Hi Maureen, ooh, the story touches my heart, I'm such a dog (pet) person. My Damien, is really almost human in my mind : ) As soon as I saw this pic, I realized who Chester is. Another one of the "Scrappin Goldens" from "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Vija did such a beautiful job on it, I feel honored she put Damien in it. Gale, another wonderful lady, who does wonderful cards, suggested i check out your sweet layouts. What a great site, I've met so many great people. Your work is beautiful. What a beautiful little girl, She must be your main scrapping subject : ) Have a great weekend, it's almost here! Lynn
What an amazing story, Sweet chester breaks my heart.. he is such sweet dog.. Chester will never forget those he loves.. It is so touching.. how pets can love us unconditional, I can tell how my dogs feel about me just the way they look at me..
Chester is so lucky to have a wonderful and loving owner like yourself.. Awesome picture.. thanks for sharing this touching and wonderful part of your's and Chesters life.. please give Chester a great big hug for me..~Gale~
that is sooo sad!! sweet, but sad!! it's making my eyes sting! Everyday Petie does something so.....well, Petie-ish and I wish he had a thought bubble over his head like a cartoon!!
What a sad story for such a beautiful picture! It just breaks my heart to read how animals react when their "owners" leave them! Thank goodness he has you to love him, and I hope that someday he'll forget his other's and love just you!
Oh, Chester! That journaling is just heartbreaking! He's obviously being loved (and loving back) in his new home, but how bittersweet for him to come back to his old home. Poor baby! Has he seen everyone since he moved in with you? He's so lucky to have you in his life...kiss him behind his ears for me-I love that spot on doggies!
Oh dear, you brought me to tears. Wouldn't you love to know what was going through his little mind. Thanks for sharing this story with us. We are all in love with Chester.
Bawwww-uw-uw-uw!!! (me crying) That IS the sweetest, saddest thing ever!!! Your title is heart-wrenching after reading your description. Makes me want to run home and hug my babies and say "I"m right here, I'll never leave you!!" This photo is amazing and the LO possiblities -- endless!! I like Tikadawn's comment: nostalgic. Thats a cute way to think of it!! Aren't they just amazing little fuzzy things??!!

OMGosh - by the time I got finished reading your jouyrnaling, I had goose bumps all up and down my arms!!! I was thinking ... I'm so glad you didn't abandon him. This is so touching and sweet. And the picture speaks all by itself. So glad you had your camera!!
Oh, Maureen.....My Lizzie's little mini dachshund does exactly the same thing when he gets near our home. He lived with us for ten months when he was about a year old, and it was a special time for all of us. We enrolled him in obedience training at the local pet store and helped him fit in every way we could. Even now, when he is in the car, as he approaches our home, he whines and messes up the window with his wet little nose. He gets so excited to be here again, for a visit. I, too, find it amazing that they remember directions to a place and people they love, even though it can be hundreds of miles and years away, they know EXACTLY where they are! Also, that they seem to know instinctively, when their loved ones are coming home. I'm so glad that Mr. Chester has such a loving caring person as you! I think you're BOTH BLESSED TO HAVE EACH OTHER!
awwww, what a bittersweet story, Maureen! Our cat, who we lost 5 days before Christmas, used to wait for us at the door....even though our return time varied! She would be there! How???I hope the house sells~
Aw, Maureen, my heart aches for both you and Chester! The photo just melts my heart! I wonder, too, what he was thinking as he roamed through an empty house. I think your conclusion was perfect. The one thing I know for sure is that Chester is not lacking a thing in his life. He's well-loved and you care for him exquisitely. In turn, he is your faithful companion and comfort, with the mutual bond of missing the kids. How wonderful that you have each other!! I'm sure Chester didn't bat an eye when it was time to leave Medford. He knew he wasn't being abandoned and that there were treats at your house!
I get teary every time I look at this picture of Chester. I took it last weekend when I was in Medford (So. Oregon)
As many of you know, my kids (Ryan, Kelli & Cupcake) moved from Medford to Indiana a little over a year ago. They left behind a sweet, charming home which, unfortunately, still stands UN-SOLD at this time. The housing/economic outlook in Medford is still not good. They've had renters in the house up until last week and will now try one more time to sell it.
Anyway, spent last weekend painting, cleaning and doing overall sprucing up to get it ready to put it back on the market. I took my Mom with me as well as sweet Chester boy.
He hasn't been at this house for over a year but, his reaction as we were about 2 blocks from the house was amazing. He started pacing and jumping around in the back of my car. As we pulled into the garage, he was almost out of control. I got him out of the car and into the house and he bee-lined for what was the kid's bedroom. He sniffed and sniffed and paced and wagged his tail and went over every inch of that bedroom and the walk-in closet. He then ran out and past me to the living room (the picture here) and sat right down and looked longingly out the window....a couple times resting his sweet mug on the window sill. He used to sit and gaze out the window like that waiting for Ryan to come home from work.
On this day, he would sit at the window for a while and then wander back to the bedroom....back out to the window and back to the bedroom. This went on for almost our first hour in the house....it was the sweetest yet saddest thing I've seen. Made me bawl.
You hear these stories about pets who are lost or left behind and weeks or months later they show up, having found their people. Chester was sure looking for his people....I wonder so much, what he was thinking. Watching him, all I could imagine or hear in my heart was him thinking...."I'm here but, where are you?"
