Taking sign ups until October 2nd - midnight CST

This challenge is set up to encourage you to use your Cricut and to show us what wonderful images are available on the Cricut cartridges. You may also use SCAL with your Cricut to cut images.

Please sign up for the challenge. Because we have so many projects each month I need to limit the participation to about 20-25.
All cricut projects are welcome to be posted here by participants for sharing ..... but 3 (three) projects are required to "complete" the challenge.

October twist: Pumpkin, Star or Moon. Include ONE of these twists on your project and be eligible for a RAK-but you MUST complete the 1st challenge to be eligible to win the twist RAK.

All projects MUST include something cut with your cricut .....please remember to let us know what cart you used!

At the end of the month (Oct 31) there will be a random drawing from all participants who have completed the challenge (3 projects) and 3 projects and a twist for an RAK from me

Remember to save this thread to your favorites for easy access. And please check in at least once a week so I know you are still playing.

I finished this at the end of last month but didn't get it uploaded for the challenge. I used Stand and Salute for the title. It was a title that was connected but i didn't like how it fit on the page so I cut it apart and laid it out to fit around the pic. I also cut the title out 5 times and layered them up to stand out more like chipboard. It's hard to tell here but looks much more dimensional IRL.

I am so excited. I looked on the cricut website and you can RENT halloween cartridges for 60 days for $19.99!!! There are over 600 designs. Only catch is that you have to do it through their create room. I figure all those cartridges would cost between $150 - $400.

I hope I am not using bad etiquette by mentioning this. I have searched sb.com and not found anything similar. If this is in bad taste, I will certainly remove. Just let me know.

seems like good business for Cricut to do that....I just don't want to go digi. I fear they will stop supporting my Gypsy.

Good Morning all!!
Off to the doc today and then to price some granite for my kitchen and then hoping to scrap!

Kelly, I don't think there is a problem in what you shared. We share deals all the time, the site just doesn't like links to other sites or stores.
Sounds like a good deal and I didn't know that PC did that. Sounds like you'll be a cuttin' fool for 60 days to get your 20 bucks worth!!

Oh, and I an ACU!

I tried to use CCR yesterday to do my LO and for some reason it would'nt work. I had the cuts all set on my mat, clicked the cut button and the little clock/timer thingy would flash up there like it was getting ready and then would just go away. I have never had that happen?? Just wondered if it had to do with the internet and then got me thinking how it wouldn't be a good idea for PC to only offer CCR as an option, like Di said, if they were to go only digital. Bad idea PC!

Was wondering if you were meaning George Basic shapes for the hexies, cause I don't see it on there? I had always wondered if I had a cart that had hexies on it, but didn't think I did.
Is there more than 1 basic shapes cart?

I had a big scare last nite with my gypsy! I was all ready to cut and when I plugged the gypsy into my cricut I got a message on the gypsy that said I wasn't connected to my cricut. I tried unplugging it several times and even shut it down but still kept getting the same message. I was in a panic....I don't think I can scrap without my gypsy! Then I glanced at my cricut....it wasn't turned on! Talk about feeling stupid! lol

I don't think you have to worry. I was snooping around their site when I bought it. It seems like they've have this craft room for awhile. You can link the cartridges you own if you like to work on the computer then cut. They also offer a couple freebies, I think monthly. I'm like you, I would never want to go fully digi.

Nope, not George! That's what I thought too, but there's only the octagon shape there. I was in CCR when I found that out, so I searched "hexagon" and only found two. One is on My Quiet Book, and the other is on the Cricut Font and Basic Shapes cart that I understand is included with new Cricuts. I bought a reconditioned one because I didn't know if I'd use it that much, so I didn't get that cart. Had to buy it digi on CCR, ugh!

I can't see them phasing out the Gypsy anytime soon, since according to them cartridges linked to a Gypsy can't be linked to CCR. You can do it the other way around (CCR first then Gypsy) though.

They are suppose to be working on getting us up and running with the Gypsy and CCR ( with carts already linked to a G) and they actually had the update out for a very brief time, but then found there were some issues and pulled it. I didn't get in on it, that's what I'm holding out for, I DO NOT like having to insert all the different carts. I do like the program, although I feel it runs a bit slow, but won't use it regularly till it recognizes my Gypsy.

Thanks Anna, I have that cart too!
See, this is another reason why this is a great thread!

I cut hexies today because I am bound and determined to do a LO using them and just couldn't seem to get a flow going with them?? I think I've only done 1 LO with hexies and it was a lift.
It seemed I either had too many or not enough! I kept putting them on and then taking them off. But I do have something started!

Since you mentioned trying to place them, I have to tell you the rest of the story about finding hexagons! I found what I thought were hexies on the George cart and happily cut all the pieces I needed, but when I tried to place them I couldn't get them to fit no matter what I did! I hate to admit how long I struggled with those little pieces before it dawned on me that they had eight sides, LOL!!

Anyone know what to do with a pile of leftover octagons???!!!

Good morning!

Trish, it took me many attempts to get a grouping that I liked. And even then it was nothing spectactular by any means. I arranged and rearranged so many times and finally I said enough is enough. It is what it is. I didn't have a pattern and wasn't referring to a lift since it was for my DT submission.

Carol, oh I so relate to comment about the octagons. I did the exact same thing!

And I do have my first project ready. Just waiting for some sunshine to get a decent photo.
And my second project is in the works.

Have a great day ladies!

I've looked on there, why can't I find things??!!!
oh well, me and hexies are now officially over each other! I LOVE the look of them, but struggle greatly with their placement.
My next post will show my issues!

So, I started out placing the hexies ans just didn't know when/where to stop. If I stopped part way, it looked imcomplete, If I kept going, it looked over done. So, I now know to only do hexies from a lift where someone else has already thought out the placement. I can't believe such a simple LO took so long.
Anyway, thanks for listening and TFL!!

I love it! Your hexies are perfect! I think you just have to let them "be" as opposed to choreographing them.

Completely usless memory that just came out of nowhere: I had a show goat several years ago that no one could show but me. Everyone thought they knew how she should stand and tried to set her up to their specs. You guessed it, she rebelled every time and went dead last in her class! I took grand champion several times with her because I just let her assume her own position, as it were! I just let her "be!" (Sorry, LOL!)

Trish, I have to agree with you. Next time I do hexies, it will by with a sketch or a lift. I spent way too much time trying to position them.
I've been seeing layouts with diamonds on them too. I really like their look too. Anybody done a layout with them?

I have never done it and was wondering #1 Money wise is it a good investment (is it worth the money I have to spend) 2. Is it very complicated???

Here is my first LO for the month:

Things I Love By MrsCDJ

All of the flowers were cut on the Cricut using SCAL files. The roses are from a "rolled rose" SVG I found a long time ago, and now I'm not entirely certain where, and the other flowers are just flowers layered together!

Talk about feeling stupid! lol

I feel the same way about scrapping without my Gypsy...sends me into panic mode. I wrote an email to Provocraft last week just to let them know how much I need/depend on mine and that I hope they would not stop supporting the units. I go an email back telling me they have no plans to stop supporting the Gypsy...... I know 'business' and that only holds for 'now'...what about in a year????

Yes, I use vinyl for the stencil. You can find it on ebay fairly cheap -look for sign vinyl instead of cricut vinyl, it's MUCH cheaper!
I think it is a good investment- the vinyl isn't bad and will last a long time as will the etching cream. When you use the etching cream (I used a coupon at M's), you can scrap the excess off and put it back in the jar and re-use it so it lasts a long time. I have used it to do 9x13 baking dishes (there is a great pictue on my blog, which I am ashamed to admit I haven't put anything on for at least a year :o) Makes great wedding/shower gifts! I have also done mirrors and candy jars. I coach voleyball and like to give the girls something at the end of the season so I etch their name and year and a volleyball.
It is really easy and looks great! Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks Di,
But it was a struggle, many times on and off with those darn things and in the end, it wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted it to be more sporadic, nonchalant?
I have one in my gallery that I am happy with, but it was a lift!!

Trish, I was surprised at how easy those diamonds came together! After reading everyones problems with the hexagons, I thought for sure I'd have the same trouble. That pic was just screaming for more diamonds so I just had to try it.

Thank you By Tinadn

I made 20 of these. Used George to cut out the squares and Doodlecharms for the pumpkins.

I lost my place so will find it and catch up on love later.
