In one of the most anticipated weddings, O(+> married Mayte at the Park Avenue United Methodist Church on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, February 1996, at 3:00 p.m. They avoided the glare of the 300 fans and reporters present by arriving and leaving via a specially constructed tunnel of white fabric that connected their white limousine to the church.

The rock musician, who maintains a home and studio in the Minneapolis area, arrived at the church by a back door and disappeared inside as aides held up a sheet to hide him from the curious.

The symphony, Kamasutra, written by O(+> expressly for Mayte and their wedding, was performed by the NPG Orchestra and played as the guests were welcomed into the ceremony.

The private ceremony was officiated by Rev. Keith Johnson, and was attended by a small group of family members. The bride's mother, Nelle Garcia, preceded 7 flower girls down the aisle. Long-time friend of O(+>, Kirk Johnson, served as the best man and the bride's sister, Janice Garcia, served as the maid of honor. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father, Ret. Major John Garcia.

Mayte wore a long-sleeved drop waist white dress, which she designed with O(+>'s wardrobe designer Bonnie Flesland. The dress was crystal encrusted and backless with a high low skirt. In her hair was a flower crown with a veil attached at the back.

A new song 'Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife' written by O(+>, was played twice during the ceremony as both recited their own vows to each other.

As they exchanged vows, Mayte held a O(+> necklace. One published report had quoted Mayte as saying that she would wear a necklace bearing her new husband's symbol so that when the vows were recited she would point to the O(+> and to her fiancé instead of uttering a name at the ``I do take --- for my husband'' part of the ceremony.

The couple was pronounced man and wife at approximately 3:42 p.m. The bride will retain her maiden name, Garcia, followed by O(+> for The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds departed in a white limousine for the reception. When they left, a member of the wedding party opened the door of a cage on the church lawn releasing a flock of doves into the sub-freezing air.

Following the intimate ceremony, they held a private gathering in a small room with four tables at Paisley Park where they cut the cake and fed it to each other, then danced to the new song once again. The lyrics of 'Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife,' were unveiled to bride Mayte for the first time, as her groom escorted her onto the dance floor for their first dance as man and wife. This song cannot be released to the public because of contractual restrictions between Warner Bros. Records and The Artist Formerly Known As Prince.
