Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for such a long time, and I have missed it so much! My life has been upside down lately, won't bore ya'll with any details, but things are settling down now.

I want to let you all know that I AM doing my card project still, just off to a very late start this year, due to everything that has been going on. So for those of you who have done this before, please come back and help us again this year. I am upping my goal for the number of cards because our camp size has grown, and we need about 5,000 cards for the week.

THe cards are for a camp for battered, abused and neglected children. The camp is called Royal Family Kids Camp, and you can check out the organization at rfkg.org, if you want to. These cards are for the Clayton County Georgia camp.
The kids are treated to a fun filled week, and are shown lots of love. It is a Christian based camp, but they are not preached to --our goal is just to love them with the love of Christ, and to give them a week to make wonderful memories and new friends, and feel safe and loved. The counselors and other staff members write notes to each camper and they are put in their slot in the camp mail box. THe neat part is that we have a Post Miistress, who logs in a book to make sure that each canper is receiving cards, and that they all get about the same number of cards. Everynight, before bed, you will find the campers sitting on their bunks, poring over their cards and you can see how much they mean to them. They can't believe that people who don't even know them, would take the time to make the cards for them. You will never now how much a simple card will mean to these kids. A really touching story is that a few years ago, we had a brother and sister who were once campers themselves, come back as couselor and praise team member- the camp meant so much to them that they want to be able to give back!

Ok, on to the project; If you want to be a part of this, all you have to do is make cards.. and send them to me for the 2014 camp held in June. Here are the details;

1. Cards can be any size, however we don't recommend making them too large cause the staff has limited time and the bigger the card the more you feel like you need to write. I use scraps and make cards of all sizes, even little bitty ones are cute!

2. pretty much any theme goes; we do have a camp theme and as soon as i know it I will let you know, if you want to make some with the theme. designs for girls, boys, sports, princess, birthday ( we have a huge everybody's birthday party- some of the kids have never even had a bd party). We also have a talent show, and you can do cards to congratulate them on their job well done. cards with encouraging messages and thoughts are great, and they all love disney, super heroes, etc.

3. Consider getting some friends together and have a card making party...you can easily make 2 or 3 hundred with a group of people.

4, If you want to make the cards but mailing them might be difficult financially, let me know. we have people willing to pay the postage for any that might need it.

5. Mail to me at Rhonda Towe, p.o.box 583, Morrow, GA 30260.

6. Let me know if you are ready to get involved, and I will put your name on the list. any questions, just post to the thread and if I don't get to you first, some of the previous years group will answer if they can, or you can pm me.

Please spread the word and please join us. I am excited as if this was our first year; we didn't have near enough last year,, which was probably my fault, cause I wasn't on here like i need to be because of things going on. BUT i have already made about 500 cards myself this year, and getting some groups together to really get lots made. I have had sb.com members who work on this tell me what a blessing they get out of it, and even some who pray for our campers are they make the cards..you will be touched by being a part of this.. and mayu never fully know what these cards mean to them each year.

Thank you!

Welcome again rewa33...you have done this for several years right? Yes'm I did get your ps and they are great, got them ready for 2014!

The camp is mid June now, so I would send by the first week of June.
Thank all... Please spread the word to your friends! Any groups such as church ladies, teens, girlscouts etc. it's amazing how many you can make in a few hours with a group of people. The campers love them all, but I think the ones from kids like them really mean alot!

You should be able to just copy and paste the address (www......) into a post on the other thread and it should generate the link.

My nieces spent a day last summer making a bunch of spirograph pictures on card fronts I had given to them. I'm hoping some time (after the holidays) when I babysit them I can get them to attach the pictures to cards with washi tape.

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday season! I had a great Christmas but have been tied up a lot staying with my. 97 year old dad- 2 sisters were out of town and the. Some of our sitters were. It available so I was there a lot.

NOW I am ready to get back to working on my cards again! Our ladies at church are going to stay after our monthy Bivle study and make cards so I am getting all that ready for Feb. We should be able to make a ton of cards together.

I am setting a goal for how many cards I want us to have this year.....the most we have ever had was about 2,500 and we still ran out before the week was over. So this year I am hoping for at least 4000! Sounds crazy, but we can do it and they will be used for certain!

My personal goal is 500 cards and I am almost halfway there!

PleSe share this info with any friends you have that might want to be a part of this...

Thank you all for helping this year... We can do it,,,

Made some Spiderman cards over the weekend, then found out from a SuperBowl commercial that a new Spiderman movie is coming out soon, so good timing there I guess.

Also I couldn't make it to work this morning due to snow so I made more cards.

hi everyone. sorry that i haven't been on for while. my dh has been keeping me busy cause he has a diabetic ulcer on his foot since mid december, it had gone to the bone and was not healing well. he had to go to the hyperbaric chamber where he received pure oxygen for 2 hours a day for 5 days a week, and couldn't drive for about a month. it is finally healing and he is not in danger of losing his foot.
so, i wanted to get back on and let you know that i appreciate all who are making cards this year. I hope that we can get some more people involved, and i will be posting here more often to let people know about it.

if you aren't involved with this yet, please consider joining us. the first page of this post explains all about the cards for camp for battered, and abused children. the campers love the cards they receive, and they can't believe that people who don't even know them, and from all over the country do it for them. it is such a blessing to them, and to those who make the cards as well.
come join us!

From past experience sending, I think the camp is the last week of June. I always try to finish up over Memorial Day weekend and get them in the mail shortly thereafter.

Also, just for planning purposes - cards (paper) tend to get fairly heavy quickly so if you plan on making more then a dozen or 2 you are probably going to be sending by Priority Mail.

I've been bad about uploading items the past year or 2. If I have time over the weekend I'll post what I've made so far for this year's camp (and last year as well). I do have most of the ones I've made in early years in my gallery (card album).

They pretty much take any size card but I tend to lean towards smaller ones. I've sent anything from 3x3 to 4.25 x 5.5

Although there is a theme for each year's camp Rhonda hasn't mentioned what it is this year. They always need birthday cards, things like "Great Job" or "way to go", many of mine say Just for you, smile, enjoy the day, hello, etc.

Thanks so much for the information. I've been trying to figure out a useful purpose for all my scraps of paper and now I've found one.

Randasue, I'd like to send cards again this year. I have a few cards made, but really need to kick it up a bit to help you get to your goal.

In the past, you had us put our screen name on the back of the cards, do you still want us to do this?

I always struggle with word of encouragement, here's list of the main ones I use, I'd like to see a posting of other suggestions from anyone with ideas.

Way to go, Awesome, You're a Star, Fantastic, Great Job, Wow!, Fabulous and some variations of these.

Also, I have cat, dog, butterfly and bug stamps/dies, any ideas for words to coordinate?

Forgot that I had a question or two,

Do we put them in envelopes or include envelopes?

We don't sign them, right? But it's ok to put a sentiment inside?

She's asks for no sentiment on the inside cause the camp counselors like to write notes to the kids using our cards.
They don't need envelopes

I plan to work on cards this weekend. What are the age ranges of the kids who attend? Want to make sure the cards are age appropriate. Also is it ok if I decorate the inside of the cards - just some patterned paper or a bit of stamping in the corner? There will still be plenty of room to write a message.

If I recall from past years the kids are age 6-14. Designs on the inside should be fine as long as there is still room to write. At least I hope so as I've done that several times.

I got on a roll and have 140 done. I hope to get more done this weekend so I can start packing up a box to mail them out in time for this year's camp.

DisneyLisa, do you know if we're to write our screen name on the back of the cards?

Thanks!

hi everyone! I am sorry that I haven't been on here lately.. You know how life can get in the way...we had a water leak and now we are getting brand new kitchen, flooring, and everything...not complaining but i will be glad when they are done!

Some of you know that I have been taking care of my sweet daddy along with my sisters for almost 3 years now. He passed awy on May 23, and he was 97. He was with us and knew us and talked and sang up until his last 1/12 to 2 weeks, and he went peacefully in his sleep. of course I miss him, but I am resting in the knowledge that he is in a better place. My daddy loved to sing and whistle, and he woke up and went to bed doing just that. so, his favorite song was the old hymn, count your blessing. so at his service we sang that hymn, but on the last verse no one sang, just whistled, if they could. it was awesome, and i could just see my daddy laughing over it in my mind!.
Anyway, I have received alot of cards the past week, some had screen names, and some did not, so I am listing what I have to let you know that I received your cards. Thank you so much to all who have already sent yours, and to those who are sending theirs soon! they will be used up completely at camp by the counselors and staff to write the kids every day. we usually run our by the middle of the week, and they just write notes and put stickers on them, but the kids love the cards so much! My goal next year is for us to make enough that they will have enough for the whole weekl! BUT EVERY CARD IS APPRECIATED AND WE ARE VERY THANKFUL FOR ALL YOU HELP!!!

my dd fusses when I use all caps... im not yelling at ya'll ...just want to make sure you see how thankful we are!

if I don't get your name right, I am sorry.

THarp in Corone CA
Tricia P in alexandria va
Susan C in Frenchville Pa
kate G in bath, ohio
heather in Canal Fulton, Oh
Rhonda C in Kerrville Tx
Vicki

thanks again so much!!!!

So sorry for your loss.

I was concerned so I checked the tracking info and you got my box on May 22. I just put my screen name on a piece of paper on top of the cards. Next year will try to get them on the back of the cards.

I hope you got my box. I didn't sign my name on the back of the cards. Yikes, maybe next year. I'll start much earlier so I can send in more cards.

My condolences on the loss of your dad. He sounds like a great guy. Loved your whistling tribute to him.

Glad you received my cards. I am Tharp/Corona, CA. I forgot to include my screen name.

I think the idea of giving the kids cards w/notes of encouragement is an AWESOME idea. I will definitely plan to participate next year - hopefully making a lot more cards.

I think I've done this before. Is it to late to get cards in for this year. I can probably mail Wednesday or Thursday.

Have been trying to get mine mailed but the first box I had was too small. I found a larger box but then there was empty space which I was trying to fill. Its almost filled (I'm up to 270 cards at the moment) so hopefully I can finish up another dozen or so tonight to fill it and get them out to you tomorrow (Wednesday). Priority mail should only take 2 days so you should still have them to use for next week.

Hi everyone! thanks so much for your kind words about my Daddy. he was a wonderful man!

I am sorry if there are some of you that I have not posted that I received them. my life is a bit crazy right now.
we had a main water line break under the house, after getting that fixed they had to come and give us an estimate for the kitchen. so about a month agao, they started by taking out our kitchen cabinets and appliances, putting all our furniture ins a pod ( we are pod people now!) and began fixing the drywall and painting. since then, we have been waiting for the cabinets to be done, so finally they will be putting them in this thursday, then the new floor throughout all the kitchen, dining, living and hallway and laundry room. so i am not complaining, but i am tired of living out of our bedroom, and not being able to find anything! BUT i will get a new kitchen. what makes it rough is that on july 19 i will be hosting my 4th pageant for special needs children through adults, and I have so much to get done for it, there is no way I can stop and put my house back together when they finish if it is before the pageant!!
so, there is just a little bit going on in my life right now...not that everyone else isn't just as busy, but some days i don't think I can do it, but God always gives me someone to lend a hand, or a word of encouragement, and i keep going a little bit more.

so thanks to all you wonderful cardmakers!!!! i managed to make over 600 cards this year myself, but I want to make over 1,000 next year... i will have a little more time once the pageant is over and my house is put back to normal!!

I received cards from renwa33, disneylisa. dkscrapper but there might have been some that the label got thrown away (my dh trying to help with the mess), so I apoligize if i didn't list you. I couldnt do this project with out you all, and lets go for a record for next year!!!

Thanks everyone...take care and please keep me in your prayers these next month.appreciate ya'll so much
