Welcome to the next chapter in the Die Cutters Challenge! I have Pat's blessing to adopt and nurture it. For the first few months, this may be a work in progress, so please be patient with me.

Here we go!

Open to all types of die cutters, both manual and electronic.
When posting your project, please tell us what machine you used, and any dies, cartridges, or files.
All types of projects are welcome.
Dates to post: June 8 - June 30.

I am hoping this will be a challenge where we can not only share our creations, but learn from and be inspired by each other.

Hello, Everyone -

I am a cardmaker and I use dies - and my Cameo - constantly. I hope it's okay for me to post in this challenge. If it's just for scrapbook layouts, you can let me know and I'll go quietly.

As long as I'm here, though, I have two projects to post. Here's the first:

The dies used in this card are:
Spellbinders Swirl Lattice Panel (the 'gate')
Tim Holtz Alterations Elegant Flourishes Bigz Die (the 'vine')

Cutting Machine: Manual Big Shot

I wish I'd had the dies for the flowers and leaves but had to fussy-cut them. I don't like to fussy-cut, probably because I'm not very good at it, but I made do, since I was only making the one card. I think I'll invest in those dies if I ever want to make more of this card! Or just the flowers and leaves. I do like the shapes.

More details about materials and techniques in my gallery post, if anyone is interested.

I'll show you my second project in a separate post.

Thanks!

Well, since nobody's kicked me out, I'm emboldened to show you one more card that I just made on Friday. It's so quick and versatile, I'm tempted to make a bunch more, with different-color BGs just to have them on hand.

I made the 'rainbow' background with Distress Inks and the Nuvo blending brushes. This was the first time I've used the brushes and I just love working with them! I find them much easier - and smoother - than the blending tools with the felt or foam pads on the bottom. I know TH/Ranger makes a blending brush, too, but I haven't tried that one yet.

The black overlay is just plain cardstock and was cut on my Cameo, using the 'Swirly Background' studio3 file by Hero Arts, purchased from the Silhouette online store. I modified it to fit my A2 card, minus a bit to show the white border from the card base behind. And I had to cut the overlay twice b/c the first one didn't cut through well enough and it was really hard to 'weed'. Turned into a hot mess that I had to trash. Not sure if it's just my machine, but my cut settings need to be quite a bit higher than the mfr. recommendations to work for me. And I even purchased the upgraded blade. Anyone else have that problem?

In with my Silhouette and Explore and Big Shot.
Today I only used my Silhouette with the - Henry font- for the title. I tilted the letters so they would weld easier and not distort the letters to much.

Thank you, Lyn!

I have a question: Do the items we post here need to be only things we have made during the course of this challenge, from June 8 to the 30th? Or can they also be things we've made previously?

It is only for those projects completed during the challenge dates.

I don't often use my cutting machines to cut out the background design but in this case I did. I used one of the layered shapes (3 piece frame and mat set) to cut from two sheets of paper.

Not much die cutting here, just the small doilies that were cut with the Big Shot.

Here's a Father's Day card I made for DH. Lots of die cuts! I found all of the tool shapes online, sized and arranged them in a 5 x 7" format using Photoshop and printed that out on 80# white CS. Cut the shapes out with my Brother Scan 'n Cut, glued them to a base of the same white 80# CS with Tombow Liquid Glue (the green and white dual-ended one) and let that dry overnight. Brushed on Distress Inks for color and contrast, added some gold stars punched from mirror-board and adhered the sentiments with 3M foam tape. Attached the whole assembly to a 5 x 7" black card base with a tape runner. It didn't turn out quite like I had envisioned it originally but it was too late to start over and DH liked it a lot, which was really the most important thing.

Not often is there a page in my gallery with no pictures! It does still have lots of die cuts from the Silhouette store...

Same with this one. I changed one of the words in the original phrase to say what I wanted then added an offset layer for matting.
