TIP OF THE DAY #6 ( Page 37 ):

TIP OF THE DAY #6:

Remember, you are only as SHARP as the edge of your scissors.

Clean and sharpen often. To clean, use rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball or Q-Tip. To sharpen, use a sharpening tool for best results.

For decorative scissors or paper punches, use several cuts or punches on aluminum foil and follow with wax paper to keep them from sticking.

Dust and clean your cutting machines and paper trimmers often. To keep a sharp cut, replace blades as often as needed. Keep extra blades on hand for this purpose.

Don't be a DULL scrapper, get the POINT?!!

PAST TODs:
(#1) - Search sites like free cycle and Craigs list for furniture ... might find some free or cheep that can be painted. ( Page 4 )
(#2) - Save containers that are trash to reuse for organizational options( Page 9 )

16. Brittany/californiaphoeni x
I have a room now! Though that may change at some point this year.
My desk is the worst spot. When I just had a corner in a room, everything was in arm's reach and it was quick to put something back right away. Now my desk just collects everything I've used since the last time I cleaned it. It's driving me nuts!

17. Sabrina/scrapinbabygal

18. Stephanie/ stephie056
Half a room for now
My desktop becomes a dumping ground and gets trashed between every project!
I will get pics & an album set up asap

19. Katie/kdinsmore
My own room, 11'x 9'
I have some piles from when we moved in 8 months ago I want to remove and I also have a basket of unsorted items.
I posted some pre and post-organization pictures a few days ago, and they are in Scraproom 2011.

23. Siimplicity/Christy
I have about 2/3rds of a computer room...trying to figure out how to just take the other 3rd!
I struggle most with all those "new" purchases I've made. They end up in a basket and probably don't get used as much since they get buried under the piles of "newer" purchases.

Since I just moved to this house, I'm starting from scratch in the organization process of all my 'tools' and 'supplies'.

27. Hilda/hildamor
I have a small room with built in cabinets, which take a lot of space because they're are about 24" deep leaving very little space for desk/table, etc and a lot of wasted space within as most shelves are not adjustable.
My biggest problem area is definitely my desk/work area.
I will be creating a new folder for pics in the next few days...I've never uploaded any photos to a challenge so I'll need to figure out how to create the folder, etc.

The room is a small bedroom, about 10 x 7 (with new carpet!)

Biggest problem: I really need more horizontal workspace and a small amount of taller shelf-space -- how to solve this problem w/no budget, and/or work around it in the meantime

Hi there Grace!

I just set up a new album! Clean, fresh & new, I say!

I'm already so very excited!

I recently switched from the smallest room in the house, to a much larger space.

For the most part it's set up, however, you know me, I see projects galore as I look around.

So much to do & so little time!

How is your new space working out?

Did you ever finish all your major & extra detailed paint jobs at home?

Well I have painted one more room after the Scraproom but then we installed the hardwood floors our selves, built a rather large pergola for the patio this summer and such. Now that the holidays are over I shall start painting once again! I have some ideas for the kid's rooms, the laundry room and our master suite. Oh and then there is the Mural in the kitchen.. LOL.

You got a bigger room! Grats! How are you liking living there? Been a couple of years now right? Can't wait to see your space, you always have such great ideas for storage solutions.

I've been able to keep my room fairly organized for the most part. My paper storage isn't working out so well, so maybe I'll participate for that. Of course, if I just went through it and destashed it probably wouldn't be as much of a problem. lol.

Or, you know, if I actually scrapped as much as I buy!

I'll fill out the other stuff later. I made a conscious effort not to participate in any challenges this month so as February nears I will get you the rest.

I am looking forward to doing this because Lord know I need to do something with my Scrapping Corner. I am also looking forward to getting to know others and learning some organization tricks and storage.

I made an Album to keep my Pictures in but I can not figure out how to put them in the Album so I made a like to my Scraproom Tab.

If some one can tell me how to do the Album and pics to the album it would be greatly appreciated.

OK just completed my post. I am so excited to do it again. I love how you helped me with my room last year. It works as far as scrapbooking. The exercise equipment is giving me issues still. It is too hard to access the scrapbook stuff in my closet, and I am not facing the tv when I work out. Maybe we can come up with a solution. I recently just altered my chipboard letter holder and still have ribbon and material from last year to alter more. Painting wont be in budget, but I already told my husband the challenge in 2012 it will all be about painting.

******WAHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!***********
Count me in! I'm so excited!!! We bought a house last year, so I actually have my own space! You guys got me started last year, and I haven't stopped the OCD, ingenious, creative organizing. Since I've been in this mode all year long, I'm not sure how much I will be able to change stuff around, but I'll definitely be here stealing ideas and offering my own. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED!!!!

TJ and Niqui welcome!!! This group usually is fun and it is very nice to have minds to bounce ideas off of. I will try to do a through job informing you all of several ideas of how to organize one type of thing. We are all different and what works for one won't work for the other. I would have to say that in the past years we have probably come up with 3-7 different ideas for each type of items you scrap with. We will cover many things ribbon, adhesives, paper, stamps, punches... and much more.

I was hoping this would come again!!
1) Daisie4100
2) Room (big upgrade from last year!)
3) My desk...it is a dumping ground for everything. I can't seem to put things away once I'm finished with them! I also hate my storage. Everything is open and seems very cluttered to me.
4) Here is my album from last year that I'll use again.... Scraproom Makeover 2011

This sounds like a great idea, I'd love to join!

1) Brittany/californiaphoeni x
2) I have a room now! Though that may change at some point this year.
3) My desk is the worst spot. When I just had a corner in a room, everything was in arm's reach and it was quick to put something back right away. Now my desk just collects everything I've used since the last time I cleaned it. It's driving me nuts!
4) I'll make a folder tomorrow. Saw this on my way to bed!

Welcome back everyone from last year and all those of you who have decided to join in this year !!! I am happy to see such interest. I did get a couple of reminder request to do this again from Mellisa and Mandy. Thanks girls. I really need to dedicate a time to clean up and finally do that mini scraproom in the walk closet off my scraproom for my daughter.

kdinsmore - you are more then welcome to join us. Not only are we organizing but we have a fun project every week.

Oh great!!! Welcome then!!!

Just to let you newbies know these threads get really long so I will have a few posts up on the front page of this thread I will keep updated with the new challenges and what page the old ones are posted on. Each Challenge, Tip or any info I want to make sure you don't miss will be in RED and BOLD So if you don't have time to read all the posts it should be easy to catch up and find the info we are currently working on.

I will always ask if there are any questions and please feel free to share, ask, state, and babble any ideas, questions or jokes. You will find this group is fun and productive at the same time.

MrsAnnieS - Not being here is ok too. What you can do for those 11 days is go back and to the front page post where I will have them all listed for easy reference and after (or during if you have time) February is over you can complete them. Several of us usually are hanging around in here in March anyway... LOL. We would be happy to still help you through them.

I am going to get to know you all a little bit better, figure out what your wants and your needs are for the space. Before we start diving into our scrapbooking mess I would like you to take some time thinking of how you want your scraparea to look and feel.

Take a moment and look through the scraprooms pics on this site or google Scraproom images. See if there is something that resembles your area, ie. corner, desk, room... etc. Also look at the decor and colors. Can you find photos with the color/decor style and space challenges? Save these photos to your computer for your inspiration and we might be doing something with them later.

Pre-Challenge Challenge #1: This week I challenge you to find pictures that work for each of the fallowing.

1) Colors - What colors would you like to incorporate into your space. Even if you cant paint this is important for alteration projects, if you want to paint... now is the time to do so before we start the organization process Feb 1st.

2) Decor Style - What type of decor style (vintage, retro, girlie, contemporary) will you be looking to achieve. WE all create beautiful things when we scrapbook why not make it a beautiful space that will inspire us?

3) Space size - Find a photo that shows the value of the space you have... for example if you are working with a closet... find a photo that has great organizational solutions for that type of space.

4)**** DON'T FORGET **** Before you get to excited to start this cleaning project... take some good/honest before pictures and post them in your album on here so we can see them compared to the afters!

Any questions? I would suggest if you do save them and share the photos you give the rightful owner props in your photo title or description with the link to the original site.

Ugh, I just realized I'm out of town also for a couple of days in February. It could be a problem cause I know I'm going to be bringing tons of pictures back for layouts. And probably some other scraping stuff...I promise I will find a place for them.

I'm off to take photos of both disaster areas! My DH told me after Christmas I could use the kitchen table as my scrappy space because it is warmer upstairs, my laptop (aka radio and dvd player) went kaput and I have nothing to watch/listen to and I have so much to do in my room downstairs, so not only is my room a mess, but so is my table upstairs!

I just printed 3 M's coupons with the express purpose of buying some croppher hopper storage for the bookshelf. I can't afford to put all of the money out at once, so I have to plan ahead. lol. I haven't even tried to figure out how many I will need to fit ALL of my patterned paper. But it will be more than 3, I'm sure. I figure I will need 2 shelves to store everything, based on the sheer amount of space that the paper takes up now. I don't really WANT to destash, but I'm sure I will need to in order to make it all work.

Colors are staying pretty much the same. All pastels for accent colors, as my wall color is a fairly dark red and the trim is white (as well as the curtains). I want to use cherry blossoms as a design element, and to stick to a classic style with a bit of Asian inspiration.

I'll post photos tomorrow sometime. (To offer inspiration, though there are still one or two problems spots, obviously, or I wouldn't be here. It all just *appears* put together because DH doesn't like the dining room to look TOO much like a scrap space).

Well my space hasn't changed much since last year's post.

But here are the colors: Soft Aqua and white, would love pink accents...but most of my wall stuff has yellows and oranges. Not sure how this will look once it is together...lol!

If I could choose a style it would be: shabby chic, but my space is actually looking more retro, so we will leave it at that. Still need to hang things on the wall.

I took pics the other day of my desk before and after I cleaned so I will post those later.

Did I miss anything?

Pre Challenge challenge:

1. Right now my room is mainly white with yellow walls. But I'm slowly incorporating bright pinks, black and white. Eventually painting the walls, probably next year. Although I will probably end up changing my mind at some point in time and leave it as is!

2. I'm looking to do a mix of shabby chic and vintage

3. Space size 8' x 10.5' with a 2' x 5' closet

4. I've got 5 photos uploaded to my album with the before chaos. But here is one of where I actually work at the moment while my room is under 'construction'

Ok... just so you all know that I am not anywhere close to being perfect... LOL!!!!

Here is the walkin Closet off of my scraproom. I wanted it to be a craft area for my daughter but never got it done... instead it has a year's worth of ******** and scrap stuff just piled into it. YIKES!!!! This is my main decor/organizing project this year...

Do I dare share? My small walk in closet By Hanging By A Moment

I love the systems I have set up and until October when my world exploded with activities...

1) Crafted/sewed 5 Halloween costumes and props (Avatar the last Airbender)

2) Made Three large Christmas home decor projects (see gallery)

3) Completed 5 scrapbook pages and 3 cards

4) made birthday invitations for my daughters up and coming birthday party. (of which the box in the bottom right contains all her party decor and birthday goodies for the other kids.

5) a few more other projects I will find remnants of but now I can't see them to remember what they were. LOL

What I was doing that I did not have time to clean this? Well... I was coaching Cheer, being a supportive Soccer mom, Decorating for Christmas (something I don't to lightly) Being on the board of our PTO and helping run the Harvest Festival and the Santa's Workshop, Thanksgiving, Packing for a family of 4 for 3 weeks of vacation and doing it all by myself since the Hubby was away for 7 weeks of training... LOL.. I know excuses!!!! But I have to justify this disaster somehow to myself, right?

Do I dare share? By Hanging By A Moment

I know... YIKES!!!!!!

I promise you the rest of the house does NOT look like this... this is the one room in the far back I just keep the door closed to so no one sees my mess.

PS... this was very hard for me to take an HONEST photo and post it... I really wanted to clean up a bit first.

Oh I love the color combos for everyone's different rooms!!!! Can't wait to see them become even prettier as we organize, label and decorate with hand made items!

My room will not change from last year... as far as the inspiration colors and style... that also will continue on into the closet.

My colors: Butternut, Crimson Red, and Medium to light shade of Delft Blue

View from the door... By Hanging By A Moment

My style: I would have to say Nature... I have flourishing vines up the walls, cardinals (added because they were my Grandfather's favorites and they remind me of him) and antique gold and Bronze accents. I would love to add a Card tree (a bunch of branches in a floor vase with clips all over it to hang cards from) in the corner.

My Space: Well though I need to clean up the room the Closet is going to be the Organizational focus. I need to find some pics for that still.

I think the one thing I love about this thread is we are all able to be honest with each other and let out our "dirty little secrets" and then support each other in getting things back in order. Thanks Grace for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this!

Scraproom Inspiration By KellyCali

1) Colors - I'm still kind of all over the place, but for the most part, I'm still concentrating on pink.

What colors would you like to incorporate into your space - Touches of black. I just recently purchased a black clock, so let's say we'll start from there!

2) Decor Style - Eclectic! A little bit of this & a little bit of that (dolls, dollhouses, wonderland, whimsy, florals, teacups, damask, zebra-print, etc!)

3) Space size - 10x10.

Good Morning Everyone,

This is my first time doing this. I am not a very organized person, so I will need all help I can get.

I have in area in my living room the my husband allowed me to put up a table and it turned into a scraping corner crafting area.

I need to do something to keep it neat and organized:

1) so that I do not waste so much time looking for things and making room. Which takes up time for me to craft.

2) so that my living room does not look like ******** because cause of the messy area.

3) also my crafting starts to move into other areas because I do not have room to craft in my crafting area. Which is causing a mess in the rest of my living room and sometime dining room.

Pre Challenge challenge:
1. Colors-Well, I have to include tan since I can't paint the walls, but I'm leaning towards a blue/black/white (and tan) color scheme. Though that might change since I'm working with a rather blank slate.

2.Decor style- vintage/sabby chic/a bit of randomness thrown in for good measure

3. The 2'x4' desk space with three small drawers, the most awkward bookcase in the world which is 3- 6" deep, 8" high shelves and are 4' long. And I'm giving my self a 2'x2' (by 6' high) space in the closet.

4. Need to charge the camera, but it actually doesn't look too bad at the moment, but that could be because most of my stuff is still in my car from moving.

Hello everyone! This is my first time participating in this challenge, but my room is in desperate need of a makeover. This just happens to be the perfect challenge at the perfect time! Here is my information:

1. Amber/Amberita
2. Room - a finished upstairs bonus room with sharply slanted walls
3. I currently have very little storage space which is a huge problem. I also only have one small surface area on which I can work.
4. 2011 Scraproom Makeover Challenge

Thank you everyone for all of your inspiration and help with this! I look forward to a very productive month!

Cheers,
Amber

#1- I picked up some fabric from HL that all matches. The colors are brown, golden, dark red, blue, orange...cream. I already have most of these colors throughout the room. I think it's a little busy right now, but I love matchy matchy.

#2- I'm not too good with naming styles...I guess I like more of a modern or traditional look. Straight lines, cubes, white and clean looking.

#3- I have a medium sized room, so there are MANY pics with this sized organization to choose from.

#4- I'm inspired by so many people here on this website and in this post. I like the table top space and lights here: http://www.scrapbook.com/gallery/image/scrapro om/301325...

Here is my 2011 album: http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...
There are plenty of messy pics there!!
One thing I really want to work on this year is paper storage. I've tried so many things and I just don't know what works best for my pp storage. Right now, I don't use it often enough to know how my brain works when choosing paper. I need to use it more often since I have way too much of it!

Also, happy 1/11/11 every one!!! (sorry, I'm a little fanatical about numbers)

Problem area
Does anyone else have this problem in their craft room/craft area? I also figured out where part of my ribbon collection disappeared to and found a chewed up paint brush. I think cat proofing is now going to be my biggest challenge.

More photos in my gallery: TinyStitcher Craft area
Mind you I still have a lot of stuff I have yet to unpack in the back of my car.

Ok sorry this might come up at a later point on the challenge, but I've got a list of goals I want to try and accomplish, not all of them are acheiveable this year, but by the end of 2012 maybe? But of course Christmas is coming, ok in about 11 months, but still I might accomplish it all this year with the help of Santa come December!

But I was thinking it might not be a bad idea to get my goals jotted down so others can see, you know keep me honest! This is an evergrowing list, but as of today the goal for my scraproom is:

1. Get my bum to Ikea and get that Second Table
2. Finish the embellishment center with my hubby
3. Get a wall clock
4. Hang my fabric light thingy (yes that is my technical term for it)
5. Find and alter a new bulletin board
6. Move all my quilting related items to one location
7. Organize my bookshelf and eventually replace it with this fabulous cabinet from Ikea!

Amber - Welcome... to help with those angled walls... try googling... attic work spaces or attic craft room images and you might find a way to make use of them or at least beautify them a bit... I am thinking it would be cool to figure out how to display some of your latest layouts.

Niqui - the photos I posted in the first post was in our old house when I first did this challenge. That was the year KellyCali was hosting. It was a corner in our bedroom. I have had a pantry in a kitchen before and also 1/2 of the front room. It is not easy but you have come to the right place for ideas to help.

TinyStitcher - Love the colors and I can't wait to see the pics of your space so we can start helping!

Vicky - Sounds like our colors are about the same. Can't wait to see that fabric!

andik - Welcome!! I checked out your space. Bless your heart!

TIP OF THE DAY!!! (#1) - We are all on a budget these days and don't have a lot of $$$ to spare. Search on Craig's list, free cycle, thrift shops and garage sales for deals you cant pass up. Remember it can always be painted or altered to match your color or room decor.

7. Organize my bookshelf and eventually replace it with this fabulous cabinet from Ikea!

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/product s/00180548

Goals are great... lists of thing you need are too. You did get a jump start on this and that is wonderful!

For the Ikea stuff and other things... watch Craigs list and free cycle... just search Ikea and you will be suppressed what you can find for less.

There are some great ways to achieve that look too, Niqui. Pretty white cubbies, shelves and table will do that with one main color and one or two small accent colors.

Are some of you wondering how to add color to your room, for the first Pre-Challenge, without painting? Check out this scraproom... she did not have the embedding working so here is the link...

One last post for the morning...

Here is a small fun quiz for you to take to try to understand what type of scrapbooker you are. The key to making this challenge successful is to make things work for your scrappy thought process. I made the quiz so it may help you or it may not... it is just derived from my own scrappy experiences.

Since the direct link is not working go to this site http://quizilla.teennick.com/ and search for ...

What type of scrapbooker are you?

Will try to get the prechallenge done this weekend. Won't be doing any decorating whatsoever, as there is a more than decent chance that I will have to move and deal with a smaller space this year. But organizing it all better will be very nice!

I've been "on the fence" about joining this challenge but after seeing the "before" photos of my scrap area I'm convinced this may be my only hope!
1) Pam / lots2scrap
2) 1/2 of my sitting room
3) I need to "see" all of my stuff so end up with clutter everywhere
4) Link http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...

Hi Grace...hello everyone else! I was just thinking how I need to re-organize and whala...I found your challenge AGAIN...(-; Lovely!

I have acquired more stuff over the year and am once again struggling with some storage ideas. My added problem is that I'm now working part-time and have lost alot of my scrappy-time. I will try to be as active as possible...but I will most likely be looking for new ideas from all of you.

1. Siimplicity/Christy

2. I have about 2/3rds of a computer room...trying to figure out how to just take the other 3rd!

3. I struggle most with all those "new" purchases I've made. They end up in a basket and probably don't get used as much since they get buried under the piles of "newer" purchases.

4. Here's my album from last year: http://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=gallerie...

Hey Stephanie! To link photos:

Linking instructions:
1. Go to Gallery
2. On the left side is a link “Share anywhere” Click on that.
3. Box will pop up "Embed this Image" click the circle for IMG code.
4. Right below that right click on the address and copy it.
5. Go to the challenge and paste the link into your reply. If you're not sure if it worked or not you can always 'preview' first.

I find having two windows open works best for me, just in case.

Hope this helps!

I have already completed the pre-challenge! Here are links to my inspiration.

Storage: I am obsessed with mason jars...so they are my main storage.
Storage idea
idea2
Room ideas: I love the turquoise, red, yellow, white combos in these rooms. I think that my style is simple vintage.
Room 1
room 2

I have taken pictures and put them in my album.

Idea 2 gave me a "permission denied" screen.

me too

This is the link....maybe it'll work.

Ok...let's try Link . It's the top pic. If this doesn't work I'm fresh out of ideas

1. Andrea / andik
2. Scraproom 10 by 10. It should be big enough. I also hope to put a sewing machine in the room, as that is my other hobby I would love to work on.
3. Biggest problem: this room ends up tne "throw eveything in here" room when people are coming over to the house.
I posted some current pics of my room!!! Holy Cow...

I will have to get started on those pre-challenges this week end. I am so excited to get started.
