The entire two-page layout of our first attempt to "make" a gingerbread house.

Journaling:
This year, Savannah, Carson, and I decided to decorate our first GINGERBREAD house as we celebrated the Christmas season. I took a “shortcut” and bought an inexpensive kit at WalMart that included the pre-cut pieces, ready-made icing, and plenty of colorful CANDY! I carried it home with excitement and plans for a quick evening of fun and entertainment. However, my plans were quickly blown aside: one side of the house fell off each time I attached another, the icing hardened before all of the sides were together, the kids wanted to use all the candy on one side of the roof, and we ended up running out of icing! But despite all these obstacles (and with a little help from an increasing sugar buzz!) we finally managed to produce a pretty cute house, 2 little men, and a tree to stand in the front “yard.” And as I watched my kids SHARING and LAUGHING and HELPING each other for this one rare moment, I knew it was a memory well worth all the trouble it took to create. Perhaps we have started a new family TRADITION!
