WATCH YOUR ATG TAPE!!!!

I went to M's yesterday and bought a refill of the General Purpose for cardmaking,,,

got it home and there was something wrong with both rolls,,,,the plastic ring in the center popped out way to easily,,,,It appeared to be wound too loosely.

so I took it back today to exchange it,,,,,and every single roll on the shelf was like that,,,

I had to bump up to the more expensive rolls of the acid free tape to find a box that was ok,,,,

BOTH the acid free AND the General Purpose have been affected according to the M's associate I spoke with.

Thanks for the heads up! I've only had mine for a few months and I always seem to have trouble loading it (including just getting it open!) I would have thought that it wasn't working right because of me.

Hmmmm.....

I think I bought a refill a while ago, and just put it away.

I'll have to check it. Was it pretty obvious it was wrong?

not at first glace, although when I looked closer, it did appear a bit "warped",,,,,

but the plastic ring inside pushed out without the least bit of effort,,,,so much so that trying to load the ATG gently pushed it out of the roll of tape.

The last 3 rolls I've used (they were all general purpose and from M's) all had this problem; the center of the full roll pushed up from the middle off of the loading ring. This resulted in alot of waste, as I had to keep reloading. It was also pretty irritating. I just got a 12 pack via Fed Ex, & I'm really hoping they don't share this defect.

That happened to me when I refilled my atg this week - the plastic ring popped all the way out. I just kind of pushed it back in and loaded it and it worked fine. It was only my first time reloading so I didn't know it wasn't supposed to do that, whoops!

I thought about getting an extra box to keep on hand but now I think I might wait til this kink gets worked out. Too expensive and too much trouble going in just for that.

I almost bought some refills at M's yesterday. I'm now glad I didn't. The link you posted, Holly, says for the pink ATG. I feel stupid asking this, but can I use the refills for the pink ATG's from M's in my red ATG?

Yes, as long as they're the same width as your ATG uses (1/4", for example--I know there are also some 1/2" ones out there, too).

Now I'm really wondering, so as soon as I finish the roll I've got loaded, I'm going to refill with the new shipment from framingsupplies to see if they're the same way. I'll post what results are (boxes were ordered on 4/8 & rec'd 4/12, but there's no way to know how long they were in their inventory).

Wow! I can't get over what great prices you have in the US - I was at Michael's in Canada today and it was $9.99 for general purpose and $16 for acid free!

the acid free is that,,,,,,I sometimes use the general purpose though when I have a ton of cards to make, because acid free isn't as important in my card making,,,,,

This happened to me as well!! Plastic center just popped out and now I can't use that roll to load the gun right. It becomes loose and unravels all over the place!! I had another pack of refills that work okay, they are the acid free.
Also, for those of us who have trouble loading our pink ATG's, go onto Youtube and check out helpful videos on how it's done. I watch it and load mine with the video each time I put in a new refill.

Hmmm...thats a good idea. I've only been buying the acid free. Do I now need to get another gun to use with regular tape for my cards?? No no no-no more shopping!

I always get my refills from framingsupplies.com. Even with shipping it is cheaper than M's. And I get the 3M Gold not the the one pictured with the pink ATG. If you have time to wait for your refills it is the way to go in MHO.

I also get my refills from framing supply and have never had a problem. 3M is also very accommodating. When I first got my gun (i have the old school red one~not the cute pink one lol)anyway when I first got it my adhesive constantly ripped. I went through about 3 rolls rolls of adhesive and then a friend suggested I call and complain. My problem ended up being the tension on my gun and not the adhesive. The person I spoke with was very helpful and walked me through setting it up. They also took my name and adress so they could send me some adhesive for my trouble. They ended up seindin gme 6 rolls!

I've tried buying through them, but I can't see how it's cheaper when you add in shipping and handling,,,

with a coupon, I get 2 rolls of the 908 gold for 6 bucks,,,or less. That's 3 bucks per roll. add 7% for tax here in FL and that's 3.21 per roll

at Framing supplies each roll is 3.78 if you buy in bulk quantities,,,PLUS SHIPPING.

I bought my ATG and initial box of refills at the same framing site, but was excited when I realized I could get them cheaper with a coupon at Michaels when the pink gun came out...until almost every trip I made to M's specificially for the refills ended in disappointment because mine was always out. I ordered another box from the framing site this winter because I was coming up on a couple of big crops and was tired of wasting my time and gas (and patience because I usually had my 2yo with me...) on trying to get refills at M's. So on paper it's not cheaper, but in my mind it's well worth worth it. Now if I didn't know what i was doing and ordered the refills from some of these places online that charge anywhere from $6-$18 for ONE roll...then it would not be worth it!

ah, gotcha,,,,,I've had no problems getting the tape at my M's,,,,,and I go there every week anyway,,,so for me, it's cheaper. But I see your point.

I had a different problem with a refill from M's.

It was wound the wrong way on the roll, so when you put it in the gun, the sticky was on the wrong side. Only one of the 2 rolls in the box was defective.

Susan-I had the same exact problem with my refill's purchased a M's!! I bought 3 refill boxes and one of the boxes (both rolls) were backwards. I was so frustrated thinking I was loading my gun wrong. Maybe we should complain to 3M about it and see if they will replace? I just got so mad, I through the rolls in the trash.

sounds like 3M needs a new quality control department.

I checked mine. I have 2 refills. One is wound kind of loose (the roll is more an oval than circle, and you can see between some of the layers). It doesn't seem like the center will pop out though. (crossing my fingers it won't).
The other roll is round and wound tightly.

ODD!

I should probably clarify.

The two I looked at and compared, came from different boxes.

I agree! A lot of defective issues just on this small group of people.

i bought a refill a few weeks ago... i better check it... i bought it before i actually ran out of adhesive... so that way i wouldn't have to be quitting scrapping just to make a run to m's... i have never had the problem of my m's being out of refills, but i haven't been in for a few weeks... i am going on a only buying if i absolutely have to kick again... so i am not going in for paper or anything but adhesive or cricut mats... i'll let you know if my refill is bad though...

I will need some too! I am not the happiest camper with the ATG actually, now might be a good time to try something new for me!?! Thanks for the info!
