Hey everyone! I haven't been on much, working on some stuff for the A Scrappin Friendsy website, and getting ready for all of my stuff at school.

Yeah, I think the fair starts this coming up week; my students have all been talking about going.

Sizzix is having a great 40% off sale this week. Check out the website. I just ordered another set of alphas, and a few other cheaper sets (for $12 each).

Angela, good luck with getting your house ready to rent. It sounds like you are going to have a busy weekend. At least your dogs will soon be back home with you. I bet you have missed them! The photos you posted in your gallery look great. Left some comments.

Thanks, Laura. We have the dogs here now! Unfortunately we have to go back down and let the neighbor watch out for them this weekend. I can't believe how much stuff I still had in the house!

At least it's cooling down this week! Hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the cooler temps!

How is everyone doing? I don't pop in much, but I do keep up with everyone's posts.

FYI - Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon off one reg. priced item -- it is their online coupon for this week.

Thanks Penny for the heads up. I spent all of my money on that Sizzix sale (sigh). We took my ds to the fair today, and he had a blast. This was really the first year he was big enough to ride some of the smaller kiddie rides. I also walked up the giant slide with him, and yeah, this 42 year old butt slid down that on an old sack, holding tight to my baby. I'll post a lo soon. It is pretty funny!

Just wanted to let everyone know that A Scrappin Friendsy is getting ready to have a month long cyber crop in honor of their 1st year. It is supposed to start Friday. There will also be a big birthday weekend, the last weekend of the month. There will be different prizes and games. Should be a lot of fun. Come join us any time this month.

Hi,
Just checking in. I just finished a swap, and I have started three others. These are so addictive! How is everyone? We took my sweet boy to the Fair a little over a week ago, and he had a blast! Did anyone else go?

Swaps are so addictive; I had gotten to a point where all I did were swaps and I never worked on my pages, so I had to stop!

Well, we didn't go to the fair, I am sure my kids would have loved it, but I just didn't feel like going.

You know, I noticed that all of my scrapbook time (which is limited) has been spent lately on doing these swaps. I probably need to concentrate on getting my photos in my scrapbook for a while. I am thinking about uploading to that other site sometime this week. If I get something done, I'll pm you, and let you know.

Help us make this happen!

Dear Scrapbookers,

One of our dear customers Amanda Allen, is faced with a task that I hope
most of use will never have to face. Her best friend Angela East of Mendenhall,
MS is dying of Cancer. The Cancer has already reached her brain. Angela has
asked Amanda to complete a scrapbook for her 10 year old son before she dies.

Amanda is overwhelmed with the box of pictures of the past ten years given
to her by Angela. To help Amanda out I'd like to ask those of you who can, to
donate pages or supplies to be used in Angles book. The pages and supplies
can be dropped off at Mississippi Paper Arts. If you'd like to purchase items to
donate Mississippi Paper Arts will be more than happy to offer you a
discount for those items. Details for the type of pages needed can be found in
our forum under the Benefit for Angela topic. More will be added this evening
or tomorrow

Friday night we will host a benefit crop for Angela at Mississippi Paper
Arts. Please join us in helping Amanda complete her friends dying wish.

Sincerely,
Carrie Ross

We have now set up a donation box through paypal. It can be found on our
home page. If there is any money left over after the album is complete we will
pass it on to her son. _www.mspaperarts.com_ (http://www.mspaperarts.com)

Hello everyone. Just thought I'd stop in and see how things are? I've been so busy with classes and holidays to have time for much else. Plus we found out we're moving to Germany in June. My family and I will be flying back in June to visit our family before we head over for 3 years.

Take care,

I just want to urge everyone here to support their LSS. I have a great one that I go to that stocks the latest pp (Junkitz, Chloe's Closet, Scrapworks, Scenic Route, just to name a few), as well as Bazzil cardstock, and hundreds of great embellies. However, due to competition from places like Hobby Lobby and many online vendors, LSS' such as this are in danger of going out of business. If you want to know the name of the LSS I go to, please pm me, and I will be glad to direct you that way. There are crops every Friday night, and a monthly Saturday meeting, as well as ongoing classes. This is a great way to get to know other scrappers in our community!

Just reply to the thread you want to subscribe. Don't do the quick reply, because that won't work. Below your reply will be an option to subscribe to the topic. You'll have to get instant email updates, at least until you disable that option in your detail of settings. After you submit your reply (with the subscribe option picked), you can find it and the others on your "favorites" list by going to My Settings, Control Panel, Subscribed Topics. Sheesh! Hey Guys,

I just wanted to share this letter with you.

Carrie
www.mspaperarts.com

There Are Angels Among Us

Hello, my name is Amanda Allen. Angela East was one of my oldest and best friends. In January of this year, Angela was diagnosed with cancer and passed away November 25, 2005. Several weeks ago I sat on her bed and explained how much I loved her and how I wanted her to beat the cancer that was so quickly taking her from us. But I could see that she was in so much pain and struggling to stay alive. I explained to her that I hated to see her in so much pain and as much as I wanted her here that it was ok for her to go home and be with Jesus. Angela then informed me that before she went, there were a few things she had to finish here on earth and she needed my help to do this. She asked that I take the pictures of her and her son and do a scrapbook of them for his 11th birthday, which was November 24th. My response was, "sure I can do that, no problem!" Little did I know that she was going to pull out 10 years of pictures. I knew then that there was no possible way that I could get this done alone. So I called the owner of Mississippi Paper Arts, Carrie Ross, and explained the task that had been given to me. I asked if she could help me with this. I then called all of Angela's friends and asked for their help as well. Mississippi Paper Arts held a benefit crop for Angela that started at 6:00 p.m. and lasted until 12:00 a.m. Her friends that attended were Loree Welch, Kelli Wallace, Carrie Sheppard & Betty Magee. Other people that attended were friends of friends Kathie Ward, Tricia Creason and the owner, Carrie Ross. Angela's Co Workers from the Simpson County Deptartment of Human Services and her best friend Christy Morgan also helped with this task. But what I find most amazing is that in a world filled with such violence, I realized that there are Angels among us and there are still people in this world with big hearts filled with lots of love for someone that they had never even met, people such as the owner of Mississippi Paper Arts, Carrie Ross, who contaced others by means of the internet. There were ladies who mailed pre-made pages from all over the USA to Mississippi Paper Arts. There were ladies that donated their time, money and supplies to make this possible.

On Cole's Birthday, I was there when Angela gave him these books. There was a book of just Angela, a baby book of cole and a book of Cole and his entire family. I can't explain the joy in her face when she gave those books to him and for an 11 year old boy. He carefully sat with his mom and together they looked at each and every page as she shared her memories of them.

Angela passed away the day after Cole's birthday. She held on for Cole so that she could give these books to him on his birthday. I want to say THANK YOU to all the ladies who helped and thank you to Mississippi Paper Arts for making this possible. I can't express to you how much this meant to Angela and Cole and what he now has to help him never forget the love his mom had for him.

I can't express the love I feel for each of you for doing this for me and my best friend. Thank you so very much and God bless each and every one of you. THERE ARE STILL ANGELS AMONG US!!!

Laura, the same to you!

I think DH and I are celebrating a quiet Christmas together up here. That'll be a first for us, but it's too hard to drive down and up in one day and he's retail so he has to work except Christmas Day.

I almost made it to your LSS! I wanted to so bad, but we ran out of time. DH was in Jackson for work then I drove down and picked him up to go to the family Christmas party in Columbia. We normally stick to the East side of the state to get home- taking Hwy 45 to Meridian. So we aren't normally over that way. Maybe next time.

I read about her trials and tribulations on another board. She lost her houses/everything when Katrina went through. They were about to move and had been building a new house and the hurricane got both houses. She had a lot of trouble, but a lot of people helped her through. She works with Chatterbox as a designer and they helped out; Epson sent her a printer, etc. There was also an article in one of the mags about her. They ended up moving to another state because of everything that happened. I can't remember exactly where though.

Good luck Laura on finishing everything! I went Tuesday and finished my list.

Then today, my DH asked me if I could just "whip" up something creative for some friends of ours and then he was like "oh, I need to get something for Carol (his secretary) also."

Well, luckily I had already picked up Carol a gift; why do me do this? The friends though is a different story; he told me he knew I would come up with something wonderful because I am so creative and talented, so I couldn't get mad!

Hey, Laura. Got a gift certificate to the LSS that is spent. I bought my first BG paper! and a MM foam stamp set - Gabby. Not too much really, but DH went over budget as usual. Ugh!

How about you?

Let me know how you like the foam stamp set. I have been wanting to try those, but just haven't gotten around to doing that yet. I went so far as purchasing some small bottles of acrylic paint a few months back, and have done nothing with them. My sil bought me a regular wood block stamp set that has a bunch of different sayings, such as "Thank You", "Congratulations", etc., so those will be nice for cards. I received a couple of computer programs for scrapbooking from my dh. He does tech support for a living, so he is always interested in anything related to computers. I think he would love for me to cut down on my pp and gadget stash, but I don't see myself converting to digi entirely any time soon. I am too much of a tactile person, and I like to feel and work with the paper, fiber, etc.
Well, I am actually headed north tomorrow, as me and the hubby are planning on being in Memphis for New Year's Eve. Have a great weekend everyone!!

Organization would be really nice! I really want to scrap more pages in 2006 than I did in 2005. I changed my style a bit in 2005, and I now add more embellies and trimming than I used to, so pages take me a little longer to finish. I really don't have a scrap space, so when I am working, it is on the dining table, and all my things are just scattered everywhere. Maybe I if I can get my stuff organized, it will be easier to not make such a mess.

Well, I did not get to go to the crop as planned. My ds was sick this past week, and we had to take him back to the dr. on Saturday. The problems he was having on Wednesday had developed into pneumonia, and he is now taking breathing treatments every 4 hours, along with an antibiotic 2 x per day, and a steriod 2 x per day. More poor baby was really sick, but today he is already feeling better. His sinuses were in such bad shape yesterday, that his eyes were almost closed. Those eyes are almost back to their normal almond shape now.

I took my tree down today, but only because my husband was determined it would happen. I hate that chore, although it is nice to have the living room almost back to normal again.

How was everyone's weekend?

Welcome, Sherry! I'm up north a bit--near Tupelo.

Hey, Laura! I'm so sorry your son has been sick. Hope he is all well now. Glad to see someone else just now taking down there tree. I've got to go down to the storage shed and get the decoration boxes and take ours down this week before school starts. We've been too busy since Christmas and I don't like to let go of the tree anyway. I took down the wreaths outside yesterday...babysteps!

Wow, I have no idea where the time has gone. We didn't even decorate for Christmas this year because over our Christmas vacation we moved into our house. I still haven't unpacked everything but things are slowly finding a home. I've been kind of overwhelmed by all the boxes, painting, etc. that has to be done. Trying to concentrate on one room at a time. Hope to get some scrapping done soon.

Congrats Kristen on the new house. I cannot imagine moving into a new house during the holidays. Good to hear from you again!

Hello, everybody!!! I am a newbie around this board, but I just saw the Mississippi thread and wanted to join in.

My name is Heather, and I live in northeast Mississippi - Belmont to be exact. We're about 45 minutes from Tupelo. My husband and I have been married nearly 9 years and have 3 kitties & a boxer. They're our kids!

If you're in the area, holler...I'm going to start hosting monthly crops and would love to have a larger group there!

Thanks everyone! It was hectic - but it was also perfect timing b/c it was when dh, me, my parents, and his parents all had the week between Christmas and New Years off. That allowed us to get a ton of cleaning and painting done before we moved in. Still have a lot to do, but it's getting there.

Heather - the monthly crop sounds like a wonderful idea! Unfortunately, I'm to far away. So glad you joined our thread though!

Hi Heather, and welcome!! I think Angela might live somewhere in that area. I don't get up that way very often, but if I do, I will let you know. I am in Jackson (well, I work in Jackson, and live in Florence). A monthly crop sounds like a ton of fun though. Maybe we could do a cybercrop? I have seen those hosted by a LSS. I have never actually done one before, but Heather might let us know when she is having her crop, and we could just join in via the internet. What does everyone think?

Welcome Heather.

Laura, it sounds fun. Also, right now, ASF is having a month long cybercrop if anyone wants to join in.

Heather pm'd me...imagine that---now I have a neighbor here within an hour or so of the house. I did an online crop here once, it was fun. But you can't share stuff that way.

No school on Monday for me either! But 1st day back is Tuesday...ugh, the nervous anticipation of new classes. I think I forgot everything over Christmas break....I'm too old for school!

Hope your weekend has been fantastic too! I've gotta go do some cleaning, studying and scrapping!!

HIYA MISSISSIPPIANS!
I am new around here, and I am so excited to see such a popular Mississippi thread. I am in Horn Lake, MS (just south of Memphis, TN) and I know NO scrappers! My one friend who scraps just moved down Tupelo way.
I am kind of a loner when it comes to scrapping, but I was hoping to change that this year. I have made a resolution to attend a crop. To branch out a bit. Make some friends. I hope I can get to know all you Mississippi Girls (I haven't read through all the posts so I hope I am not leaving out any guys )

Welcome to the thread, Carrie! I'm near Tupelo.

I don't really 'know' any sbers either. I've been thinking of going to a crop here in Tupelo, but I'm shy around a bunch of people I don't know. Guess I'm a lone scrapper like you.

Hi Carrie J!!! So glad you found us!!! I'm in central MS so if you're ever down towards Jackson let me know! One of my roomies from college was from (I hate it when I can't remember what I'm trying to say - it wasn't Horn Lake but one of the others right there). She wasn't into scrapping and is now in IL though so that doesn't help you any.

Let me know how you like the foam stamp set. I have been wanting to try those, but just haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

Hey, Laura. Well you saw them in my gallery already I guess...but I like them alright. It's great that you can use the acrylic paint with them---cheaper to get a variety of color than buying inkpads. They are a little hard to line up. I have to put my head on the table. DH says I should unmount them...don't know if I can cut them up though!! But for ten bucks for the stamps and a fifty cent bottle of acrylic they are a pretty handy thing to have I think.

Just wanted everyone to know I went by Michael's after work on Friday, and it had several dollar bins with great deals. I found mini album kits, multiple stamps, cute embellies, and tons of ribbon. Yep, I went a little crazy.

I went in there to get the Slab 6 for a tag swap (on sale for $10). Well I was able to find all sorts of stuff to embellish those cute Rob and Bob pp with, so I am all excited now.

If anyone is interested in joining our swap, it is not due until March 1. These tags should be super cute, and I know the scrappers who have signed up so far, and they do awesome work!

I'm jealous!! No Micheal's up here. I went to HL here, but forgot to look at the ribbon that was 1/2 off. I bought two more Tim Holtz distressing pads for 2.50 each---peeled paint and old paper! and a baby stamp that was half off. Didn't have time or money to do much more damage.

Greta, how is your family coping after Katrina? Are things anywhere close to getting back to normal on the Coast?
