No way I'll miss this challenge!! Great twists!

Decided I'll spend some time this weekend prepping for crop next weekend. Didn't really "unpack" from last crop and want to use more of my stash before splurging with my goodies from ScrapExpo! Decided I'm going to try and focus on my parent's Community Service album...need a break from the 1930s.

I got all my carts and did start a LO using one of my new carts, need to explore more!
Norma, glad your DH is on the mend.
Congrats to Julys winners!!

I am still working these Red Rocks pics- the girls are down at the very bottom where the stage is and they found their Papa up at the top in the bleachers, that's why they're waving! I think the middle kiddo couldn't find him, as she looks confused!! TFL!

Last night was definitely all about ME time!! I have such a busy weekend (with cooking, cleaning and PRECIOUS grandbaby time) that I dedicated last night to SCRAPPING. I managed to complete three los (one 12x12 and two 8x8's) using the same photo. Two are gifts and the 12x12 is mine.

All three include the twist - an owl

Good morning!

Thanks for the warm welcome back. Lots of great layouts already posted. I am acu with love so far. I'm still trying to figure out what I am going to do for this challenge so don't panic if I am near the end of the month posting anything.

Norma, yes, DH is doing very well. Thanks for asking. He got to go back to work but only to find out that the coal mine where he works is closing. It will be closed for good by Friday. So life is still very stressful here but I need to get back to this group to get a break from the stress! I'm glad to hear that your husband is recovering from his kidney stones. I've heard that they bring terrible pain to their victims!

Vickie, love the baby layouts! He is so precious.

have any of you ever used your cricut to cut something in a very specific part of the page?

my son has a school assignment to have a 2" circle cut out of a paper so you can only see that part of the photo underneath. of course I got all excited because this is something I can help with...I just don't know how easily I can assist.

Melanie - if you use CCR you will be able to place the circle anywhere you want on the page. Otherwise you can load your paper, set your cut area/paper size and then move the blade around by using the arrows on the cut button (cricut expression) You will probably need to do a couple of test runs in order to get the perfect placement.

Hope this helps. Maybe someone else has a better/easier way.

Good morning all, I am going to see if I can stay off this machine long enough to get some work done today.

As far as cutting out shapes on a specific part of the paper.......... do it like Vickie suggested!! CCR works so well for me that I don't think I can design by using just the Cricut any more! I don't know of any easier way than what she suggested. A test cut is best especially if you have to place the circle within a very specified spot on the page.

Dawna you are in, sign ups are now closed.

Anna sorry to hear about your husband. Is he near retirement age?

I am trying to get laundry done today so I don't have to worry about it tomorrow but after that is finished I can play in my room-which is in dire need of a cleaning.

Happy Sunday!

Melanie - sorry, I'm new to using my Cricut even though I've had it for ages. Looks like someone answered your question though.

Got my first project completed with a twist using owls! It's a birthday banner for my sister's friend's daughter. Am I allowed to say how happy I am with how it turned out? I've seen these banners on sale on Etsy for $40 or more! It was so fun and easy to make. I used a flower punch to make the owl more girly.

Used the Create a Critter cartridge for the owls, Slice for my letters, handcut banners, and flower punch.

Thanks for looking!

Thought I would pose this question to the group since it looks like we have some Cricut pros.

When I want to adjust the size of my cut and change the dial, is that for the height or width of the image? And more specifically, I have the Word Collage cartridge. I want the length of my word to be a certain size. Will the size dial help adjust that or is it the height of the word? I can always figure it out by actually cutting it but I'm not ready to cut yet anyway. I appreciate your time. Thanks in advance!

Morning Ladies,

Thanks Norma, happy to be back. I have albums to get started on so I'm hoping this will help.

Anne I think the answer to this varies. If I remember correctly, it is cartridge specific. It should be explained in the first few pages of your booklet. For example the real dial size on or off makes changes in size, some optional buttons like shift with layering make changes too.I'm not familuar with your particular cartridge, so I really can't say. Some of the older ones don't explain it at all, so you have to do a bit of trial and error to get what you want. Others will explain how to get the size and orientation you want. Sorry Anne, wish I could be more help.

Anna I'm so happy to hear that your husband is feeling better, but sad to hear about his job. Like Norma asked, is he able to retire?

Norma, question. Do our projects have to be layouts can they be cards too?

Off to catch-up on sugar. Have a happy day ladies.

Anne, I use Cricut Craft Room for everything now so I cannot remember for sure how the dials work but I "think" the size is for height. Have you tried CCR? It has a mat right there on your computer screen so you can see EXACTLY how things will cut AND you can pull or push the corner button to resize in a flash. Hope this helps!

EXPLORE owners, what are your opinions on the new machine? More importantly, what do you think of Design Space? I have heard a lot of bad things about DS but all fabulous things about the Explore. However, since the Explore does not work at all, not one little bit, without DS...it really concerns me.

I love that there is BlueTooth capability, anyone using that? I'd LOVE wireless cutting!

But, I cannot even get DS to install on my laptop and I have followed the directions carefully several times. That is one very big bad sign for me. If I have to call PC starting with software install then I will pass.

Anne, I am like Kristie and use CCR exclusively!! I could never figure out exactly how the manual machine worked with each cartridge. I find is so so much easier to use CCR! Easy to manipulate each image on the screen right in front of me then cut!

I have and am still thinking about getting a Cricut Explore so I would be VERY interested in hearing all the pros and cons of the software.

My best bet would be to take more Silhouette classes and learn all the capabilities of my Cameo!!

No matter which machine I use I really enjoy being connected online, even at crops. Cricut certainly gives you more options when it comes to designing on line or manually. It just takes more knowledge than I have at this time.

All caught up on sugar, that wasn't too bad and so many cute owls so far! I saw a few cards, but still not sure they count as a project. Just in case they do, I'll share this one I did for my dad. I used Life's a Beach for the sun:

Good morning.

Dawna ANY project with a cricut cut counts.

Anne sorry I can't help, I am a trial and error kind of girl and use my scraps to make the cut first to see if it is the right size I have been using CCR ALOT more and finding I am really liking it though I do like being able to pull out a cart and just cut instead of having to hook up to CCR.

I think I am going to hold out on the Explore until Christmas and ask Santa for it then

Waiting on trainer to get here, will be back upstairs this afternoon to finish a layout I started yesterday before the afternoon got crazy with family.

Good Monday morning!!

I always remember when using the dials on the machines that when putting in a number/size, it was measured first by height - the length was determined by the integral part of the design and not changeable. Which is why sometimes you get that little message that says" image wont fit".
Like said in the posts above, that's the beauty of using CCR- all images can be manipulated!!

Kristie, on the Explore- LOVE the machine.
As far as the software- at first I hated it! I am now used to it and don't have a problem. My biggest problem was that there wasn't a "mat" to design on, just a big white background. I am a visual person to begin with and then when I am creating in a virtual sense, I want to "see" my work area. They have since added an option to have grid lines and that works just fine for me, which is why I am so much happier with the program!! Something as silly as lines could make or break the deal! But I use a line when placing text and welding, without that, my letters were just like floating. No good!
I don't know why you'd be having a hard time to install the software, mine went w/o a hitch. Could it be something with your computer? Firewall or security stuff? I don't know much about computers, so can't help there. I will say PC is very helpful and would walk you through it. I wouldn't let that be a deterrent. The machine ( IMO) is worth every penny. I have not got into the Bluetooth, all my cutters are hooked up and ready to go, all cords are behind my counters, so it's really not a pull for me to have the Bluetooth, also, you still have to be next to the set up to create and cut, so I just don't see the need.
Also, on the software, I am pretty basic when using it ( as with my Cameo software ) so I don't have any issues with what all it can or cannot do- I do know that the Cameo software offers so much more, and I've seen it compared to that one and everyone says DS is lacking A LOT!!
But, for me because I just pretty much want to cut, so it works. ( altho, it would be nice to have a shadow feature like the Cameo software does)
Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions, I will try to answer.

Working on a LO I started yesterday, will try to finish up today. I still need to get ACU.

Well I did it again!! I have too many things going on in CCR at the same time with large images that I bogged down the program. Most of the time I have to shut my computer down just to get it to quit so I can start over!!!

ACU on love and chatter!

Decided I needed a break from job hunting and a décor change - so I used Storybook for alphies on tree trunk. Tree is one of those big rusty metal décor items that I got for a wall. Also found the Family décor and now with the letters I really do have a family tree! I guess I should find an owl cut and put it in my tree

Lots of quick producers this month and hopefully a sign that our new normal will work out!

Hi everyone! Thanks for all your input. I have not tried CCR yet. I think I'm just going to try and cut it on a scrap. That's what I did for my "love" title cut. Unfortunately, the cartridge I want to use did not come with a booklet. It only came with a bifold handout.

Hi ladies!

We are back from our trip - camping for several days and then BILs wedding. Very glad to be home! I have this week off of work because our daycare is on holidays so I am hoping to get lots of scrapping done! There are lots of things I want to do around the house too so we will see how much of each gets done - hard to do a lot at once with a toddler around!

unlike the others, i will not use CCR. there is no computer anywhere near my scrap space or cricut and i don't want to (and can't) change that.

i know when you change the height of a letter the width changes too, because you are making it larger or smaller. the font style affects how long it will become. ie: jubilee is skinny letter so it stays short in length but zooballoo is a wider font so the word would get longer.

i don't like using a lot of scraps to practice to get everything the preferred size, but it does work.

that reminds me, i should get new blades and a new mat....
