Journaling:

This ceramic duck was Zachary's present to me, through a gift bazaar at the Rawdon District School in December, 2006 in grade Primary. Every child contributed gifts suitable for adults and children, in accordance to the number of immediate family members. Each class then went to the gymnasium on the day of the bazaar, and chose gifts of their preference, for the recipients. It is then wrapped for the child and sent home, to await the opening of it on Christmas day.

I can still remember Zachary's excitement that day in December, when he arrived home at 3:00 pm. He literally ran off of the bus and all the way into the house. First words out his mouth were” Mummy, I have a present for you”! “Can I tell you what it is”? “You want to open it now”? I managed to calm him down and explain that I'd like to wait until Christmas to open it. Somehow, with sheer determination, he was able to wait out the week, until the time had finally arrived to open the gift. We have a tradition of opening one gift on Christmas Eve, so I opened Zachary's gift at that time. I rewarded him with a big hug and kiss, to let him know how much his gift was loved and appreciated.

It is now five years later and I still have this duck in my possession. It resided in my bathroom for a number of years, but has recently moved into my scrapping room. Every time I glance at that duck, it is a reminder of how quickly the last five years have passed us by, and how much you have matured intellectually during that time. I have received many other gifts over the remaining years, and have cherished them all.
