Journaling: Each year, the Rhode Island Philharmonic has a free concert at Slater Park in Pawtucket, followed by fireworks over the lake. It's a nice end-of-summer event, and we try to make it every year. Though the event has remained virtually unchanged, our experience has changed dramatically. I can't believe that just three years ago, my husband and I sat quietly in the audience and listened to the whole show, then snuggled up together for the fireworks. This year, with two little kids, we spent most of the time on the merry-go-round. This was perfectly fine with us. We got to watch their faces of delight fly by and I got a few cute pictures. Someday, though, I'd like to go back on that lawn and listen to the whole show. Maybe in a few more years that will happen. Until then, it's all about the amusement rides.
