Hidden Journaling: When you have family that lives in four different states like mine does it is an unfortunate reality that you will only get to see them two or three times a year. Of course, with email and Facebook it is easier than ever to stay in touch with them but that is nothing close to being able to spend actual time together. This is even more of a case when we are talking about the children in the family. They grow and change so quickly that it is hard to recognize them each time we do get together. Take my now 2 year old niece Scarlett for example. In January I got to see her at our annual family reunion in Iowa and at 18 months old she was walking and running and playfully interacting as expected for an 18 month old. Fast forward to our vacation to Missouri in July and my now fully 2 year old niece had turned into a small adult! Her vocabulary had exploded with new words and you could clearly understand each one! She was drawing and writing legibly, pointing out her favorite things in books and telling you what they were! Even her facial expressions and her emotions were so developed that it was hard for me to keep in mind that she was only 2! With these drastic changes it was harder than ever to have to head back home because I felt like the next time I saw her she would be wearing a cap and gown and heading off to some farther away college. I couldn't feel more pride in seeing my Little Miss Smartypants becoming such an amazing child but my loving Aunt's heart breaks that I can't be there to watch it happen more. Aunt Andrea loves you Scarlett Ezra!
