I purchased a Cuttlebug a few months ago, along with a few templates/cartriges/dies/ whatever you call them. But as of yet I have not even taken it out of the box. I know they are compatible with other machines dies(?), based on other posts in the forum, but not sure which, definitively. I'd love to start using it, or take it back to M's. Any input? Did I make a mistake purchasing, or make a mistake not using it yet? I guess I'd really like a cricut, but this was so much cheaper...

Chris

I got my Cuttlebug a long time ago and still use it for embossing. I dont use it for die cutting as much, but I do occasionally and you can use it with lots of companies dies (Sizzix, Spellbinders etc).

Take it out the box RIGHT NOW.

Play with it, love it.

I have a Big Shot, but it's basically the same thing. I do admit to being a teeny bit apprehensive when I first got it, now I sleep with it under my pillow.

Oh, and get some Spellbinders. They go together like peas and carrots.

I have a BigShot and a Gazelle, I find them both immensely useful because they do different things.

I'm determined to get my stamps organized today and not spend lots of time on the forum...but I HAD to see what you're all up to while I'm gone.

A few days ago I posted a bunch of stuff about the cuttlebug. My post also included the creatopia, but skip over the top parts and go down to the 'bug stuff.

I didn't do much with my 'bug at first, but my daughter comes over most Thursday nights to scrap with me and she started using it. I figured if she could use my bug, so could I...and it's great! I've got a cricut expression + cameo, but the bug is so nice for quick, smaller stuff.

I just got my embossing pad in today's ups delivery from sb. I'm anxious to play with it with my nesties, but not now...stamps are awaiting me...~Judy

Nope.. you did NOT make a mistake. It is a wonderful kind of bug. Check out some ideas on youtube. After a few times, you will be so thankful that you bought it.

I have the big shot and I've been thinking on getting rid of it to buy the cuttlebug... but I don't know if it's such a good idea... I mostly cut spellbinder dies.

Tahi, the Big Shot and the Cuttlebug are almost exactly the same, with the same functionality. The biggest difference is that the 'Bug folds up and is probably easier to transport if you go to crops regularly. So, I say keep your Big Shot and spend your money on more Nesties!

The bug can take the spellbinder dies, except for the biggies. If space is a factor, the bug is about the size of a lunchbox or small purse.~Judy

WOWIE ZOWIE!!! What a great response!! Ok, I never thought EVERYONE would have a positive reaction to the Cuttlebug!!! And HOLY HANNAH HOLLY!! I didn't know there were so many options in spellbinders! So I guess its a keeper, I'll play this week and report back!

One more question, how do I know which dies WON'T work with the CB, are the dimensions or something on the package?

Thanks all! Plus, I finally figured out how to put pics on my computer, therefore the gallery is not too far behind. Look for me soon! Chris

The only dies that won't, as far as I know, are the very biggest dies in certain sets of the Grand Nesties. But you can use anything else, and there are TONS of choices! Get it out of the box NOW and go play! Yes, that's an order, young lady

The bug is 6 inches wide. You'll have a tough time getting an 8" die through it Other than the width limitation, any die should work.

Extension pads are available that are 12 or 13 inches long...I'd have to expend energy to reach down and measure mine and it's over 100° where I'm sitting and I have no energy left to expend.

The extension pads can be purchased separately if you want to do long borders or something like that. I just looked online and the extension pads are 6"x13".~Judy

As far as the dies...all the ones I've seen list the sizes of the dies, so you'll know whether they're under 6" wide.~Judy

Yup, another Cuttlebug fan here. I have a Silhouette too but I can honestly say my bug gets used on practically every project.

STOP IT HOLLY! JUST STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!!

I've had my Big Shot about 3 months and I've already lost track of the Nesties I've bought. The one with the stars came in the mail this week.

Only teasing Holly, but I have been doing my part to keep Spellbinders in business. And I love every one of them!

I should really work for spellbinders on commission

seriously, though, there's a ton of other brand dies that are just as good,,,,,,,memory box, cottage cutz, LIfestyle Crafts,Die-Namics,,,,

it's mind boggling!!

In the last three years, there is not a single page I've made without using my cuttlebug in some way. I love it. In my old house (we recently moved), I painted my scrap room to match my cuttlebug, I loved it that much!

But if you think it's cheap in the long run, it's not. I originally bought it, thinking it was a cheaper alternative than jumping in feet first with an electronic machine. But man, do those dies and spellbinders and embossing folders and font collections add up! I recently bit the bullet and bought the extended plates as well so I could use the long tim holtz dies. There's nothing I haven't found a way to cut with it yet with a little trial and error And it's all so pretty you'll want ALL of it.

So - inquiring minds want to know - have you opened the box yet and fallen in love???

I LOVE me Cuttlebug and use it more than the Cricut to be honest. Its just easier to get out n use. Basically any diecutting template can be used with the right plates. I use Sissix, Lifestyle Crafts, Magnolia, Spellbinders ect. I cant imagine me life without a Cuttlebug...

I have seen how some are starting to use their Cuttlebugs to smash bottle caps to add as embellishments too. Just another idea to add to the list.

I'm a little late to the thread but just want to say that I was very similar. I just HAD to have the Cuttlebug so I bought a starting kit with some embossing folders. I was all excited when I got it and then it just sat in a box for a while.

I made a few LOs and liked the embossing. Then it sat again.

Then I started making more cards and it got used more.

THEN there were a couple of users on here that were talking about the Nesties (you know who you are) and well, 15-20 sets of nesties and 50 cards later, I use my bug all of the time.

I'm sure once I get back into making LOs, I'll be using it more on those too, just haven't made a LO in a while.

what I want to know Holly is how much does Spellbinders pay you under the table to push those Nesties?

and do they pay you in Nesties? cause if they do, I'd like a piece of that action

The old Sizzix machine (aka Big Red) is PERFECT for that!! And for smashing lots of other little things, too! I have a Big Shot now, but I'll never get rid of Big Red just for that reason
