Hi everyone! Welcome to another month of the Four Categories Challenge! This challenge is about using our 'stuff' and, maybe, trying something new.

The goal is to complete up to four different LO's, each one fulfilling a different category - product, color, technique, and theme. You may enter one LO for each category, but you may not use the same LO to fulfill more than one of these categories. You do not have to do all four. You may, of course, stack other challenges with any of the LO's you enter here. Only LO's created and uploaded between February 1 and midnight PST February 28, 2014 will qualify.

At the end of the month, I will ask you to vote for your top 3 favorites from each category. You will receive a vote for each of your LO's just for voting, and any twists that are completed will get an extra vote. Those who complete all four LO's will receive an additional vote for each of their LO's. I will create a poll with the top vote-getters from each category so we can choose an overall winner to whom I will send a small RAK. In addition, I will send a little something to an eligible challenge participant chosen by Random.org. To be eligible for this second RAK, a player must enter at least one LO in the challenge, check into the thread at least a few times during the month, AND send in votes before I set up the poll.

Please, read the specs for each challenge carefully! If you have a question, ask!

Category One ~ Product: Twine
A popular product right now is twine, and I want you to use it on one of your LO's this month: baker's twine, hemp cording, twisted jute – you choose.
Twist: Wrap some twine around one of your photos to earn the twist.

Category Two ~ Color: Navy Blue & Pink
I love the combination of Navy Blue and Pink. You can use any shades of pink with your navy, and they don't have to be the only colors on the page, but try and really feature them.
Twist: Add some glitter to your LO.

Category Three ~ Technique: Quilling
Quilling is a technique that I haven't seen as much of lately as I used to. It can be really fun and can be done with or without a quilling tool. There are lots of great tutorials out there to help you. Don’t let it scare you! You can do something as simple as a basic scroll or create extremely elaborate designs. Give it a try!
Twist: Use a quilled heart on your page.

Category Four ~ Theme: Snow Day
This has been one of the snowiest winters in a long time. It's February 1st and we're in the midst of another Winter Storm Warning here in Chicago with several more inches predicted before the end of the day. Do a page about a snow day activity. Do you bundle up and head outside? Do you hunker down with a cup of hot chocolate and the TV remote? Do you catch the first plane to a warm climate? For those who live where it doesn't snow, what is winter like for you? Do you go to the beach? Do you wish for snow? Interpret this theme any way you please. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!
Twist: Include a snowflake somewhere on your LO.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The fine print:
1. Any size LO 8x8 or larger is allowed, including 2-pagers. Please post your 2-page LO's with one photo of both pages together. I will allow digi, but please realize some of the challenges will not apply to digi (especially in the technique category). If you can convince me that your digi LO fulfills the challenge, I will allow it. Keep in mind that the RAK will be for paper scrapping.
2. Please allow public embedding on your pages. Also, please specify the category in which you are entering your LO in your post and in your description. If applicable, please explain how your LO fits the challenge, and if you did the twist and where/how. Don't make me hunt for it. If I can't see it, and you didn't tell me about it, you won't get credit for it.
3. If you get love, leave love. I will not be a psycho about this, just do the best you can. However, if I notice that someone habitually neglects commenting on the other players' entry LO's, that person will be disqualified from winning the RAK. No one is going to be excluded from the voting or poll and the chance to win the challenge. I'm just reserving the right to NOT spend my own time and money on buying and shipping a RAK to a person who doesn't participate. It's only if I never or only rarely see the winner's posts on other LO's in the gallery or the winner is someone who doesn't check in here in the forum a few times a month that I will check into it further and decide for myself if I want to make the effort to send something out. Please, don't stress about it!
4. Please, only share LO's that fit one or more of the categories. Commenting on shared LO's is up to each individual player.
so I was immediately inspired to do pink and navy blue page as I had never noticed that color combo. Had to force it a bit for a boy page but I think it works.
Hi girls! I've got everyone added and LO's posted to here.
We're supposed to have more snow around rush hour today - right when I was planning to run and get some pics printed - so hopefully, I'll be able to get that done so I can start on these challenges soon.
Updated to here.
Another snow day today - but just for Cassie's school. The public schools went - so I'm waiting for the neighbor boys to get home so I can ask them to do my driveway. I SO do not want to shovel it, and I can't get the snowblower started. I shoveled a bit in the backyard so Abby would have a place to go, and that was enough for my back.
In the meantime, I'm working on my navy and pink LO. I hope you all are having a good day!
Updated to here.
Sorry Amy! Thanks for trying, and I'm sure it came out better than you think!
Okay, ladies - I have some ideas yet for future months, and of course, we're going to have to come back around to some things as well. But... here's where I would love to hear your ideas about what you would like to see come up in this challenge. Please throw out some ideas for products and techniques that you like or need to use that you haven't seen or would like to see again. Thanks!!
Lisa- you ask and I shall deliver.
- Wood veneer embellishments
- rub-ons
- die cut
- chalkboard
- doily
- arrows
- cardboard
- silhouettes
B&W only
NEON
Pastel
rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue AND purple)
use a B&W pic
Technique:
- sew easy (I have one, I like it, I forget to use it)
- paint splash behind title letters
- Sewing and stamping on a page
- interactive (hidden journaling, 3D card,
Journaling- use more journaling on the page then photo (if 1 4x6 photo, cover 5x7 in journaling)
- mixed media (use gesso, inks, paint, stamping over stamping, layers, distressing)
- overlapping circles (minimum of 10 circles any size)
- multi pic (use 5 or more pictures on 1 page)
Theme:
home
hobby
List- top 10, 40 things about me at 40,
We could do homemade modeling paste, stencils/mascils, crackle accents, lacing, hot glue (like this: Complexity By NMscrapper) or (HA!) we could take it old school and use the Fiskars decorative edge scissors!!!
Wow - lots of new LO's to look at and get posted. Yay! I'll be working on that as I scrap today.
Thanks for the suggestions too - I like that some are things we have done already. It eases the pressure to come up with new things every month. I had a few of those ideas in mind already too, so we seem to be on the same page. I just worry about doing something that is too specialized as far as needing to own particular tools because I want everyone to be able to play. I will add all these ideas to my list for the future!
Yay! Thanks for giving quilling a shot, Sara! Remember guys, there doesn't have to be a lot on the page for it to count. You just have to give it a try!
I have photos for the snow category, but I am stuck on what I want to do.
I don't know how to quill, but I am looking at you tube videos trying to figure it out.
As for navy and pink . . . just don't know if it is going to happen. I am surrounded by boys, and I can't figure out a way to make it work. Still looking at photos though, and hoping to come up with a page.
Updated to here.
Pam, I'm glad you received the package okay.
Amanda, I know what you mean. I'm working mostly on November & December of 2008 and September-December of 2009, and none of my photos from those time periods involve snow. lol I had to move into January 2010 to find some.
I'm finishing that up now. I'm a little bit stuck. It needs something, but I'm not inspired. Maybe because I am SICK AGAIN. For those keeping score, this is the 5th time since the last week of October. Evidently, my immune system is completely shot. We got 6 more inches of snow yesterday, and shoveling almost killed me. More is expected on Thursday. I'm really counting down the days until spring.
Lisa, hugs to you! five times in four months is a lot!! I remember DH having a bout like that few years back - he carried prescriptions with him to the dr appts to make sure they don't repeat antibiotics that he took recently!!
hold on, the spring is near ... what did the groundhog say? we'll hold him responsible LOL))
Thanks, Olesya! I'm thankful that, at least, Cassie hasn't gotten it from me any of these times so far. This is actually the first year of school EVER that she hasn't missed any days yet. Knock on wood.
Here's mine for Snow Day with the twist - it's plain, but I think I like it. I've been on a simple-with-lots-of-white kick lately.
Hi Lisa, wanted to let you know that I got my package today...thanks so much for the punch! And thanks everyone for the votes. I didn't even know I won anything, since I didn't sign up this month I haven't even looked at the challenge. I didn't want to be tempted LOL, I really love your categories but haven't really been scrapping lately. I've still only scrapped one page for the whole month.
Thanks again and hope you feel better soon for good
We're down for the count. I stayed home with ds in the morning yesterday and then dh came and stayed with him in the afternoon. I stayed home again with him all day today (dh had to travel today for work) - luckily tomorrow is supposed to be my day off so I just asked the receptionist to try to move all my clients over to tomorrow so hopefully they won't miss out on treatments.
My throat is still sore but that's as far as it has gone for me. My poor little man has a runny nose, cough, assuming a sore throat since he cries when he coughs and a touch of fever. Breaks my heart to see him not feeling well.
Hope everyone gets to feeling better. I think this has been the roughest winter; with all the cold, snow, and illnesses.
I'm sure glad we can't get sick from being on the computer together. Everyone sounds like they are having a terrible time this year with illnesses.
I'm still trying to come up with some quilling that I am happy with and that I can work into a layout. It's just not working out for me.
WOW Amy those are ALL great ideas!
I also thought of:
Staples - twist staples on a photo
Photo corners- have & rarely use.
March theme- "what in your life has made it "richer" ( sorta off from the Pot of Gold)
I'll try to come up with more!
I am so sorry that so many of "us" or our love ones are ill! It SUCKS! Hope "ALL" will be feeling better soon.
On another note... Is it the weather weird? Here all of you guys in the East have had horrible winter and I am in Southern California, & we have had no rain! I am not happy about it… We are in a major drought! We have had like 1 inch, and if you drive around everything is dead. If you don't believe in global warming… Just look around.
Here is my entry for category 4 with the twist of a snowflake (all over the pp and one on the journal spot). We have had enough snow days in just the last two weeks to last for a winter. Forget about all the snow and other miserable winter weather we have had since December.
