Also from my father's family history scrapbook. At the time this was as far back as we could directly trace his family; I've since found a bit more information. A stop at the local genealogy library confirmed this was where Lt. John was buried. He and his brother were quite the characters, though I suppose you had to be when you were some of the first white men on the western side of the Appalachains. I had to be rather creative in my "pictures" depicting him. The card at top asks: Who is the only man in WV history known to have dug his own grave and built his own coffin? The answer would be Andrew Stalnaker, who built the coffin and dug the grave for Lt. John White, but was killed himself before the Lt.'s body could be recovered and brought bacik.
