Welcome to the VLB (VERY LAID BACK CHALLENGE) -- August 2013 Edition.

The fabulous Eileen (ncyankee) has retired from her post as VLB hostess. I hope I can do her proud as the new hostess. Thanks for everything, Eileen!

Please read this entire post before you sign up.

For anyone new to this challenge, here's the idea: So many of us crave all the lovin' our neighbors leave when we do challenges, but sometimes we just want to create layouts and projects that have nothing to do with challenges (and still get some love!). Well, for this challenge, you can just create pages and other projects and link them here. You can follow my weekly challenges, but it's not a requirement. Basically, anything goes!

Here's the one and only catch: YOU HAVE TO LEAVE COMMENTS ON THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS' LAYOUTS AND PROJECTS. So, if you sign up, you are committing yourself to leaving comments as well as receiving them. To keep this from becoming an overwhelming task, I'm restricting the number of players to 30 or so. This is not a one entry challenge. This is a month long commitment to post ALL your work and check out everyone else's. Please post projects only from this month. And please be aware that we can be REALLY CHATTY on this thread and the posts can add up really fast.

Also -- I'd love to learn everyone's first name --if it's not in your siggy could you please tell us!

Every weekend I will try my best to post a new challenge! **I will be on a business trip August 5-15, so I may be off by a day or two!**

Challenges:

Week One: Makes Me Happy!

I've been kind of in a funk this week, so I need to do something that Makes Me Happy.

So, your challenge is to "Make Me Happy". (And by "Me", I mean "You".) Use the supplies and tools that make you swoon. Pretty paper, fun embellies, neat-o tools -- whatever it is, use it to make a page, a card or an altered item that either Makes Me Happy, or about a subject that Makes Me Happy.

And here's a little inspirational video, courtesy of GenieS, if you need it. I promise, we can all relate!

Makes Me Hap-py

Week Two: Days and Days and Days...

Scrap about a multi-day event. This can be a trip/vacation, festival, tournament...quite a few possibilities!

Week Three: Time Crunch!

Pressed for time but really want to get some scrapping done? Your challenge this week is to do a page, start to finish, in 60 minutes or less, not counting printing photos and/or gathering supplies to do your page.

Those of you for whom this is no big whoop: Do a 2-page spread in 60 minutes or less.

Your page(s) doesn’t have to be done in one sitting, but truly challenge yourself to scrap it fast!

Week Four: Retail Therapy!

Pick up something new and scrappy that you can use on a page, a card, or to organize your supplies. Show us what you made with your new stuff! If that's not an option, take something out of its package and go to town.

Working through my page kits - I'm totally in "git er done" mode right now.

Here's what I was going to post on the last one but it looks like that one is winding down so I'll put it here even though August isn't for 2 days.

Peeking in and getting caught up. I have some layouts to share from the WTTS crop but although its been a week since I returned home, I just unpacked last night. So I haven't had a chance to take pics of them as yet. Hopefully by the end of this week. Have a great evening ladies.

A number have asked:

Remember the song: "Born on a mountaintop in TN"?

It isn't so much a mountaintop, though it is the mountains--in Greene County TN on the Nolichucky River--where Davy Crockett was born. It's a wonderful relaxing place for a picnic--but wasn't entertaining enough for dgs to put it on his favorite things we did.

I do remember the Davy Crockett theme song. Fess Park played the part of Davy Crockett I think.

Hey guys, I'm back!

I had to take a break from scrapbooking while I was on the hunt for a second job but I finally found one and have been there almost two months so I'm feeling settled in and ready to get back into doing things I enjoy. I can't believe I haven't made anything since February

Me please. I'm still catching up in July, but I don't have much more to go.

Eileen - thanks for hosting for so long! And, please, do put up your pages from the crop when you get a chance! I was looking forward to getting another look at them. I feel like there were so many of everyone's I missed at the crop because there was just so much to look at.

Lesley - thanks for taking over this challenge and keeping it in the family

Cassie had her annual dance conference last weekend, so I'm still trying to get settled back at home. It's the last day of the month, and I haven't even finished my LO's for my own challenge. Nor have I figured out what I'm going to do for August's challenge so I need to get to it along with catching up on comments everywhere.

Ok, I got everyone thru Janeen.

Welcome back, Heather!

I picked up a portable Ott lite at Js today for $26.99. It was a 1-day sale and it will be great to bring to crops. yay! While there, DD spotted some Disney princess and fairy washi tape. What kind of mother would I be to deny my child the washi tape? (She had to promise to share it with me, though.)

I finished 5 today -- haha, not really. I had the bones of 3 of them done before I went out of town for the weekend. Today, I did 2 more and put the finishing touches on all of them. Since I was using the same supplies for all of these, I waited til the end to distribute the embellies.

I've been getting confused keeping things straight for journaling and such because I've been working on dance portraits (2011) so far ahead of where I am with candids (2008). SO, I decided I need to go back and work on these older dance photos in chronological order until I catch up with myself and the portraits so that I don't miss anything important in the journaling. LOL Anyway, these are my last dance pics from '08 and also the last pics from the '08-'09 dance year. I did those portraits IN '09. No wonder I can't keep things straight.

Megan(forum tech) recommended that I go to whatismybrowser.com to see if my computer is up to date. Everything was except Java - I installed the newest version, and now things are back to normal. I'm hoping that's the end of it.

Isn't that weird? Bev was describing the same problems yesterday. I wonder if Java just released a version and our computers hadn't auto updated yet. I know I checked and I had mine set to only search for Java updates once a month so clearly, it hadn't done it yet, but I didn't have any problems until yesterday.

What's weird--I haven't had Java for months, since I read it had security problems; so wonder if sb.com made a change this week.

What's even weirder is I am pretty sure that this site doesn't even use Java applets, that I can see in the code, so the Java plug ins shouldn't even matter, unless it's a browser compliance thing, but that still doesn't even make sense to me.

Lots of tabs open, will catch up in the next day or so.
I picked a tomato the other day from my garden that weighed in at 14.9 ounces! (totally random, yes, but also exciting!)
I hope to find some time tomorrow to photograph my growing pile of layouts. I'm still in shock that I'm actually creating!!!

Nancy, I am so glad to be done with that album. It was my biggest goal for the summer and I am just glad to be done with it. I was running out of ideas and steam on it.

I am returning to the Montessori school this fall. We start in 2 short weeks. It's so difficult to believe that summer is almost over. But it has been an amazing summer!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend and get to spend some time scrapping.

Happy Friday, jci and getting caught up.

@Bev, I so agree with you that I am so fortunate to get to go to all my crops/retreats. I've met some of the best people I know because of scrapbooking. Kinda reminds me of my old Army wife days. I started with the Atlanta ladies in 2007 we have two retreats a year, we just had our 14th in May of this year. And it was my 3rd crop with the WTTS ladies. I have one coming up in Nov and a special one for charity in Dec.

@Lesley, just wanted to say the "Stylish" LO has no ribbon on it, just cardstock that was either stamped, punched or masked. I did use a little bit of gauze on it...the sketch from Melissa made it easy.

Okay, off to my open tabs!

These layouts are very boring but I wanted to include them anyway. The places were very cool to visit but I didn't do a very good job of scrapping them. This was an interesting little port though. And the yield sign pyramid was amazing.

What's even weirder is I am pretty sure that this site doesn't even use Java applets, that I can see in the code, so the Java plug ins shouldn't even matter, unless it's a browser compliance thing, but that still doesn't even make sense to me.

Well - I do think it's just a coincidence since Bev doesn't even have Java -- which leads me to the question - why does anyone have it if it's not necessary - what is it?

I still think sb.com changed something and then changed it back - width of frames or columns or whatever they are called - because for me, it was like suddenly nothing fit on the screen right - shortened words on buttons, wrong size typing bars, the whole right hand column with faves, link/embed, etc was bumped to the very bottom under the comments - stuff like that. Then poof - it was all fixed. I don't get it.

Java is needed to run applets on other web sites. If you play any games on Facebook, most of those are Java-based.

Finished another one today! I'm loving no art class! LOL

DOO as well. I took these when I was waiting for Lisa to pick me up to drive to Michigan.

Well, I had a box that asked me to choose IE 8 or IE 10, so I hit that, then hit compatibility mode, and for now it's all right. And, no Java. Of course, I don't play games on my computer, so don't need Java for that.

Had a midafternoon nap and woke up with a headache which just won't go away. Gonna try a hot shower and into the bed early with a book. Good night!

ACU for now. Wait, I should've checked to see if Lesley was willing to put up with me this month. Yeah, like she would say no.

Love ya Lesley!

Soooo, I will start work in my classroom on Monday. I bought paint to paint my entire classroom. I also bought more black spray paint for a tall file cabinet (ugly) and to retouch the small one. Also need to repaint and redo coat hooks to save space from last year and have MORE hooks (22 were not enough). If I finish that on Moan-day, it will be a good start.

Looking at how to fix my white write-on board. Not sure about the adhesive film. It's sticky and tricky and will probably need 2-3 peeps to apply.

If I can keep momentum, I'm hoping to have basic classroom set up and decorated by end of next week. Then the following week work on procedures, putting everything in its place and being ready. Running copies...hoping to complete that too.

2 weeks until report date...the count down begins...

Ok, here's the beginning of my bomb I actually have 10 that I could share now, but I'll spare you and dribble out a few at a time. I was just happy to finally steal a few dog-free minutes to photograph them today

On another note, Evie (10 next week) went to my Bootcamp class today (they don't have the Kid's Gym open in the morning, and she really hates going to the Tot Watch). She said it was "the funnest class ever!" I'm destroyed by this class every time, and she thinks it's fun!

Well I'm massively behind! I will get acu today! My Europe scrapbook is getting to be massive. I just realized I used the original album which had all 7 countries and now it just holds one country.

Happy Saturday. Have a page on my table to finish up, and a wedding to get ready for. DH's cousin (he's close with all of his extended family, since he's an only child - it's how he dealt with no brothers or sisters) is getting married about 45 minutes to an hour away. I'm excited for him, but not really enthusiastic to go to a wedding. LOL. We have another one next Friday with one of my cousins! Busy wedding month, but the one on Friday is within walking distance from my house!

I was commenting that I commented without checking to see if I was on the list. Sometimes my mouth/typing gets ahead of the game!! No worries my friend. You are doing a superb job. Remember the Laid Back in VLB.

Christine-Happy Birthday to you Daddy!

Mel-DS is really close to two sets of cousins for the same "only child" reason. Hope you enjoy the family time. BTW-I added your contribution to my Mega-Zord page. Sorry that I forget initially. My old brain is overwhelmed with getting ready for school. Love YA!!!

Happy SWEET-End everyone!

Happy Saturday! So glad this week is over. It has been non stop busy. My parents had some issues this week after my dad hurt his back so I have been over there trying to take care of them and make sure they had dinner each night. We thought he was going to have to go to the hospital and I still wonder if he should but he is worried about mom and who will take care of her since she can't stay alone because of her Alzheimer's. I would be the one to take care of her but he worries.

One from me. A dt project for the new S.W.A.T. challenge.

Good afternoon! DOO -- first of the sets of photos from WTTS:

have paper - will travel By LesleyC

Mel-John and I have a wedding reception to attend on September 1. We will celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary on September 18; in 8 years, we have not been to a single wedding! We also got married kinda late, so that could have something to do with it.
