How is everyone doing on their cards for this week? I made the bookmark, but haven't had a chance to make a card to go with it yet. Lol, I have been watching lots of youtube videos and making several different mini albums! I am addicted to mini albums! I have been finding some really cute designs and have been making one of each of the ones that I really like (just putting them together, not decorating them at all yet). I have made 4 of them so far in the last 4 days! Now I just need to get some pretty paper on them and figure out what to do with them!
I have a challenge for this week's card.... and someone else can do the challenge for the next week!
This week's challenge, 9/16-9-23, is to make a card using FOIL! This can be foil tape, colorful foil paper, or regular kitchen foil (which is what I will be using). Also, make your card using non-traditional Christmas colors! So, use foil and don't use red and green.
And a side note... how many Christmas cards does everyone have made so far? How many do you NEED to make for this year? And the all-important question.... is this card challenge helping at all?
I am stumped on the book mark one. Or I was until a friend brought a book by for me to read and I thought "Brandy would love that cards" do I am making it for her this weekend.
This challenge is definately helping. I finished about 15 cards and I need about 70 if I do home made cards for all my previous clients and I probably will.
I like the foil idea especially since I saw a you tube where someone embossed a coke can. Hubby said we can get flat foil at lowes. And I may get myself some Tim Hoots alcohol winks for my b-day.
Cinj, I'm glad you've been helped by this challenge! Hopefully you can get all 70 done before Christmas with us. I love the foil also... I too saw a video on youtube, but they used regular kitchen foil so I am wanting to try that. I got some metallic rub-ons (which is like a really soft creamy paint like stuff that you rub on using your finger) and it works on metals as well as paper and stuff. It could be fun to try with the foil since I've only used it once!
Can't wait to see what you come up with for the book mark and the foil!
Hello Ladies I am so very, very sorry I have totally flaked on this challenge Between being super sick and kids and work etc you all know where I am coming from I have not had time to do any christmas cards I have the list of all the challenges thus far and will do my best to catch up soon. I go on a retreat at the end of October and I know I can catch up at least by the end of that retreat if that is ok with you all??? If not I totally understand.
In the mean time the cards are all beautiful!!
great job everyone.
Hey Bonnie! I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick! I know that totally takes it out of you! This challenge is come-and-go-as-you-please so don't worry about playing catch-up (Unless you want to, then please, feel free!).... We enjoy having everyone on here, whether they participate in every challenge or not!
Can't wait to see some of your cards, when life slows down a little!
I have been trying to upload pictures of my foil cards as well as my bookmark card....ALL DAY yesterday! And our internet has not been cooperating! It would load about half to 3/4 of the file, then just stop. Over and OVER again!
Lol, I will try again today... but just know that I have made the cards and will upload them as soon as the technology cooperates!
Okay, so I haven't been able to get the card for last week finished yet. I hope to get that done today or tomorrow at the latest.
As for the new challenge this week.... I'm out of ideas for a challenge, so I think I will let someone else come up with one. Since there aren't many ladies on right now maybe we will just make last weeks's challenge a 2 week challenge and we will do a new challenge next Sunday! Sound good?
I know, I'm sorry I haven't been able to participate like I thought I would. Had a vacation in there and then went to visit my son, plus getting caught up on work, etc. I will be submitting some cards soon!
I haven't looked at the challenges I missed, but here's a random Christmas card until I do.
Well ladies this will be the first challenge that I have tried. Eventhough I think I am a better scrapbooker, I love making Christmas cards. this vertual swap sounds like a great way to learn how to navigate posting pictures and get a head start on making cards.
I uploaded some Christmas cards today to the gallery. I haven't figured out how to attach them to this thread yet. Tried last night and it didn't work. I named the cards after the thread: Virtual Christmas Cards. I did three to catch up with past challenges. A bookmark card, one with foil, and a rather simple plain card. Hope you all enjoy.

Wow, I am so excited I figured this out. Maybe next time I can remember how I finally got it to work. I am enjoying this swap. I haven't sent Christmas cards in the last couple of year. But I definitely will send some this year. I am able to alot more crafting since my husband and I took over the care of my dad. He suffered a severe struck a year ago and I provide his health care and therapy at our home. So, I have much more time to scrap than I used to and it gives us both something to do. He helps sometimes. It is good therapy for us both. lol
scrapmasterlb.... there was a post on the first page of this forum that explains how to post them on here. Basically, when you upload them to the gallery, make sure you check the box under the picture that says 'allow public embedding'. Then after they are uploaded you can go to the picture in the gallery and click on the left side where it says link/embed. Then I choose the option that says img-code and I choose the biggest size. Then copy it and paste it over here.
Glad you were able to join us! Thanks for playing catch up too! You have some great cards!
Well its beginning to look alot like Christmas at my work station. I made four more cards: one using Christmas paper, one using all scraps, one for the photo challenge, (the first one), and one using a die cut and stamp. Thanks for th enice comments Kelli. I had fun going back through the posts and seeing all the great cards. All the ladies rock... Have a great weekend everyone..Lisa
I will be posting pictures of my card for the photo inspiration challenge in the morning. My husband took the car out to the movies and my card (along with some scraping supplies) was in the trunk! So I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to upload pics of it. Do you guys like the photo inspiration challenges or the random challenges better?
I am trying to come up with a theme for the challenge for this week... any suggestions?
I like the random challenges better. It gives me a specific thing to add to the card. The photo ones are nice but I am not one to look at something and thing of something else. If that makes any sense.
How about challenges like using a color, or using a technique.
I really liked the foil one and will probobly be doing another card in other colors because I like it so much.
I love all the challenges. The photo challenges have been more difficult. At first I was trying to recreate the photo and then saw a card on here that just took one element from the photo and made a card. (Stamp$Joy's card) That made it alot easier. I wouldn't be very good at coming up with challenges, so I am open to whatever. What about using a christimas song as inspiration or repeating an element on a card 3x. I am just loving all the ideas. I uploaded my card this morning to the gallery and will try to get it on here as well. Lisa
Wow, you guys! I am loving all the cards! tynmicsmom, that is perfectly fine to switch it up like that! It turned out cute!
I like the photo inspirations because they make me think... and the two that I've done are some of my favorite cards. However, they also take a LOT longer to make and usually aren't great for reproducing in any number. That being said, I really like the challenges that just require a specific element or something because those still look great, are usually fast and easy, and they can usually be reproduced in larger quantities.
So, I liked the idea of using something in 3's on a card, so let's do that this week. Then next week we are going to do a gift-card.... not a giftcard card, but a card with a small gift in it. I would give something like this to my neighbors..... It will be a card that you would put a hot chocolate packet in, or a singles coffee packet, or tea bag, etc. (I am telling you all this a week early so you can pick up something like that if you don't have any at the house right now).
So, the challenge for this week's card is to use something in 3's on the card... so three flowers, three stamps, three squares, etc. You get the picture.
Next week's challenge will be to make a card with a 'gift' in it, such as a hot chocolate packet, coffee single, tea bag, etc. (You could also make some homemade hot chocolate and put it in a small baggie inside the card, then put the recipe in the card also so they can make their own!)
The challenge for the next week (I am on a roll!) will be to make a card that will hold a gift card or cash, you choose.
Sounds good to me. Keep them coming. I still have to do the bookmark one. I have gone back and forth on this one. I was going to do one with a ribbon weighted on both end for the marker but then I was thinking books come in differnt sizes so I was going to make a book marker as part of the card like the chimney to a ginger bread house, then I saw the book hooks but I think that is cheating. lol So I am not sure how I want to make it.
Ok I am working on trying to catch up...Here are a few I did for the 2nd Photo Inspiration Challenge. The picture reminded me of Dr Suess' whoville with the whole town around the Christmas tree singing. So this is my "winter Fairy" from Whimsey Stamps as Cindy Lou Who from the movie.
I think I linked it right...We'll see. I shouldn't be this computer illiterate.
Posted my cards today while my computer was working. Tater, I feel the same way about the computer. lol Your fairy cards are absolutely to cute. I am so awed by all the cards. I loved the black and white one by tynnicmom(?) My cards this week were very simple and a little bit country. But they were very fun.
So, just to remind everyone... this week our challenge is to make a card with a 'gift' in it, such as a hot chocolate packet, coffee single, tea bag, etc. (You could also make some homemade hot chocolate and put it in a small baggie or tin, then put the recipe in the card also so they can make their own!) Just some ideas.... can't wait to see what you creative ladies come up with!
Well I can't get my image to post. But I uploaded the card with gift for challenge in my gallery. I don't think anyone is slacking. Kelli, I think it was a pretty cool idea for virtual swap and I like that it has a "no pressure" feel. Hope everyone is having as much fun as I am making different cards. lol

Okay, I've found a challenge for next week..... assuming everyone had an embossing folder of some sort and a machine to use it? Does anyone not have access to some sort of embossing machine? I suppose hand embossing may work as well, but I don't really know.
That looks like a cool challenge. I am having trouble with my computer and liking projects. I am sure it is me. I think that it has something to do with our virus protection. at least I can upload them to the gallery. lol Hope every one has a good week. It went from the upper 80's to the 30's is one day. Got love the midwest. Lisa
Kelli, sending you a hug for our latest challenge. I would have never thought to try something like that embedding all the elements at once. I uploaded my card to the gallery. Still having problems with my computer and linking. Happy fall to everyone, Lisa.
Okay, I have made my cards and haven't put them up yet! I have been making several cards and going crazy helping my husband grade papers! I am also going to be doing a craft fair on Dec. 8th and I have GOT to get some more cards and other crafts made for that! I may not be doing much for this challenge until that is over. Please feel free to post challenges anyone! I will join in when I can!
OY! I knew I was forgetting something! I have the embossed card challenge done as well! I embossed lots of little scraps together and them cut around each one to make a pieced together card.... if that makes any sense! It took forever, but I love how it turned out! Embedded Embossing Christmas Card Challenge By Kj.etienne
Sorry ladies, I haven't made any cards in a while, but I've made lots of other goodies for the craft fair so I will post pics of those soon! I will get back to the card making soon, I promise! I am having Thanksgiving with my family tomorrow (technically today because as I look at my clock, it is 12:37 am!) and then Thursday I will be with my husbands family for Thanksgiving... so I probably won't be posting pictures until Friday or Saturday.
Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy your time with family and friends!
I think it has been busy for everybody. I made a few cards and uploaded them to the gallery before Thanksgiving. I haven't posted them to the forum. My husband cleaned up my computer. but I haven't tried posting them to the forum since his clean-up. lol I am hosting a make and take day with all of my dad's grandkids. (2-16 years old). they are going to make some tags. So I am working on that to come up with ideas that the different ages can do. I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving.
Hey, Kelli I hope you have a good turn out this weekend. I would love to see some pictures of your goodies for the fair. I think it is basically just you and me now. I have made a couple of Christmas cards and some tags. There are in the gallery. I am chicken to try posting them in here. I hate it when it doesn't work and I am following the directions. check out my gallery and look at the card I made with my nephew. It is so manly.
Well the craft fair went great! I sold some stuff, mostly my hard lotion bars.... but no cards! most people have sent theirs out already I guess. I did get lots of compliments on the cards though. I listed some of my lotion bars on facebook (a local selling group) and I've sold 19 since yesterday!!! I can't believe how popular they are! I am going to have to quit making cards and start a lotion business I think! Merry Christmas Everyone!
I hope to post pictures of my sale soon! Please bear with me!
Well, I can't believe that you didn't sell any cards. But it sounds like the lotion bars were a hit. Maybe you can find a local antique place, or even resale shop and see if they will let you sell your bars. I have seen stuff like that at the local gift stores here. My friends tell me I should sell my scrapbooks at a craft fairs. I think it is awesome that you were brave enough to do a craft fair.
Thank you so much! I can't believe I haven't been on here in so long! I just got out of the habit of checking the page! I have been selling the lotion bars on facebook on a local selling page (like craigslist on facebook) and they are a hit! I am so excited! I've just found an online store called CraftCafe.co and it seems to be much better than the other sites. They do a monthly or yearly subscription, but they don't charge any fees for selling stuff! I think it will work out great! I am working on getting some stuff listed on there right now actually. I am hoping that some of my cards will sell on there.
How was everyone's Christmas? Did you have enough cards to send out? Did you actually send them out? Lol, I ask because I HAVEN'T sent mine out yet! Not because the cards aren't done, but because I am waiting on updated family pictures. Lame excuse huh? Lol. If I can't get the pictures soon I will just have to send them out later... but that means I will have to start another card inspiration group for random "thinking of you" cards that I can send pictures out in! Oh, speaking of which.... stamps are supposed to be going up again, so go buy some forever stamps while you can!
Well, I really enjoyed the virtual swap. I loved the challenges and loved that it was "no hassle" So I would participate. lol It is a good way to keep connected and have support to make cards and such. We could do any type of card, you know Valentines day is coming soon. I joined a birthday card swap. I am really excited about it. I just finished a 8x8 scrapbook for my son's girlfriend. She just graduated from college. I am going to have to check out your lotion bars. Good luck with CraftCafe. Hope you had a wonderful holiday and best wishes for the new year. Lisa
