I've fallen in love with Washi tapes and was thrilled to find my LSS has started carrying the Trendy Tapes brand. Even more so when I discovered last night that they are selling them for $1.99 per roll, and if I order direct from Queen & Co. they are $2.99 per roll. Did I stock up? Silly question...

I reeeally need to come to the States just for scrap shopping! Half of the stuff that you guys talk about on this site, I have absolutely no idea what it is and I just try and imagine it until somehow I find out!

I am crazy for Washi tape too!!! And I really can't find ANY!!

I'm glad that it's going mainstream, tho- I'd love to be able to find random cool tapes when I'm out and about-

some of the Hambly ones are too cool!

I think I'm gonna order some tonight!

I have to go back and look but I found a site that carries the washi tape in lots of styles and fairly reasonable. You can make your own pack of rolls too. I ordered some for each of my grandaughters at Christmas time and they were pretty happy with them.

Aha!! I have access to something Kory doesn't. I knew there had to be something We have a huge Japantown area here in San Francisco, and lots of stores with imports, stationery, kids school supplies, and of course the 100-yen stores. And lots of washi tape I haven't really gotten into using it yet, though, what are you guys doing with it?

haha... I like having pretty things on my shelves to look at too!

As for what to do with it, I was planning (cause I have not found any locally) on using it like i use my ribbon across my layouts... kinda boring, but i am sure i will come up with ways by the time i actually get some.

You're so right. It seems to take a long time for stock to come to Canada. Fortunately I get to the States about twice a year and do I stock up!

Well, one idea - if you're a card maker, you can put together the quickest last-minute card ever and it looks great. Just put 3-4 coordinating strips of washi tape vertically along one side (i.e., dots, plaids, stripes, but all in the same color family) and add a label with a stamped sentiment. Combining the various patterns makes it look like you really took a lot of time with it when you really only spent 5 minutes!

Great idea, D! Would be nice on an LO as well. I don't use ribbon very much at all, but the tape is compelling in the same way I think ribbon is for a lot of other people. Hmmm. Maybe I need to go shopping again

OMG! A product I haven't heard about? How is this possible? Now I have to expand my mission to find some of this. Kory, why haven't you told me about this before? I know why, you don't want me to buy out any stock before you can get to it

Okay, I had to Google it too, and now I'm in love!! Seriously, I have got to have some of this. I need it!!
But I now know why we can't find any, some person on Etsy has about a gazillion rolls of it for sale (way expensive) so it appears this person bought up every roll in about a 4 jillion square mile area.

Some of what is called "paper tape" requires you to pull off a backing. The Trendy Tapes or what's called "washi tape" is very thin and doesn't require you to pull off a backing. I used washi tape on this layout:

The ones I have then are not Washi tape, I have to pull off the backing. They do look cool.

LMAO!!

Everyone - come on out to SF and shop with me! We'll buy up all the washi tape we can find. And then we'll move on the fun kiddy decorative tapes and wacky stickers, and then all the beautiful Japanese papers. And then the 100-yen stores.

The closest LSS is a once-or-twice-a-year trip for me, M's and J's suck, basically, and there's no HL or Archivers ... but I've got all the fancy import boutique shopping you could want!

I don't understand how San Francisco (I'm assuming that's what SF stands for) cannot have a lss closer to you. I'm so sorry. But if you can get the Washi tape, you have something we don't.

Ausra, I just don't think an LSS could survive the rents and all here, they'd have to charge everything at full retail and I doubt they'd get enough business. There is a really fantastic one about an hour or so away from me, but it's also over a bridge (with bridge traffic which is often terrible on the weekends, and a toll). I go for their annual 20% off sale, occasionally if we're over there already I'll stop in. Frankly, most of the time it's just cheaper and less time-consuming to order online.

I'm like Ausra, I never would've thought SF didn't have like 20 LSS! I live in a small town and we've had one or two for years. HL and JA hurt the small shops, but they are great for some things.

does HL or JA sell the tapes? or anything similar? I need to go look for some!

Okay, I was in a shop yesterday talking with the owner about Washi tape and paper tape, and she said the only bad thing about them was that they have a tendency to peel up at the edges, like the adhesive is not quite strong enough. Has anybody used them enough to know if this is a concern? I think I really want some but not if I have to add adhesive or risk a peel, ya know?

Well, true Washi tape IS removable, so the glue on it isn't real sticky. I haven't had a bit of trouble wth it peeling off he layouts I've done, however, but then I keep my layouts in page protectors. I've used it on cards and haven't had any problems with it there either. I make cards up in advance and nothing has peeled for me. If you're concerned, I suppose you could always go over the edges with a bone folder just to make sure it was stuck down good.

I was at target and found they had smash book tape so I pick up the one color they had. I still need to get the blue one. This afternoon I am going to hit the craft stores and maybe they have some other brands of tape since I was in town a month ago... A girl can hope!
