Journaling: The idea was simple enough. i was put in charge of the Christmas gift giving exchange this year. i thought i'd shake things up and introduce a new concept to the family. we would all bring gifts and do a Chinese gift exchange. we would choose a gift, and if we chose to, we could exchange it for someone else's. there were rules, of course, but the idea was to create a bit of excitemnt at the gathering. well, let me tell you, there was excitement all right! when David opened his gift, Susie and Eva's eyes lit up and i thought WW III was going to start. It was a lawn ornament and both of them wanted it badly. Eva took it from David, and Susie took it from Eva. Oooh, the name calling, the dirty looks. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. i was going to settle the matter by taking it from both of them. that was my intent until i opened my gift. it was a needlepoint sampler made by my sister, Rosie. i could not give it up, and the lawn ornament faded from my mind. i thought i was safe until Mary's turn came up. How could she? she didn't give it a second thought as she took my sampler from me! Oh, the name calling, the dirty looks. Hoisted on my own petard! There were some who enjoyed this form of gift giving, others were downright hostile! :) i wonder if they'll ever give me this duty again?
