Hi,
I don't know if it is too late to join in on this challenge. And I'm not sure if I have to use the sketches provided. If so, I'll just leave this for sharing. I am working on my dd's preschool album. She attends a Christian school, so some of the los are faith-based. TFL!

4/12 - Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

I went to the Christian bookstore last night & took advantage of one of their current springtime sales.

I picked up 5 books, including Jesus Calling by Sarah Young...btw - it's really good! But, the one I can't seem to put down is Becoming More Than A Good Bible Study Girl by Lysa TerKeurst, the author of Crave, which is another book I also have.

One of my 'faithbooking goals' is to not only read more, but to finish reading my books all the way through. I'm really bad about starting books, but not finishing them. Right now my goal is 5-7 books for the year...But ideally, I'd like to be completely 1 book a month, so more like 10-12.

Yea- I found you

I just finished reading Capture His Heart by Lysa TerKeurst. Awesome book. Now I'm doing a study/book reading along with Renee Swope on her site- A Confident Heart. Another awesome book- her web site is: http://reneeswope.com/ if you're interested. She & Lysa are both parts of Proverbs 31 Ministries - they are a group of women reaching out to women- they have a great team & daily devotionals, bible studies, etc- http://www.proverbs31.org/

I read on the way to work as I ride a commuter van. That gives me quality reading time- especially in the morning. Gotta love my Kindle for that- makes it easy to carry & pull out when opportunity presents itself.

My life these past 2 weeks has been utter turmoil- a nightmare roller coaster if you will complete with loops & twists. Basically my Army career in the NG is over medically. I am 11 months shy of reaching 15 years & thus qualify for a retirement when I turn 60 (because of the medical discharge). I've been mislead, told I can't, told I can, researched regs, told I can't again... My request is to be allowed to stay a member for 11 more months & complete correspondence courses & thus next March have the points and the time to be awarded 15 years service & thus eligible to draw retirement when I turn 60. I know other people have done this very thing- just not officially. I'm trying to do it right & am told I can't? Something is wrong with this picture.

I'm so frustrated with this- its hard to find the peace I know is there- I just want to sit in a corner & cry. That won't solve anything other than make my eyes red & my sinuses run tho. So peace I seek. I believe there are no such things as coincidence - you posting that for the theme is exactly what I needed. Thank you

Char!! I'm so sorry you are going through all this!! I can so relate!! My DH is was injured in Iraq almost 5 years ago and we are STILL waiting for his Medical retirement. As of now, he has in 22 years. He is 100% permently disabled through the VA. In July of last year, they (army ng) told us that they had LOST all of his paper work and the guy acted surprised that he was injured in Iraq....because he'd never seen paperwork on it!! REALLY????????????????? Ugh!! It has been a complete nightmare!! So if you ever need a listening ear, PM me. I'll listen as best I can!!

Melody - I have done the personnel side of medical for the TNARNG for about 10 years now & I have run across my share of these injured soldiers whose paperwork gets lost or read wrong or the delay causes them to lose a car, their house, etc. We have to pay incapacitation pay to those who are on NG status- which is a month late- no retirement points are earned even tho they were hurt on military status. Or- when this all started- we'd have a soldier hurt on the move to the mobilization station and they Army would send them home as if they went there that way & we'd have to fight for their benefits. I should be an emotional wreck for all I've seen happen to them. I've worked my but off to help those that have crossed my path or been sent my way. Struggle & frustration at every turn.

I have yet to file with the VA myself but need to do that soon. I have a contact at AMVETS that I will use for that. You have to have a mediator when dealing with the VA or they will conveniently lose your stuff & ignore you.

Hi!! Hope everyone is had a nice week and hope you have a great weekend!!

Char: I get so angry with how the soldiers are being treated!! I knew when they said they had lost all dh's paper work, that they were lying...and in Feb, we found that they were!! The Col that was reviewing the case could not believe it has taken so long to get this through and that they had lied so straight up about it!! Thanks to him, we are hopefully, back on track!! I think the real issue was that the unit is getting ready to deploy again and thier numbers are really low and a lot of guys on medical from the last deployment, that they were trying to boost the numbers that could re-deploy!! One of my dh's guy got stuck in that. He was 70% with the va, but the military *lost* his stuff and re-evaluated his as 20% and he has his order to deploy!! We're trying to help him, but are at our wits end!! Even the VA has tried. It's so screwed up!!!!!!!! I wish it work out for you, darlin!! 15 years is a long to time to serve then be pushed out!! Even if the military is known for doing it, it doesn't make it right!! AND it still makes my blood boil!!

Have fun in FL!! I would think this a good time to go!! Not too hot, not too cold!!

Oh and one more VERY important thing:

GOD IS SOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! He has taken such good care of us through this all!! He has provided for us and helped things work out when we didn't think that it could!! Yes, I'm human and get frustrated with how it goes sometimes, but the truth is, GOD has had his hand in all of this. We've been able to help a few other soldiers get help and how can that ever be a bad thing??!! It's a God thing!! So don't stop praying!! God is in control!! Even if it doesn't seem like it sometimes!! If this doesn't work out, it's because he something better in place for you!!!!! *hugs*

Wow, I had no idea what y'all have been up against from our own government who you willingly served for so long. I will have to put y'all & it into more of my prayers for sure.

On a positive note, I just returned home from an incredibly uplifting time in Orlando, FL @TheGospelCoalition's National Conference. The theme this year was Jesus in the Gospel of Luke-one of the 4 gospels I had yet to read all the way through, and still have a few chapters to re-visit. It was such an honor to have this text preached to me by so many amazing men of God-John Piper, Don Carson, Colin Smith, Crawford Loritts, Kevin DeYoung, Gary Millar, & Tim Keller led up this effort and I was blessed so much by each of them! There were so many others I was unable to hear from but I'm hoping they will either put links to them up on their site or make them into pod casts I can listen to at a later date.
The most inspiring workshop I went to was given by Elyse Fitzpatrick on the Incarnation of Jesus & how we are one with Him. Very uplifting & more eye-opening than I expected. She has a book coming out later this year in Oct. on the same topic that I am now going to be excited to dive into when it comes out, lol. Oh and can I tell you how AMAZING the bookstore was that they set up 4 the conference. My hubby & I were thinking we probably wouldn't pick out more than 2 or 3 new books to bring home, but they dropped the prices on just about every title that was there so insanely cheap that we couldn't even find a better price on Amazon on any of the books we bought! Needless to say one more shelf on our bookcase is now completely filled w/christian literature that will probably take us the rest of the year to read, lol.
Oh and one of the titles I picked up I'd like to recommend to all of you. With us having scrapbooking in common, I feel it is appropriate to share it. It speaks to us as artists. It's very small, so makes a quick read & probably will resonate deeply with each of you as it did w/me. It's called Art for God's Sake by Philip Graham Ryken and it has completely changed my perspective on who I am as an artist. I liked that it addresses artists specificly & that he refers to all kinds of art & artists in this book. It also has helped me to see more clearly that God, in His perfect plan, has CREATED ME to BE WHO I AM--an artist at heart! Reading this book has helped remove the feelings of doubt & guilt I have had in the past when I thought I was neglecting my relationship w/the Lord whenever I would choose to create a LO or a gift for a friend, over sitting down & reading the bible or doing a devotional. At one point these feelings had been so strong I almost felt like the only God-honoring thing I could do was quit scrapping/creating & devote all my free time to bible study & "seeking the Lord with all my heart."
But after reading this short book, I now see that IN BEING who God has made me to be, I AM seeking Him & that DOES honor Him! In fact, the more I create & use the gifts He has given me, with my heart in the right place, the more I honor Him, the more I exalt His name, the more I am showing His grace & glory & splendor & goodness & that in itself is an act of worship to the Ultimate Artist of us all, the Great Creator of the universe & everything in it! Now I see that God created some of us to be artists because it is a reflection of who HE IS-The Original Artist of all creation!!
If you have ever felt as I just described above, don't believe those feelings, you can't trust them. That is the enemy trying to rob you of the joy God has for you in who He has created you to be! Don't fall for it!! GET THIS BOOK and discover as I did just how much you do bring honor & praise & glory to God through the art you create as His beloved child in Christ!!

Hi ladies. I apologize for not being able to check in. The weather had been warm & returned to winter-like temps. In the process, I ended up with a bad cold that took quite a toll on me. I literally, just ate, slept & slept some more.

I guess the one good thing (besides feeling completely better) is that God answered my request to be able to complete at least 1 book a month. By being sick, I was able to finish one of the books that I had picked up earlier this month. Not in the way, I would have expected, but I suspect it was His way of answering a prayer of my heart to be able to devote some alone time with Him. For when I am weak, then I am strong!

Melody- you are right- God is good & sometime we just don't see we are following the right path because people have done wrong things. The best is yet to come. I remind myself often- the story of Joseph who was sold by his brothers- you meant it for harm, but God used it for good- to save many. For God was with Joseph & because of him, Egypt survived- otherwise the famine would have destroyed them as well as Israel's people. God has a plan & all we need to do is keep following him & He will guide us.

Jami- sounds like an awesome book- just clicked on your link & bought it on my Kindle so I can read it on the way home from work today

Next week, 30April will be my last day in the Military. Bittersweet. I tried asking for another 11 months- but they said they just couldn't do it- so 14 years is all I have- not enough. Now to file with the VA- time to call & make that appointment...

We got back Saturday from vacation- Orlando was beautiful- we couldn't have asked for better weather. Epcot was decked out for the Festival of Blooms- gorgeous flowers & all the characters were made of plants- amazing. I will be scrapping those photos next as I am going to send an album of the trip to my in-laws- I think that will really help my mil when my fil passes- he had a great time & that did her a lot of good. Having a scrapped book will give her something to look at & remember happy memories.

Hi,
I don't know if it is too late to join in on this challenge. And I'm not sure if I have to use the sketches provided. If so, I'll just leave this for sharing. I am working on my dd's preschool album. She attends a Christian school, so some of the los are faith-based. TFL!

Next week, 30April will be my last day in the Military. Bittersweet. I tried asking for another 11 months- but they said they just couldn't do it- so 14 years is all I have- not enough. Now to file with the VA- time to call & make that appointment...

Thinking of you today & saying a special prayer as you venture into the civilian world!

From one military veteran & military family to another, Thank You for your service & sacrifice towards our country!

Your time, loyalty & dedication is appreciated!!

See you all in May.
