Several of us are a tad frustrated with the lack of options for a color challenge ... we miss the Monochrome Challenge, we don't like Design Seeds because the palette is usually too big and complicated, and we want to be able to have an option of adding some additional color without feeling like we're cheating the challenge. We got to talking about it, thanks to ppilgrim, and put our heads together to see what we might come up with. And by jove, I think we've done it!

It has a little something for everyone, lots of flexibility, and plenty of challenge options. So if, like us, you've been looking for just the thing to inspire your desire for color without going too far off the deep end, check out the Color-Chrome Challenge, newly launched just today.

This month is a trial run. If we get a good play on it, we'll do an official leap in March.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

1. Each month there will be a palette of one picture and three colors.
2. There will be FIVE chrome-challenge options that you can play (kind of like the current monthly sketch challenge).
3. You can play as many of the options as you want. You can play options more than once if you like.
~ Patterned papers are permitted, provided that the majority of the pattern conforms to the color specs in your selected option
4. No need to sign up, just play and when you post, list the option you chose and we'll get it to the first post.
5. Make sure that you enable embedding!
6. It's a layout challenge, so we're restricting the project to layouts only. Digi is fine!
7. You can back date to the 1st of February if you want to submit projects for this month. :-)

**NEUTRALS** These are the colors my momma always told me go with everything.
~ White, off white, black, brown, beige, grey, olive, and navy.
~ You may add neutrals to your project as you feel a need as long as the majority of your layout fits the color profile of the chrome choice you have selected.

RANDOM dot com WILL SELECT A WINNER FROM THE LIST OF SUBMITTED PROJECTS. THE WINNER WILL SELECT THE IMAGE TO BE PUT INTO A PALETTE FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF PLAY.

The DEADLINE for submissions isSunday, February 25. I'll submit to random. org sometime the 26th, which will give the winner 24 hours to get back to me with an image in time to get my end of things done by the 28th.

I think that's everything for now, but since this is a trial run, I'm sure there will be lots of questions pop up, so I'm going to reserve a Q&A post as well.

Here's February's Inspiration.

And here are the five(5) Chrome options. Do whichever one or ones appeal to you and do as many of them as you like! The number in parentheses is how many possible variations of that particular level there are.

1. Monochrome (3)
~ Monochrome means "one color" so in order to be a MONOchrome layout, your project must be obviously one color with the exception of neutrals.
~ Wide variations of shade, tint, and hue are permissible in a monochrome project - pink and red are the same "family" of color so would be allowed together.
~ Select one of the three color palette options and create a "one color" layout.
~ Addition of neutrals to be no more than 25%

2. Pair A Chrome (3)
~ Select two of the three colors on the palette and use them to create a "two color" layout.
~ Wide variations of shade, tint, and hue are less permissible, but tones that are obviously close are allowed.
~ Pattern papers are permitted, provide that the majority of the paper conforms to the color spectrum selected
~ Addition of neutrals to be no more than 25%

3. Trifecta Chrome (1) - use all three of the colors on a single layout.
~ Use all three of the palette colors on a "three color layout"
~ MINOR variations of shade, tint, and hue are permissible, but colors must be obviously close to the spectrum.
~ Pattern papers are permitted, provide that the majority of the paper conforms to the color spectrum selected
~ Addition of neutrals to be no more than 25%

4. Rainbow Chrome (finite) ~ for those of us who don't like color limitations!
~ Use the image to inspire a color palette of your own choosing.
~ Any and everything is permissible, provided that the colors are visible in the inspirational image.
~ Create your layout using your own inspired palette.

5. Inspirational Chrome (infinite) ~ for those of us who really don't like color limitations!
~ Use the image to inspire a color palette of your own choosing.
~ Any and everything is permissible, including adding additional colors not visible in the image.
~ Create your layout using your own inspired palette.

I don't see why not. They would photograph as grey and beige without the metallic, so we'll say, "yes."

Okay - not sure if this fits option 4 - I used brown/kraft as the base and added tones of pink (rather than the red in the picture)- though one is fairly dark . I was inspired by color picture - love my GGD and added hearts.

I think there is less than 50% of the dark brown neutral here - at least enough less to qualify this as a Pair A Chrome.

I think this is actually a trifecta ... you used all three colors, right? and only added neutrals, right?

I think it's closer to a Pair A Chrome with the blue & red ... I don't really SEE the tan if it's there, so we'll go with the Pair option. :-)

Ok. I've updated the front page to here. LOVELY projects, and it's great to see so many projects submitted.

NOTICE FROM THE HOSTESS ~

In order to get the next round up by March 1st, we need to have the winner selected before then to give them time to select an image to get back to me to give me time to get it worked into the color palette.

SO -- let's make the DEADLINE for submissions Sunday, February 25. I'll submit to random. org sometime the 26th, which will give the winner 24 hours to get back to me with an image in time to get my end of things done by the 28th. OK?

Posting this to the front page!

And here's our winner!

12. Icy Lake By Scraping4fun25

Congratulations Scraping4fun! You get to select our March image!

1. I need enough lead time to get the palette created and up by March 1.
2. Sometime in the next 24 hours, please send me a PM with a link to the image you would like to use. Make sure that it is colorful enough that there will be multiple color options.
3. Tell me which three colors in your image you would like to see the palette use.
4. I'll get that image into the palette creator and we'll go from there.
5. If, for some reason, I don't get your image choice, I'll go ahead and select one.

Intimidated? What's to be intimidated? You pick a color. you pick another color. You put them together and turn it in. It's right up your wheelhouse. Come on, D. You can do it. I have faith in you!

I'm very OCD Pat and when I look at my colors I'm like "but that's not the right color...or is it?"
You know... that kinda thing...
Sorry, I know you have faith in me and I appreciate it... but yeah my head tries too hard to be like "perfection or nothing, missy!" at least in this case

Ok. So you have to look at that palette like you look at everything else. It's just a game.

You and I have played together enough that by now I hope you know that

#1 ~ I understand OCD well. ;-)
#2 ~ Close enough is ALWAYS close enough.
#3 ~ Done is ALWAYS better than perfect.
#4 ~ It's just for fun so who cares if it matches exactly?
#5 ~ Use what you have and see what happens.

So get your game on, relax, and just play and see if you can't create something you love ... yes?

Yes... you guys can totally have a slumber party! And if you get cold easily, snuggles w/ him will keep you warm...but be warned, he likes to "hog" the covers I know this from experience!

::spoiler alert::
It's a BEAUTIFUL picture!
