I wasn't sure if there has been a challenge like this before, so I decided to go ahead and just create one!

- Do you like to Smash?

- Are you obsessed & addicted to Art Journaling?

- Own a Smash book? Or how about 4? or more?

Challenge Guidelines:

1. Just for fun share with us what type of Smash book you currently own. (If it happens to be one by K & Company what color or style do you have? i.e. Mod, Retro, Cutesy, 365, etc.)

If not K&Company, what type of book do you have or would you like to create? i.e. Composition book? DIY journal or mini binder? etc, etc!

2. How many books/journals have you already completed or will this be your very first one?

3. [Optional/Challenge Twist!] - Pick a special theme or topic dedicated to your entire book!

Challenge deadline - Books/pages/& journaling projects should be completed for this challenge NLT December 31st, 2013.

Note: At the end of the challenge, we'll take a vote & I'll send the winner a randomly fun mixed media prize pack!

Weekly Tips:

Each or every other week, I'll try my best to include something fun or inspirational towards our challenge!

This week to begin, I'll think I'll start with a motivational/organization al tip!

Tip - Grab It & Go! Consider setting up a home for your project. When not in use, keep it in a cloth/fabric/eco-friendly shopping bag, a scrap caddy, a plastic artbin, etc. (i.e. something that is portable).

Be sure to go ahead and stock your bag, box or bin with extra art supplies that you can be sure to use when away from home (journaling pens, inks, stamps, tabs, stickers, paperclips, adhesive, etc!)

When going portable, consider using a zipper, pouch pencil case, makeup bag or plastic school case to contain all of your writing pens, small tools, clips or post-its.

Currently, I have the black Mod Book.

Couldn't resist, made a trip to Target over the weekend & also picked up the pink Pretty Style, as well as the green 365 collection.

Update! I'm going to attempt to complete 2 books.

- Black Mod Style = Retro/Housewife/Day in the Life
- Pink Pretty Style = Vintage Love/Inspiration

Photo of the covers of the 2 books that I am working on, as well as a couple of my completed pages so far.

I may or may not add a couple of small touches to them.

I stumbled across this looking in the challenges for something else & I have several K&C smash books- 1 that I've been working on & need to put more into it- I have several things stuffed that I need to glue & all in there- this would be a great motivation for me to actually do it

here are 2 2pg pages I did today- one is a redo I took out the actual knit flowers I put in there & put photos in place as well as other photos of all the loom knitting projects I've done- the actual items were way too bulky for me:

I couldn't tell from the directions if we were supposed to start a new Smash Book. If not, I'd love in so I can finish this one. I had so much fun doing the first 5 pages and decorating the cover. I may keep adding touches to the cover because I have so much fun doodling on it.

The twist is 'Life On The Farm'.

Hi Kelly. That's completely & perfectly fine. They're each a work in progress & we'll certainly all be sure to need the time allotted. There's plenty of time & plenty of pages to go!

I'll be sure to add your book & or any completed pages that you already have in the works!

I accomplished a bit of journaling, worked on one of the covers & spent some time today going through my scraps & ephemera.

Exactly why I am loving these projects because they motivate me to use up items that I've been holding onto (er, cough! 'hoarding').

Nancy- I have that problem too. Best thing to do is gather some of the things you want to start with- then just put them in there- choose a spot that lends itself to what you have to stick in there & just do it. This is not a 12x12 LO & you are not trying to be perfect- it's more like a notebook you carried in high school & doodled on, but prettier.

Put things in there like some random photos of you or of something that strikes you as pretty or that you identify with. Go for a walk- pluck a leaf off a tree & whatever else strikes you to put in your book... It's kinda like a BOM, but more informal.

Hi there Nancy.

Like most brand new projects, getting started can be the hardest part at times.

Like Char mentioned, collecting & gathering up some favorite or special items is a great place to start. Maybe notes from friends...thoughts from your birthday...who you are & how you're feeling...special or favorite photos from the year so far...etc.

Do you like to journal or aspire to? Journaling is also a really great place to start! If you can't think of something to journal about, how about copying down some favorite lyrics, a special scripture or a poem?

Another fun & fantastic thing about these books is the opportunity to let your creativity soar. Even if you don't know what you want to scrap about, you could still start a page off by stamping, inking, painting, doodling, etc!

Your book can have a theme which might prove to be helpful or it can be about anything & everything. In the end, that's just part of the special fun!

Hopefully that gives you a jumping off point! If you still need more ideas just say the word. That's what we're here for!

Teresa- my best advice with a SmashBook is to 1) clear your mind, 2) open it at the beginning & browse thru the pages until you connect with the colors or images & something pops into your mind- whatever that is- a memory, a dream, a goal, a like... journal, gather photos, clips of a magazine, etc- Once you start the forcefield will be broken & you'll keep going

BTW I'm currently out of adhesive (heading to M's tomorrow) & my book is starting to get pretty thick (as in it won't close as easily!)

I seriously need to take some photos to share so you can see what I've been up to this past weekend!

Combination google search (by the name of the book)...
...partly from the K&Company website...
and a little bit of pinterest.

Even when I'm at the store & have them in my hand, I too forget which is which. Right now, I have Mod, Pretty & 365. Whenever free shipping day comes around, I'm hoping to add Tasty book to my collection, as well.

So far, those are my 4 most favorite ones!

Love this Ideal am so thinking of getting something together myself I spent many hours at my daughters ballet parents aren't allowed in so this would be prefect for smashing on the go

Thought I would ask there question

1. Just for fun share with us what type of Smash book you currently own. (If it happens to be one by K & Company what color or style do you have? i.e. Mod, Retro, Cutesy, 365, etc.)

I have the orange one not sure what it is

If not K&Company, what type of book do you have or would you like to create? i.e. Composition book? DIY journal or mini binder? etc, etc!

2. How many books/journals have you already completed or will this be your very first one?

Be my very first one but Im sure many more to come even thought next time making my own

3. [Optional/Challenge Twist!] - Pick a special theme or topic dedicated to your entire book!

My first book is one about me

I have a Question

Dose a smash book have to be done in order?

Cause I just seem to flip through the pages and work on the page that jumps out?

Julie- YOU GOT IT! Just do what jump outs at you- inspires you or fits what has inspired you.

Right now I'm working on a 2-pg that highlights my Army career- perfect pages are a foggy morning landscape scene in the K&C Eco book. I covered & painted a chipboard ARMY that was made to be the front of a chipboard shape album- next I'm going to find a patch & mostly do a journal or poem- that is churning in my brain- have yet to get it all down. Hope to be able to post pics by this weekend as I've been working on it in the evenings. It's an emotional process as I was recently discharged- it's about the end of that life for me. My DH is still in the Army NG- but it's not the same. You can take the Soldier out of the Army but you never take the Army out of the Soldier - once a Soldier, always a Soldier. I could be bitter as I'm short a year from collecting retirement when I turn 60, but I'm not bitter- I'm sad & yet it's also an opportunity to venture down a new path. Just because I no longer wear the uniform doesn't mean I'm not serving.

Ok-I'm still breathing but needed my inhaler...

I just printed a couple of photos and put them on a double page. I did not plan anything, just started sticking things on. Not sure I'm pleased with it, but its a start... I even wrote on the pages with my own handwriting (I don't like).

Used glue, so I'm stuck with this one... Baby steps, right?

Thinking of doing something regarding my scrappy obsession and the many collections of things/toys/tools I have e.g. paper, fiber, Thickers, shiny bits, Cricut, stamps, etc...

OOOhhhh! Tim Holtz and my love of his grunge! That could be an entire book but I could start with a single page!!!! I even have a photo of him sent by a friend from an expo!

I will post a photo when DH returns home with the camera.

Oh yes- instead of calling it cleaning we need to refer to it as treasure hunting as I always find where key items have hidden themselves away....

I have 5 total SmashBooks - have been avoiding looking at them in the stores, online, etc to keep from buying another. I am only working on the one & the other 4 are on top of a stack of stuff I need to sort thru. Maybe I need to play hooky for a day & sort thru it.

This past Friday I took in 2 kitties to foster for a bit & that has also disrupted my basement organization as I had to make room for more litterboxes, plus I put their food down there so my kitty & them wouldn't fight over that territory. Here we are on the 6th day & last night they discovered it's safe to come upstairs. I hope to be taking photos of both of them (one is very shy & hides all the time for every little noise). This is my first time fostering & it isn't stressful, just takes extra time.

So new smash books are on there way yay

I got the pink one cause its pretty

Green one is a food one and since I started a healthy eating and weight loss I thought it would be prefect for that journey

And Blue ons which is retro so I thought that would be good for my every day life

Now Im also thinking of getting the Blue School ones ready for next year when both my kids are at school so I might get it while its on special and put it away

Dose any one know I am doing to do a crafting smash book is there a book that is a crafters one?

Well I have a spare hour or so before dinner needs to be started so I'm going to work on a page or 2
