Aww, Yaay! So glad to see you saved & re-used the crocheted flower on this page where it totally fits perfectly! The dress form is also a nice addition to this LO, but my fav part is the border of stitched hearts along the bottom. Love-lu job w/sketch #10 my friend!! : )
Pat first this layout is gorgeous and you're lucky to have this lovley photo of your mother doing what she loves. Your layout is beautiful...I love the story and the design and those adorable stitched hearts. My mom sew clothes for her and my and my sister too and I totally understand how you felt..I so wanted store bought clothes and it wasn't until in my freshman year that some girls told me how lucky I was to have one of a kind clothes that I really started to appreciate it...for my Senior ball I got my dream dress from a store but she made a magnificent fully lined floor length satin coat to match. Unique!!!..felt like Audrey Hepburn..guess what...no pics...my date was late and no time for pics with the coat..sigh.
oh Pat I love that you stitched on this layout and all the wonderful embellishments. I think it is lovely that you got a picture of your Mom at her machine to help you cherish those memories!
Pat, this is stunning! I love what you did with the folk hearts. I have that same punch, and I never thought to add stitching or distressing or anything to make "folksier". The dress form is perfect. Into the "faves". And btw, my mom sewed all my clothes growing up and I felt the same way about them. They were gorgeous and one of a kind...which is exactly what I didn't love about them. :( I wish she was here to make clothes for Nina. And I know she would SOOOO get into scrapping if she was alive.
This is so lovely - I especially love the ends you left dangling from the stitching - a small detail that fits this theme so perfectly. My mom made all my Halloween costumes and many of my semi-formal dresses for college dances - it was wonderful. I made all Cassie's Halloween costumes, but I don't have the skill to tackle something as important as a dress for a date, so I really appreciate that level of talent. I have some LO's about sewing in the queue somewhere so I'm saving this one to faves!
Gorgeous lo and beautiful story behind it! I love the stitched hearts along the bottom and the dressform is amazing! I can relate to your story also. My mom made alot of my clothes and she never considered herself talented so the clothes were pretty plain. Except for one hot pants outfit she made but I got in trouble from the school for wearing it! I wish I had a photo of mom at her sewing machine.
This is gorgeous Pat! And I can so relate to your story! My Mom made most of my clothes too. And like yours, they were one of a kind! And like your Mom, my Mom still mends some but she doesn't sew us clothes anymore. What I'd give to have one more outfit made by Mom!
My mom used to stitch frocks for me till I was 3 years old. She was able to stitch a few dresses for my dd. She went through some major eye surgery recently but is still able to stitch. You have given me an idea for a page. Love the dress form & everything else hee.
love how your title and the dress form are perfect for this lo; isn't it wonderful to have pictures of the day-to-day memories? I just realized, I have no picture of my mother sewing, and she sewed most of my clothes while I was in elementary.
My entire life growing up, my mom sewed clothes for me and my sister. She was amazingly talented, and I had one of a kind outfits, one of a kind prom dresses, one of a kind pajamas.
The problem with being one-of-a-kind is when you're in middle school, you kind of want to look like everyone else. I'm sure I hurt her feelings more than once before I was smart enough to realize how lucky I was to have such a talented personal tailor, but she never let on.
I don't have any photos of her at her sewing machine from those days - but this past summer I caught her at work mending. That's about all she uses her machine for now-days.
For the 30-Day Sketch Challenge Sketch #10
I recycled the crochet flower and yellow roses vine from my first version of Follow Your Dreams. I did a Do-Over of that project and these florals were left over so I put them to use on this layout. The dress form is by Dusty Attic, colored with Lindy's Stamp Gang Silhouette Silver Moonshadow Mist.
