Manipulate your background paper. Try using stamps, sewing, chalk, distress inks, tearing, misting or whatever you would like. Remember the background effect can be subtle too! Anything goes as long as your background paper is changed somehow.

The attached LO I have stamped the whole background. I know you ladies and gentlemen will come up with some great ideas!

I'm in and in fact already did one. I thought it may be too early but I see the dates are 3/29 thru 4/30.

On the bg pp the white leaves along the side were already there. I stamped with my script stamp...I also used a stencil and gesso for the bit of white design behind the photo and also inked it which I wish I hadn't. I also added stamped stitching around the edges.

Okay I spent all day today doing this one layout. I started with white paper, Then I adhered a paper napkin to it with a sheet of Clear wrap. I then covered the napkin with clear modge podge and sprinkled it with glitter. So that is how I spruced up my background.

I played! Though I admire spruced up backgrounds, I am always afraid to "mess up" my own.
Thanks for the nudge to break out my never-before-used stencil stash.

Charris449- Wow. I can see how this took you so long. I can't believe you started with white paper because the transformation is beautiful.
Janet- Funny we are afraid to mess up a piece of cardstock when in the big picture it probably cost less than $1! Thanks for joining beautiful LO!
Sewflake- Beautiful stenciling.
AuntyT- Did you use paint and a brick stencil for that? It looks beautiful!

I did use paint and a brick stencil! I hated that stencil by the time I was done!

Sorry for being MIA this week had a busy week working. What beauty and talent you all have.
Scrapplynn- How creative to use tearing..didn't even think of that.
Erin- It is amazing how a little mist can totally change a plain sheet into something beautiful.
Igtaylor- That must have taken a long time to do each section of the paper individually. I think that should count as double the entries! Great idea.

I made this background from white paper and added acrylic paint. Used a brayer and gelli plate to get the effect. I like it.

here is my entry:

First I painted doily stencil with silver glitter paint, then misted it with sea grass green, then painted mowed lawn over faded dot stencil and black soot paint over burlap stencil. Then used prima stamp with black soot distress ink to stamp randomly around page. then I blended forest moss distress ink around the page. Then distressed around the entire page. Also blended forest moss over the back-background page

Checking in..Haven't been on in a couple of days. What beautiful work everyone has! Left some comments on your individual pictures.
It is nice when you post and you tell us what you did to the background. In the pictures, it's hard to tell sometimes...what is manipulated and what came that way. Is not required that you do this and I realize everyone is busy, just helps to give us all new ideas

Just posted my lo...Life's A Dance. I wanted to do a monochromatic page, but my light purple lettering was hard to read. I painted the star to mimic the star behind my DD and the star on the other side of the pic. You still couldn't read the title so I chose a darker shade of purple and it popped. Thanks for looking. One of my favourite challenges.....I have to mess around with the background somehow!
This time I used a stencil and Glimmer Mist to create the 'tea ring' stains and stitched a bunch of circles.
