Journaling seems to be one of the most difficult parts of scrapbooking but one of the most important! If details aren't included on a layout, it's like finding a treasure trove of black and white photos only to discover that nobody took the time to record the people or the date on the back. I'm offering 12 different categories for different types of journaling techniques to start you hopefully thinking about adding the details.

This challenge may be combined with other challenges.

Category 1: List (List form, Bulleted, numbered, 5Ws + H (Who, What, When, Where, Why and How), whatever a list means to you). Just like making a weekly grocery list but way more fun!

Category 2: 50+ words. It's really not that hard once you start writing it down. Yes, seriously.

Category 3: Use a journaling card (like Project Life). C'mon, I know you have one or two sitting in your stash! Many of them even have journaling prompts.

Category 4: Journaling strips. This type of journaling adds details as well as an artsy feature! Add a whole story or just 3-4 short lines that contain the date, people, a short description of the event, and/or the location of the event (this is the perfect option for someone trying to get into the habit of journaling).

Category 5: Hidden journaling
. Some people aren’t comfortable with people seeing/reading their personal thoughts or people run out of room on a lo and include the journaling either on the back or under an element already on the layout. When posting your layout, if you don’t mind sharing the journaling, please post a pic with the journaling showing. This may give others ideas on where they can include journaling. If you don’t want to share, that’s ok too! Just tell us where it is.

Category 6: Handwritten journaling. Cursive or print, just do it!

Category 7: Write a letter to someone. It can be to yourself, someone you’ve never met, someone that has passed, someone you talk to every day, etc.

Category 8: Journal from another person’s point of view. Interview a child, ask your spouse/partner what they thought of a vacation, include old letters, use posts from other people’s facebooks pages, etc.

Category 9: Journaling around the border of the layout or around a picture.

Category 10: Journal in a different color other than black.

Category 11: Use digital journaling. Type your journaling and print it directly on the background or print it on something that is going to be adhered to a layout.

Category 12: Journaling prompts. Use any of these prompts to create a lo that uses any of the 11 categories above:
*Create a lo about Spring.
*Create a lo about any kind of fowl ie. chickens/ducks/flamingos/ birds in your yard/etc.
*Create a lo about your favorite color.
*Create a lo about a past or a future Spring Break vacation - some people travel, some people have staycations.

Dates to submit entries and join: 01-March-2019 through 31-March-2019

LINKING LAYOUTS TO THE THREAD:
1. Go to the layout in your gallery.
2. On the right hand side, under the "Add to Favorites" button there is a "Link" button. Click on "Link."
3. Click on 'IMG code' button.
4. Decide how big you want the lo to be presented. I usually use the 5th bubble for single page los and the 6th bubble for double page los.
4. Copy and paste the code which starts [url...] into the forum thread.

ALLOWING PUBLIC EMBEDDING:
1. Go to the layout in your gallery.
2. Click on 'Edit Image' tab at the top on the left side of the layout.
3. Scroll down to the bottom left side.
Check the box that says, ‘Allow Public Embedding’.

I couldn't let you down. How about you help me out for April? Think of 5 or more journaling prompts, PM them to me and I'll use your ideas (I'll credit you of course). You have a whole month to come up with them.

Maybe we can have an category of using more than 2 journaling cards on a layout!!

Happy Friday everyone! So here's the deal - I mailed out journaling cards to 4 people today and 1 other person requested them. I have 3 more full sets of the 3x4 cards from the Project Life Dreamy Edition kit that I will send out to the first 3 people that PM me. Just be sure you live in the US please. Anyone can request them whether you participated in this challenge last month or not.

My opinion is if you don't have any journaling - not even a name or date - then all you have is an overpriced photo mat. Personally, I think the stories are more important in most cases. Again, that is just my opinion which is why I started this challenge.

For category 1, I already had a journaling card with numbers on it, so I made a list of family who attended my nephew's graduation party. For example, 1 graduate, 2 proud parents, etc. I kinda fudged 3 because I couldn't come up with any more categories and couldn't remember how many non-family members were there (but it was at least three)!

My journaling was handwritten (category 6) on a journaling card (category 3). For all those ladies who have too many pocket journaling cards, here's an alternative use for them: all the rectangles with rounded corners are pocket cards that I cut up as design elements!

Just a heads up, I'm going to add a requirement to the challenge starting in April - there will be a 10 word minimum. I'm noticing that a few entries don't have any journaling (storytelling) on them. The 10 word minimum will at least allow folks to minimally include who, when and where on a lo. I apologize for the change but the whole point of this challenge is to include the details. If you have any questions, please ask!

For category 9, I wrote all around the border of my layout. It is just a repeat of some song lyrics that went with my theme, so I'm not sure it technically qualifies as journaling, but I certainly would not have thought to do it without this challenge!

For this one i used more than 50 words, and there is a date strip (not sure if that counts as a journal strip though)

the "sister" page to this also has another 50 words or so on it.

I'm really flattered that you all like this challenge so much! Love reading the journaling.

I'll have the April challenge up on Monday with a couple of changes to the rules.

Oh, and if anyone wants journaling cards, I still have a bunch! Just let me know.

50+ words
digital/typed
Different color than black
journaling card - but then I use a lot of things for journaling cards!!
half hidden LOL

It reads
This is the house that ******** grew up in with his six
sisters.I have heard plenty of stories over the years of
what fun times the kids had in that house. In
retrospect it was fun but at the time not all of it was.
I heard about the time the girls were jumping off the roof
into a blanket and they talked you into doing the same, only
that time they dropped the corner.
Then there was the time you sat out on the porch roof
during the hot summer nights. Or how you would get into
trouble as your mom could always tell which child got out
of bed when you were suppose to be sleeping!!
