I just got a Grand Calibur and I only have 4 sets of dies so far but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I'm having a hard time figuring out which next because there are so many great ones but I know I want the Ironworks. I also think I will get the bitsy flowers.

I have the Donna Salazar Sprightly Sprockets and they are so awesome!

Two new ones the Floral Ovals and one of the Tuck dies...I want that.

Nesties is short for "nestabilities" made by spellbinders. But they also make "shapeabilities",,,,simil ar, but they don't "nest" one inside the other.

Here's nesties and shapeabilities,,,,,,

and yes, you can use the regular nesties and shapeabilities in the big red,,with the proper plates etc, but not the grands

My favorite is the Grand 11!!! I love it I have made several albums with it. I use cereal boxes cut them with the largest size then go down one size and cut out my inside pages.

The grands???

I use them for shaped cards, mostly,,,,,and I only have one of the grands,,,,,Labels 23. I don't plan on MANY of those, they are VERY pricey,,,,I think i want two more, labels 4 and labels 11 Grands.

no grands here ... I don't have the machine for them (and I don't have the room to put the machine if I got one)

faves right now are:

rose creations
sprightly sprockets
spiral blossoms (1)
fleur de lis squares

Love my grand labels 23! Use them for matting backrounds for pics. Very cool.
I need to get the smaller ones though for my new card making venture......
Holly check out J's online for grands. They are always on sale.

Hi Holly

Thank you for starting a thread to make me want more nesties

I only have Labels 1, 8 and pinking circles. I really want the sprockets set and quite a few more. I haven't made a list yet, but I am going to.

A little OT, but could someone tell me why I need/should get the Grand Calibur when I have a Cricut E and a Cuttlebug? Do the shapeabilities fit in the CB, or are they too big? Some VERY nice shapes out there....

you only need the GC if you want to cut ALL of the Grands, Lucinda. Your CB will cut all but the largest two, but they are SO expensive that if you spend 40 or 50 bucks for a set, YOU WILL WANT TO CUT ALL OF THEM!

BUT, if you have no plans to buy the Grand dies,,,,,you don't need the grand calibur,,,,,,your shapeabilities will fit in your cb

Happy birthday, Peg!!!!!

No, the GC doesn't cut a 12x12,,,,it does cut a full 8.5x11 without trimming though,,,,

I think ONLY the pro and maybe the Creatopia (not sure on that one, but I am almost positive) cuts that large.

although, I am really impressed with how well the GC cuts (I rarely have to run anything through twice) and the embossing is superior, I think,,,,

BUT, you don't need it,,,,,,,unless you want to use the grands that is.

I seem to actually use Labels Eight the most, followed closely by Rose Creations. Oh, and Foliage.

The ones I like to look at the most are the Fleur De Lis Motifs, they are gorgeous.

My wish list includes the Picot Edge circles, Moroccan Motifs and possibly the Bitty Blossoms.

I've never had to run anything through twice to cut with my Cuttlebug, though I can't speak to the embossing issue (since I only have the CB and have nothing to compare it to)

I love love LOVE those Moroccan motifs,,,,,,

The Picot Edge is my ALL TIME favorite! Some of the newer ones are nice too, but my Picot Edge is my go to shape now! I also like the Rose Creation too.

The Creatopia does cut 12". However, with the Shapez component, it does not cut the largest Nestie....

at 500 bucks,,,,,they can keep it. I bought the Grand Calibur for 139.00 MINUS 40% which brought it to roughly 80 bucks I believe,,,,might have been 89, can't remember. But it was certainly less than 500 bucks!

I think one reason I have not bitten the bullet and bought one is because it seems whatever you get, you need a different machine for other dies and folders. I want just one that takes everything that I can use for years that is sturdy enought that I won't break it and it has to take 12 x 12 pages becuase I don't do cards - just scrapbook pages.

WHen I see people here with 2 or 3 machines that scares me!

I just found 2 places where they are $311.00 so that is a lot better than $500.00.

Will see if I can find info about whether it is electric or handle.

Okay - definitely not electric. But, reviews say it cuts like butter.

What is confusing me is the description talked about all the shims and solo platform and multiple platforms and things yoyu have to buy. I am afraid I won't know what to buy or how to use them. And if I use them incorrectly, I've heard it can break the machines.

I don't mind the $311 price, I just don't know what to do with it when I get it. Whatever I get, if I get one, it has to do it all. The most imporant thing to me is 12 x 12 scrapbook pages.

I personally wish I had got the Pro but by the time I seriously thought about it I already had the Big Shot and the expression and just couldn't see paying for one so I waited till I found the grand calibur fairly reasonable and just bought it.

Now you ladies have enabled and I want the grand 23 You are alll enablers hehehehehehehe

No,,,,they are 1/4 inch larger each than the smaller ones,,,,,

for example,,if the regular largest nestie is 4 inches,,,,,,the SMALLEST Grand is 4 1/4 inch.

and each one up is 1/4 inch larger.

I think my Labels 23 grands is about 7 or 8 inches long??? that's the largest. Of course, each set will vary a bit,,,,,but you get the idea.

Ok, I have the Sizzix Big Shot. It will not cut the largest nesties but that doesn't matter to me. I'm not sure I understand the logic behind a hand crank machine that will fit a 12x12 page....
Most of the dies are 6" or less (which fit my BS) and the biggest ones are only about 7 or 8" so what would you cut on a 12x12 background?
I cut mostly paper layers, embellishments etc...
I'm just trying to understand why you would NEED to cut a 12x12 piece of paper.....what exactly are you cutting and using it for??
Thanks Alison

I'm sorry i must be too tired to think right now but, Henri....how do you emboss a 12x12 sheet of paper nicely? All my embossing folders only fit a small card, edge embossing dies are only about 5" long and when I try to emboss a bigger sheet you can actually see the edges of the embossing....if that makes any sense. I still don't get how you can do anything on a 12x12.....

I'm trying not to look at those gorgeous nesties suggested by Comma Holly aka The Enabler, since I'm planning to get the new GC soon. I just bought the Grand Calibur in Feburary after about 3 months of research. I fell in love with the Spellbinder dies, so this machine fits with what I wanted to use it for. So far I have 11 dies and 1 embossing folder. My favorite and most used are the Tags #1, #2 and #3 and the Bella Rose.

With this machine I started making cards. I have already made my Mother's Day and Father's Day cards and I love how they turned out.

Below are several of the ones I have already bought. Going through the store, I saw an embossing floder with music sheet and it's going in my wish list. So cute.

The Spellbinders system is just starting to gell in my brain. All the names they have for the different lines....coupled with the fact that you can use other systems dies with the Grand Calibur is mind boggling.

On top of that, different websites are inconsistant about what the call the dies and they don't always call the Grand dies Grand, so if they don't have the size in inches I go crazy. You can tell from the price of those.

Apparently, A Muse Studio is a home based party type of thing. I found the dies by going to the A Muse Studio website, and clicking on the shop online, and from there tools, and then dies.

Look Holly, Judy is way smarter than we are!

Thank you, Judy, I finally found them. None were listed on the consultant site I found, so I clicked on the catalog pdf.

The dies start on page 144.

I have a Big Kick so when I discovered that I could use Nesties dies in it, I thought the only dies I would use would be the circles, squares, ovals and rectangles. I never dreamed that I would buy any others.

Hah! I now have several different labels dies (I don't remember the #'s), daisy dies, book plate dies, tab dies, Christmas ornament dies - and without my collection at hand, I'm not sure what all I'm missing but I know there are others. Seriously, I LOVE these dies.

Sometimes I think I could spend all day, every day in my craft room just making stuff...

Oh, well, dream on...

OK.....newbie here, at least to this site. I have been lurking and just joined. Holly, you have done me in. I am seriously thinking of getting the GC, just so I can attempt to do some of the things that Holly does. Yes, I am now going to be a nestie/spellbinder druggie.....and Holly is my dealer.

That's what happened to me.

Check at the card gallery also. I drooled over so many projects done with the Spellbinder dies. It took me 3 months to get my GC and several dies and I LOVE them. Don't know why I didn't buy before now.

I have a Cuttlebug, Slice, and Cricut E... I don't think I could possibly need any more machines. Oh... I have the Presto Punch, too, but found it pretty disgusting when you had to pay an additional $30 to plug it in... otherwise you need 8 batteries. I don't think I will ever recover the cost of that machine. I do NOT NOT recommend it to anyone. It's very limited as to what it can do... this is my only negative experience with Spellbinders stuff.

I don't want to even think about the things I will have to do to afford this new obsession....sigh. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket, problem is I am not lucky. Maybe Brad and Angelina can adopt me!

And DaNel! She's thinking about the pro also and my thoughts are if she gets one - maybe I should too! But Melissa - you and Holly made me get interested in them!

I'm joining the Enabling Party -

I bought the Grand Calibur awhile ago and love my decision. I didn't have any MANUAL die cutters yet, and wanted to mainly use Nesties and embossing folders. I have no interest in the thick steel dies. Since I mostly scrapbook and rarely make cards, I liked the ability to use bigger dies too (the Grand nesties). I researched for quite awhile. And then I found it -

I bought mine on HSN. They had the GC machine WITH Labels One AND Grand Labels One - for $150, which is usually the price of the machine alone, so it was like I was paying half for the machine and half for the first dies. Plus they have easy pay plans, so I could spread the cost out over my weeks of "mad money".

Oh and here's a new one that hasn't been mentioned yet - I can also use Fiskars texture plates, emboss as good as a folder.

So I have a number of versatile, basic shape nesties on my wishlist. Plus the new DOUBLE SIDED EMBOSSING FOLDERS that spellbinders is releasing right now! Yay!

It would be a close thing with grunge board it might and might not. I don't know if I would want to try it might ruin your spellbinders. Maybe try a small piece of scrap and try running it through before a full size piece.
