Heyyyyy everybody!

I was just wondering if anybody else was going to play along with The 12 Tags Of Christmas. I've been thinking about doing- I love tags, I love Christmas, and I love Tim Holtz, so I thought it would be fun.

I *know* that the point of it isn't to TOTALLY REPLICATE his tag, but I still wanted the 'Festive Greenery' Decorative Strip die- so I just got back from running out to an LSS on my lunch break to pick one up. A co-worker asked me to grab one for her, so I got to feel like a real big spender. Which (even tho she was paying me for it) kept me from spending even more money. Ummm. I don't know what I'm talkin about anymore.

So anybody else playing along? I can't wait to get out of here and get to my table!

I'm definitely watching for some inspiration. I have to make some tags for presents (DH and I sort of compete with our tags for each other) so that may happen this weekend!

Ohh, is that Festive Greenery strip like the Autumn Gatherings one, that has all the leaves and acorns and twigs and things separate for you to arrange as you see fit! I really want that one!

(And from Sizzix's website I see that it is, but not really up my alley with its shapes. Which is okay!)

Though really they could have fit it all onto a Bigz die instead. No, I don't know what the benefit would be especially as I have more room in my decorative strips case than I do in my Bigz cases.

I agree, I would much rather it all be on a Bigz. I likes them more.

I guess the benefit would be ability to cut through more awesome stuff due to the steel rule dies. Not to say that I don't have a ton of Sizzlit-style dies - I do, tons, eight and a half storage cases full (mostly alphabets, which I love!), plus the strips, and they really are easier to transport due to size and weight - but I like knowing I can cut thick stuff, and the thick dies just seem sturdier. A large Originals die would also be acceptable, of course. :P

I find myself wanting the pinecone die.

I love that die! My DH got it for me along with several others of Tims that just came out and it is so much fun to play with-tons to do!

But yup I follow along with his tags every year, I try to do something similar using his techniques and then put them all in a sort of mini album for each year.

I don't always duplicate the tags, but some of them are just to darned fabulous not to!

Intriguing. I don't need one more project though, but I may check this out.

I plan on giving them a try. Will have to go check it out after I'm done here.

I checked it out. OMG those Christmas distress ink colors are amazing. I just ordered them. Also, the festive greenery sizzlets (thanks, Kory). I swore I was done buying. Ok, this is for realz, this time. Not one more thing! Actually, to offset my indiscretion... I am going to return two things that I didn't open to M's. Ha ha M's... That's what you get for... (I'm not going to say it) ;0

I've been working on the first tag tonight. Everything is on my table drying. Can't wait to get it all assembled. Love Tim, absolutely love him. Sadly I don't have the festive greenery die, but it's certainly on my wish list.

1. Barbara. Are you a compulsive returner? (Is that even a word?)

2. My LSS just posted a thingy on facebook inviting folks to come in and recreate Mr. Holtz's tag for 8 bucks. Um, no thanks. I'll recreate it in my own home for free. Weirdos.

I've completed Day 1 Tag. I love the inspiration and techniques I learn from the 12 Tags of Christmas.

Haven't been able to check out the tags yet, but that Festive Greenery die is killer.... dumb question, not familiar with those dies at all, are they compatible with Quickutz machines?

The first two tags are fabulous. I have learned some new techniques just looking at TH's tutorial.

I'm following along for inspiration and new techniques! Both are usually bountiful. Love his 12 Tags of Christmas. Happy Holidays All!

I had LOTS of fun, making my tag last night.

I'm having issues with my 'decorative strip' die, tho- I SWEAR I made the right 'sandwich,' but still it felt wayyyy too tight, and I'm surprised the thing didn't explode when I forced it thru the BigKick. Is there a trick to using those?!

I've never had a problem with the strip dies. What kind of paper were you using?

A sheet of "Color Core."

But it felt tight without the DIE between the two cutting pads and the 'extended platform-whatever.' AND I swear, I was using the actual Sizzix products- nothing I'd found at the Dollar Tree and adapted/turned into a platform!

Hmm, that's really odd .... if you were closer we could have a play date with your Big guy and my Big guy and see if we could figure it out ... Is this the first strip you've used?

Well, yeah- I have the 'Chip Block' strip die, but I've only used it once, and it was before I had the 'extended cutting platform.' I just did it on the short platform that came with the machine, and ran it halfway thru, then turned it around and ran the other side... and it seemed to be fine.

So, yesterday, in my TimHoltzTagFrenzy, I bought the Festive Greenery die, then ran to Michael's with my fitty off coupons to get the extended platform (and dragging a friend behind me to use my other coupon, to get the extended cutting pads)- and yeah...so it just isn't right. I don't know. I'll look into it more when I get home...

I swear, the edges of my greenery strip looked like they were being crushed.

In that case I'd contact Sizzix, maybe the platform is the wrong size.

BTW, if you have to make two passes to run something through (e.g. some Quickutz border dies are wider than the Sizzix extended thingies) - I've found it better to run both passes through in the same direction - i.e., don't turn the die around. Move the paper and the die forward on the cutting platform and plates and put it back through the machine in the same direction. Otherwise I've found that the paper can crimp unattractively at the middle point where the two passes meet. Not sure if this makes any sense at all, but I'm not sure how else to explain it

I haven't got around to doing a tag yet today- and why? Cuz someone stole my truck, from out in front of my house, sometime after I arrived home! And I don't live in a bad neighborhood, so it's not something I count on happening! AAAAAND this is the second time it has been stolen! (last time it was stolen downtown, outside the theatre I was working a show in).

However....the police found it in record time. Outside a Motel6. So maybe I can wind down and relax and make a tag, now....

So how's everyone else's night?

WOW! Crazy, so glad they found it for you!

I really want to do a few of these, a trip to my LSS in in order.

Love the #3 tag!

Yikes! Glad you got it back so soon.

I have Xmas projects that I NEED to work on (dollhouse stuff for my niece and a scrapbook for MIL), but I'm hoping I have time for some tags, too, Tim's been inspiring!

I'm checking out the tags on his blog, but I have never actually tried out any of his techniques yet. A little embarrassing considering he's my scrappy idol!

I LOVE watching him make them.
I LOVE the finished product.
But, I am WAY too lazy to spend THAT much time on a tag!

OMGosh.....I thought I was the only one who felt this way!! I will admit, though, I have used his techniques to inspire me, and I've come up with my own easier-to-make versions.

Weird, I like doing the tags because I can do them so fast!
Mine are not as freakin advanced, tho (i have a few in my gallery), but I have gitten very quick at doing a fast background with the 'wrinkle free' technique- its my favorite thing to do- but I also work fast. That BigKick gets to spinnin'.

Kory, the ones I do are fast, too. I love working with the inks and inkpads because they lend themselves to imperfection, which I love, and which I find fast to do. But to do an exact copy from his tutorial....well, that's when my laziness kicks in

Looked in your gallery-- LOVE them!
How do you do the basic background (the part that is pale blue)? Is that embossed then inked? When I looked at TH's tutorial, I didn't see how he got it raised.

Thank you!

I used the 'color core' paper. (on Mr. Holtz's first tag, he used Kraft Core, which I THOUGHT I was buying at M's, but no, I got COLOR core cuz I don't take time to READ but anyways, lol)- so after running it thru the BigKick with the XMas embossing folder, you sand on the raised image, that's what made it a diff. Color than the background. I'm about to start makin' stuff, if I can stop being lazy and watching his stupid Ancient Aliens show.
