We had a nice trip. DH got to see the USS Lexington finally. He was happy. He was a medic in the Navy and was Marine qualified and stationed with Marines as a Medic (Corpsman) for part of his service. His father was a Corpsman in the Navy too and he was on the USS Lexington. It would DH donated his father's uniform to the ship which is now a museum. He bought himself and his sister coffee mugs from the ship. We also visited Padre Island National Seashore and he got a coffee mug there as well. Then we drove around and I photographed more historical markers. I used my new D7200 and my 35mm 1.8 lens I've had for a while. I love it is such fast focus!! Monday we toured King Ranch a huge old famous ranch and then went to Segun and Gonzales for more markers. DH picked up a third cup at King Ranch. We got home at 830. I am sad though because my pillows got left at the motel. BooHoo, oh well I will replace them.
Lori, the ranger waits in a pullout until the bison gets there. The road is 2 lane, no shoulder so traffic also waits. ugh he is slow. We left a wide space between us and the car in front of us so the ranger would be able to guide the beast off the road, that meant he walked right in front of our car. So yeh, I was up close but not out on the road. Those things a giant, no way would I ever risk it, I am too much of a scaredy cat. lol
I don't have to pick Uriah up from school today, he's playing basketball w/ friends at a HUGE church that caters to the youth. I spent so much time on the phone today talking with his school counselor. ISTEP testing is this coming week, Uriah has yet to pass. It's such a stupid required state test that I believe they will be doing away with. Counselor said there is something new called Pathway that Uriah met the requirements for so he does not have to try to pass the test anymore. Whatever that means....he passed something that I didn't know what he was talking about and the fact that he is in a sport (means he can communicate with people.....OK) he's done. Fine. So the testing days next week he doesn't have to go to school. I printed out a form where he can job shadow his dad and be excused. I also spent a ton of time with the College Board people rescheduling his SAT. The last time he was scheduled he got a concussion just before and was not able to take it. I had to pay a small "late" fee but that's OK....he had a waiver to begin with for taking them.
Think we are putting a ham on the grill for dinner while it's not raining today. This weekend is supposed to be nasty!
Cops have been all over the neighborhood today. One group at a home down the road...the lady lived by herself and was OLD! I think she probably passed. The other group was all over the nasty hotel we have to pass coming in the neighborhood. Bet there was about 15 cops there....nothing out of the ordinary.
Did anyone see that house collapse in Pittsburgh today? WOW!!
JCI...11:30 and after my Dateline fix. I am really craving Taco Bell.....DH is willing to make a run. I think I should just go to bed, lol! (Bet I eat a taco or 2 within 1/2 hr....eeekkk).
Uman is spending the night with a teammate tonight. Tomorrow he is working at the rink for "Try hockey for free day".....helping kids that have never played. We volunteered last year and it was very fun! Home game tomorrow night also!
I love this one too. Its not everyday you see such a great leading line. The wood of the posts has been turned this great silver bluish grey from the mineral-laden steam. People were staring at me as I took this photo wondering why would I take a picture of the barrier posts. LOL They should see it then they would know why!
Oh I meant to tell you, I was downtown Houston, which is intimidating in of itself, but I was taking photos of the 1910 courthouse and the newer one too. There was group of young Hispanic and black guys skateboarding across the street where I wanted to stand. So I crossed the street and was taking the picture when one of them shouted at me, "HEY!" ut oh, but it was a photographer I had not seen and I thought I had gotten in his shot. He told me I needed to join them in some street photography. I declined and told him I taking photos of historical markers. He said, "Wait, what?" So I explained them to him and he stood there reading the marker about the founding of Harris County. He said, "Hey that is cool! I had no idea about these markers." I pointed out the old courthouse and he stood there looking at it and got the others looking at it too. They thought it was some cool architecture. Then I told them that I had been a skateboarded way back in the 1960s. What? They could not believe it. I told them about my board and how it had little metal wheels with no shocks, just fixed metal wheel, They were amazed that this old grey haired grandma had been a boarder before their parents were born. LOL I guess I schooled those boys. hehehe
Too funny Denise!!! I remember my old board....and NO helmet riding like a madwoman down a super steep hill in our neighborhood.
Anna....I have shelves finished in one set of my lockers. Nothing filling them just yet....waiting on the weather. DH is going to put them on a plywood platform with casters so I can move them when needed. I am still amazed just how heavy they are. I'm glad I am done with the clean up of them too. They sat for several years.
The kid is home the next 2 days on Dr orders, thank you, flu! He won't be going Thurs. or Fri either since it's the IStep testing day and he doesn't have to take it...he is using those days as excused for college visit/job shadowing days. This weekend is a big hockey weekend heading into the State Championship. I sure hope he is up to par by then!
