The book of me challenge was inspired by an amazing group of ladies who have made me laugh….cry and realize how precious every moment truly is, how different we all are and how precious each of us is…..but most of all how at the end of the day we all just want to be loved and accepted for who we are.

We all get so caught up in life and I believe sometimes lose sight of ourselves. We are daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, significant others, professionals, friends…..we cook, clean, fix scrapped knees and broken hearts, we are taxis, coaches, teachers, vets, mechanics, accountants, counselors, the list is endless and the hats we wear are to many to count. We are everything to everyone and even when we feel like we are drowning in it we persevere because we are strong…sometimes much stronger than we even give ourselves credit for!!. When we have a moment to sit quietly at our desks it is usually to make a card for a friend or scrap a LO of our families & friends. I am challenging each of us to spend some time thinking about ourselves….the things that make us happy, sad, afraid…..the things we can’t wait to brag about and the things we wish would just go away…..remember YOU are wonderful just the way YOU are!!!

There are no real requirements to being a part of this challenge just that you enter this forum with a kind, open, honest, loving heart. That you don’t EVER judge and if you don’t have something nice or encouraging to say….say nothing at all!! This will be an on going challenge because there will always be more to add!!! I would ask that when you begin you set a personal goal of how many LO’s you would like to have finished by the end of the year. (We will start over with new goals in 2012) This is just a goal to help you stay motivated if you don’t meet your goal it’s not a big deal….if you exceed it WOOO HOOO good for you!!! I will post LO ideas/challenges every other week. Participate if you want or not…..You can choose to work on the posted challenges or work on your own ideas….remember this is YOUR book….its all about YOU!!!! Share what you are comfortable sharing….learn…grow and have FUN!!! Please check in once a week so we know you are still an active member.

I am TOTALLY open to ideas for the ideas/challenges and encourage you to share what you have already created or would like to work on.

Hi! I'm glad you added that last part about sharing what we already created. A couple of years ago, two of my friends and I did this kind of thing. Each month, each of us would take turns coming up with next month's assignment. We then had to make three fairly exact pages, for each of our books. We all had the same scrapbook. We called ourselves the LadyBugs and if you haven't guessed, our scrapbooks had a Ladybug on the cover.

Since my scrappy mojo hasn't been the greatest as I've been too busy with swaps, etc, I would like to share some of my pages over the next couple of weeks/month, if that's ok?

I have no number goal for LOs I want to complete b/c I am on my 4th "Book of Me" Album, so I just do BOM Los when I have a topic/event/feeling that I want to scrap about. BOM LOs are my FAVORITE to do b/c it is like a type of therapy for me..I am going to look through my BOM's and share a few pages I really like. But I will share the link to my BOM album if anyone feels like perusing through tons of BOM LOs they are welcome to!

My goal is going to be to continue to work on my "my life: documented" journal/scrapbook. I really want to keep up with documenting my everyday life with words, pictures, memorabilia, embellies, & whatever else I want to use. I just will need encouragement to keep at it when it is no longer novel (new). I have a MILLION and ONE unfinished projects b/c in my ADD driven state, I start a great project--then I get bored & leave it for something more stimulating....Vicious cycle!!

OK, I am ADD now b/c my meds are wearing off so I should probably stop rambling & I need to head to bed soon anyway. Good Night!!! Sweet Dreams!!!

I believe this would be great therapy for me. I will start with 5+ beginning for /September. It was a festival season and I was born nine months later as a 9th month baby. My name does have an interesting story as to how I became Suzette, well to me anyway.

Thank you for the invite...
I have an ongoing BOM that I don't get the chance to work on very often.
My goal will be small...I will try to get 4 LO's done by the end of the year...
I love the Name origin idea...
I have one (2 pager) in my gallery about the year I was born and what was going on in the world...it was alot of fun to research all of it.

Hello Ladies.

I'm in. I have been scrapping off and on since 2005. I made it a goal to scrap more for my New Years Resolution.

I've mostly been working on my wedding, the Girl Scout book, and my farm book (that I turned the album into a baby book for my SIL). So I need to get a new book to put the pages into.

I would love to start a book about me. So my goal will be to do 2 pages a month for the rest of the year towards this book.

I would like to join! I think this would help keep me scrapping while I'm in school this semester. I tend to get bogged down with homework and I don't allow enough personal time so by the end of the semester I'm fried. Maybe this will help!

Because of school I'm going to keep my goal a little low. I'm going to say 5 by the end of the year. (Hopefully I'll do more!)

Oh this is wonderful Cassondra. I keep meaning to do pages for a BOM ...have done some randomly but not many.
Even bought a new album this summer for my book (I attached a sample but mine is the bright turquoise which is totally my color).
So I think I will challenge myself to 5.

too funny...I just looked up the meaning of my name on the site Cassondra linked us to.

The meaning of Mary is Rebelliousness...every one who knows me will agree that is totally appropriate!

This is so AWESOME to see so many interested.

Snowflake- so glad you are joining-

I've seen several comments about this being therapy. Well- usually as women- we do NOT spend enough time on just us. We are always fussing and worrying about everyone else. Without reflection and self expression on a personal level- we get depressed & feel trodden on and tired. I am so excited to see the excitement about this.

Cassondra- that is a great starting point- are names. That takes us to the beginning for those of us who weren't sure where to jump in. I was having so many ideas rattle around in my brain that I didn't know where to land. This is great. Now to research...

I'm going to set a goal for 8 pages. I've decided to do an 8x8. I want to give this to my daughter when she gets older. I was 35 when I got pregnant with her so our environments are so different from each others. Like tonight, I had to downgrade my cable package and she's bumming. And we actually sat down together and watched some news, just like when I grew up!!

Oh, I already knew what my name means... Hebrew Princess!!!

This is the first time i'm doing one too. Funnily enough I started a few months ago around the same time I gave up paper scrapping and any ambitions of being on a DT. But my whole philosophy around scrapping changed as well. I want my future grandchildren to know who we are not just what we did.

Welcome Kelly glad you joined us!!!
I have no idea what a froup loop is???? thats a new one to me!!!!

Sally believe it or not I googled religious name meanings and it was on one of those sites!! I think I will just go with the original meaning I found....helper of men.....some how that doesn't sound quite so scandalous!!!

I like the idea of asking your mom how they named you....My dad wanted the name XAnne for a girls name.....pretty sure I would have gotten a pole at some point for a birthday gift with that kind of a name and Buckingham Christopher if I was a boy....thank GOD I wasn't a boy and that mom chose my name!! I would have been Bucky Bennett....are you kidding me???? why do parents do such awful things to their children!!!!! I would have spent all of my school years getting my butt kicked for having such a ridiculous name!!! I just made a note to self to thank my mom for choosing my name when I talk to her!!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful day!!!

Cassondra- that is toooo funny. I'm glad you're a girl & that your mom named you too. (That sounds really funny )

I was told that if I had been a boy I would have been Junior. At the time I think I was 9 & I thought "Junior" was an awful name. Little did I know that it meant Charles Phillip Kelch Jr. But they named me Charlene after my dad and Phillis for a middle name- thankfully NOT the feminine of Phillip which is Phillipa. However since Phyllis Diller was popular at the time- I did get a lot of ribbing about my middle name. Did you know she had been a Playboy Centerfold? When I told kids that who tried to tease me- they didn't know what to say and would walk off. Who got the last laugh there huh?

Froup Loop=inside joke from the Scrap Pack Challenge (a challenge that no longer happens, but it was when everyone who signed up was sent the same pack of items that you had to use on your LO & you could only add ink, paper, & photos to create your LO, then the LOs were submitted anonymously and judged & a prize was awarded--super fun challenge, but it is TONS of work to host). So when the challenge was ending, a bunch of us regulars got together & formed a very informal critique group so we could stay in touch So it is the name of a group of ladies on sb.com who keep in touch from the Scrap Pack challenge.

My name means "longed for" in French. I think my Mom just thought it was a pretty name. I'll have to ask her. I know my middle name (Lee) came about because those are her favorite jeans xD. She was 17 when she had me so I guess that kind of makes sense since all 17 yr old girls think about is boys and clothes lol.

Wow- very interesting why everyone is named what they were named. There is so much more behind the name than what some site says your name means. I think the story is all about what our parents were thinking at the time. Maybe we should also do a page why we chose our children's names to give to them- so they know & in case we aren't here to ask. Like if I didn't already know- I may not ever since my mom has advanced Alzheimer's now.

I found out thru looking at several sites that Charlene also came from Old German and French as well as the regularly posted English. From the French it means Small Beauty. I prefer the Old German & English= manly, free man- in other words WOMAN as the feminine version of Charles.

Here is a site I found for getting the meaning, usage, etc of a name that is easy to use without a bunch of fluff:

http://www.babynamespedia.com/

Gives the pronunciation, meaning, origin & alternate spellings and similar names. Seems more in tune to research I did years ago.

My name, Megan, means pearl. It comes from Welsh (ultimately Greek) and is a form of Margaret. It hit its highest popularity in 1985 at the #10 girls name. (I was born in 1986.)

My mom liked to watch movies and would look at the credits for names she liked when she was preggo. She saw "Meg Ryan" and liked the name Meg which led to me being named Megan. My middle name, Ann, is my Mother and Aunt's middle name, so I got it b/c it was my mom's.

So my full name is Kimberly Clark - seriously believe that my parent named me because they turned over a Kleenex box - lol.... no it was because my uncle was dating a Kimberly at the time and my mom liked the sound

Yeah, so the storm is staying east of us...all the worry & preparing for nothing so far, but a band of rain that came through early last night. I hope it stays this way!!!

DesiLee, where are you in MD, I come through MD every few months on my way to NJ (up I-95). If you are off 95, do you know of any good scrappy stores?

I looked up the meaning of my names.

Margarette - Latin
meaning - a pearl

DaNel - English
meaning - God is my Judge

There was a bunch more about character and feelings and things that was really accurate. I also know how I got my name.

My mom named me Margarette after her. She was born Margaret Flynn and legally changed her name to Margarette Lynn in her 20's.

DaNel came from my Dad's cousin's wife Nelda. She wanted to name a child DaNel. Now she named her own daughter Tiffiany. But she did name (last I was told) 3 other people's daughters DaNel. The N is capital for the first letter of her name.

Now to rewrite this and type it out onto a journeling block to start my first page.

Would you suggest a baby photo (I don't have many of those) or an adult photo? I do have some old albums that I salvaged from the old house so I will be redoing those photos that deal about me. I admit I don't have many photos of myself growing up and the ones I do have I don't remember much about what was going on at the time.

Megan - the only one I know of is off of 75 and it would probably be waaaay out of your way. I'm in Frederick so I'm not too close to 95. I know there's another one somewhere because the one I go to has a passport thing going with it. I'll try to find out where it is for you.

Megan Ann glad the storm passed you without to much trouble!! stay dry....rainy days are perfect for scrapping!!!

Desi - hope the storm passes you soon....stay safe!!!

DaNel - I started my name LO last night and was trying to decide the same thing....baby picture or adult picture????? I think I am going to go with baby because I want this page to be the first in my book....kind of like a when it started point of reference.....but I think any way you do it is fine....really what ever you feel like speaks to who and what you are....just have fun with it....you could always do both....an adult and a baby pic!!!

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!!!

I'm in Manassas and love the one in Gettysburg. I go to a retreat near there. There is one in Fredericksburg VA that's pretty good too.

I just finished my Birth announcement page and my baptism page. I think those are the fastest two pages I've ever done, considering I just started them about 30 min ago. And the one page is all scraps except for a flower I just got in a swap!

I love my BOM of me...fits me pretty well.

~ meaning ~
Archer

~ motivation ~
Endeavours to succeed

~ character ~
Is refined and dignified

~ feelings ~
A person who is loving and caring

~ intelligence ~
Has an inventive mind

~ spiritual ~
Has purity of spirit

~ nature ~
Is always jovial

~ inherent ~
A non-judgmental person

Megan Ann...I am so glad that you did not get to you...I feel so bad for all those folks that are struggling tonight. My prayers are with them. I remember how desperate we felt when the wildfires hit us and my parents had to evacuate their home up north, along with so many parents of the friends I grew up with. I am just so happy you are safe.

Sally...You are GOOOOOOD!!!! You go girl. You created beautiful pages. I can tell you are proud of your name. I was just saying to a friend, that this part of the challenge will be hard for me as I am not communicating with my biological parents, I have no idea who chose my name or how they came to name me. You are so blessed to know.

Cassondra...It will be hard for me also, as I have no pictures of when I was a baby. As I have shared those times in my life are as though I never existed, probably why I take so many pictures of my kids and my grandkids. They are precious memories to cherish not to leave behind when you walk away.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day...and that your Sunday will be blessed.

Happy Scrapping

I didn't realize a BOM could be historical, I have always seen them as contemporary, layouts about favorite coffee or why you collect _____. That is so cool. I guess I do have a BOM started as I've been scrapping and journaling childhood pics.

Dang, I just finished a layout the other day. The journaling is written as an adult and how I remember the events and feelings from the picture. I'll post it later!

Wow, this isn't going to be as difficult as I first thought! I am totally excited now!!!!

Morning Ladies

WOW Sally you are rockin' your BOM nice job!!! feels good to work on something just for you huh?? That ribbon flower is from Imelda I used mine on a card.....soooo cute!! I will try this month to make sure names are on everything so we know who made what!!!

Bon I love the meaning of your name.....seems to fit quite well!!!

Jen you are so funny!!! Nothing here is ever hard....we just roll with it!!!! Your BOM can have anything in it YOU choose.....anything thats a part of YOU!!! can't wait to see the LO's you already have created!!

Remember Ladies this BOM is about YOU!!! If you don't have baby pictures because you just don't have them, because they were lost along the way or because you don't have contact with someone who might have them......thats all a part of who you are......don't fret because there isn't a photo to commemorate every step.....just because the photos aren't there doesn't mean the memories are gone.....Journal....use generic photos of things that enhance the memory of that time.....use all those creative juices I know you have to create a LO that will be so beautiful it won't need a photo!!! It's all about YOU.....so if when your LO is done you look at it and it makes YOU happy thats all that matters!!! Tell your story any way you want!!!

Happy Sunday!!!!

I would love to give it a go, it is essential that my kids know every single thing about me! Thanks so much for the challenge. I hate pictures of myself so that will be a challenge within itself! I say my goal is 6 by the end of the year!

Just checking in.....
I will get caught up on gallery love later this week.
I've had a houseful of guests...2 more days.
Then I can get to this.
I have researched my name.

Rhonda
My dad named me this, because he loved the actress Rhonda Fleming, she stared in a bunch of old westerns...She really was so beautiful, and I downloaded a bunch of pics of her to my puter to use on this LO.
It's Welch in origin, and we are Welch, tho my mother was Cherokee.
It means "Powerful Seas", which fits me perfectly...LOL
I hated my name my whole life, but I'm 51 now, and pretty used to it by now...tho I still don't really like it.

Thanks for the compliments above.

Bon, I'm like Rhonda, I never liked my name and to this day I could care less about it, but it was my given name and I was named after my Dad's cousin. Our family is that way, most everyone has a first or middle name from a relative.

Jen, I hate talking about myself. I started out with my baby pictures because Cassondra gave us something to get started on, our names. I already knew the meaning and why I was named Sally. I'm the only one of 7 kids that didn't have a photo album put together so all my pictures are loose. Opening up in the various forums on sb.com and seeing other people share their life, has brought back many memories for me. I've let the bad ones cloud the good ones which really outweigh the bad ones.

I was bad and ordered a paper pack. DCWV Hippy Chic. They are sooo me! I started writing a little background why they are me, just to practice and the next thing I knew, I wrote something about my Uncle who's 10 years older than me. So, guess what my next page is going to be about?

Plus, I decided I'm not going to do mine BOM in chronological order per se. As I find a picture that sparks a memory, that's going to be my next page! And I'm not doing an 8x8 as I have plenty to do an 12x12. If I have mini memories, and small photos, I may break one page down into 4 6x6's!

hey all,
I started a book like this a while ago that I just found when cleaning out my scrap supplies - they are really old school - no journaling, no embellishemnts, no cricut so if you guys are ok with it... i will use that book and add the missing items

I don't think there are any rules. Except, that it's about you and only you can interpret that!

I wish I could find my old photo albums, but the ones I put together in highschool all are missing... (thanks to certain family members)

I have my main page done and I will hopefully photo it and get it up by the end of the week. I have several I need to take photos of to be honest.

What suggestions do you have to take a good layout photo. I've tried getting directly above it (inside and out) then cropping the photo to take out the background but the layout never seems to be square.

A couple of people commented on my lo about how lucky I was still to have some originals from the hospital. Somehow I have to go back and add something I dropped and forgot about... the little florist envelope addressed to "Mommy" from my two older sisters! And the only reason I'm so "lucky" to have all this is because I took it back in the 70's when my mom was getting sick and my sister started hoarding all the pictures. I wish I knew who had my grandmother's scrap book. She used to save news paper clippings and had a couple pictures of me when I made it in the local paper. (once for Marching band, another time playing basketball at the rec park recently built when I was in hs) One of the reasons this BOM is important to me is because my mother passed away after a long illness when I was 15. Her mother had passed away before I was born, so no one to fill in on all those missing pieces.

I scrap mostly my daughter and she gets so mad at me. I tell her I'm not putting it together for her, they're my memories that I want to share with her kids and that's why when there are challenges, I scrap the doubles, because she WILL give me more than one grandbaby! (she'll only be 15 in Oct) and each kid will get a scrap book of their mom.

Sometimes I feel bad for my daughter. She never met her father and she had been trying to search for her half brother and sister since she was around 10. She never told me, so last year, luckily I knew her sister's and the mom's name, so we searched on line for the mom. Her dad had lived in WA and his ex wife had moved to Portland, OR. We found her on Facebook. My daughter wrote to her and that afternoon, she wrote back and told her she would hear from her sister, Kay that evening. Sure enough and she wrote back and they keep in touch through FB. Turns out her sister didn't know anything about her other than having the pictures I had sent to her father up until she was 4. That's when he got remarried and moved and I never sent him anything. I guess after that, the new wife was jealous of the daughter and ex and out of spite, would send pictures of my daughter to her, she gave them to her daughter and she kept them all these years! Every now and then I get peak on my daughter's facebook and I see her sister giving her advice or they talk like sisters. I got tears in my eyes, I can't type any more and I'm going to be late to my friends house.. bye!

I had to block my oldest sister. She's such an *&% She would be talking garbage on her wall about all the nieces and nephews. She is on a mental health disability and uses as an excuse and crutch for everything. Her life is FB. I shouldn't talk too badly.. sb.com lately is my addiction!!
