of those laid back, no stress, have some fun, and enjoy the ride kinda hostesses. My challenge philosophy is:

#1. Your real life is the most important thing.

Memories can't be made when you spend all your time in your scrap room. Hug your loved ones every chance you get, and don't pass up an opportunity to spend time with them. Your paper and embellishments won't notice if you neglect them and that layout won't know that it didn't get done in time for the "whatever-it-was" challenge.

#2. Have fun.

I think the most important part - ok ONE of the most important parts - of this hobby is that it's supposed to be FUN. Adding stress on top of fun isn't fun. It makes it quit BEING fun. So if it's not fun, why do it?

#3. Challenge by choice.

They are YOUR photographs and they should be archived the way YOU want to do them. A challenge is only a suggestion or a creative spark to get you started. It's not a box that you have to live inside. If the color doesn't work, or the twist doesn't appeal to you, skip it. Your final project should be something YOU really, REALLY love.

#4. Leave a little love when you can manage it.

There are SO many people in this community, and there are SO many forums to participate in, and there are SO many layouts to look at. It's possible to get so caught up in commenting on everyone's project that you can forget that the whole PURPOSE of a challenge is to get YOUR photos archived. It's wonderful to share, and that's a really great part of this community, but if you dont' have time to comment on every single project - then don't. I'm pretty sure that EVERYONE would much rather get one genuine constructive comment as opposed to a dozen drive bys.

#5. Feel good - REALLY good - about what you get done!

At the end of the day, no comment or opinion in the world matters as much as your own. You've created something beautiful, and you should be PROUD of it. Put it out on display on a tabletop easel in your home while you move on to the next one. That way you can look at it and enjoy it for a while. When you create a new project - move your old one to it's final home in your scrapbook. That way, you always have "new artwork" on display and you give the people in your "real time" world a chance to comment on your work as well!

I actually DID one this month - oh, wait, I did one LAST month too.

I think I did both twists -- the Magic is from the quote, "Little girls have a magic all their own." The die cuts are the TH tattered florals with the vintage button centers.

Man it's nice to have my mojo back. I've been MISSING it.

And here is my week #2...and that finishes me up for the month! LOL!!! I didn't know what direction to go in for this color. But I know Pat is open to some interpretation. So I tried to make my page look more like the color that candle light casts, a softer yellow/cream feel. There are some more yellow tones, but I feel like this kind of fits but bill. And the birds are embossed in gold. AND I decided to fully embrace the "candle" thing and I burned the edges of the paper.

The "wish" part of the twist is, this is one of my biggest wishes that I know I'll never achieve, but I want to get as close as I can. And that is to see every Utah bird.

I'm working on my green layout - using some old Cosmo Cricket winter paper. I'm kind of liking it - it's also for my "scrap the person ahead of you" project. I started fussy cutting and just don't seem to be able to figure out where to QUIT.

I'm hoping to get it finished sometime today - or tonight. I have to work at the shop until dinner time, so I may not have enough daylight to photograph it. But it'll be up by tomorrow afternoon for sure.

Just popping in as I know you have an all-white challenge. Just wanted to ask - do you have to do all 4 weeks or can you do just 1? I have an all-white one that I did today but I'm pretty sure I'll not get to the other colours. If it's all 4 weeks that no problem at all

This one is for reindeer brown and I have used the word time. If it counts torwards embossing the gingham strips are dry embossed with corrigated lines.

Here's my Green one. No twist - other than Cowboy really BELIEVED that it was a mistake being left in the house while Amy went outside to play!

Here is my final monochrome page - Brown with bothe twists. Time is shown in all the clocks and all the brown papers are embossed (from Co'ordinations).
