Based on a PageMaps sketch from May 2010. Mama loved to cook, and she did it well. This picture brings back so many memories… between the hallway and the oven hung the spice rack that Daddy made for Mama, she was so proud of it. I remember it being full of McCormick spices. She thought they were more flavorful as well as more economical. Above the spice rack was a skillet shaped clock; many times after washing it the numbers would have to be repainted. Mama bought jello molds here and there and hung them on the cabinet doors all around the kitchen. The oven and stove were gas appliances which had to be lit with matches. The oven had two sections; a large oven and a small (6-8 inch high) broiler which was perfect for toast and the last couple of minutes of the biscuits. The appliances and sink were the avacado green which was very popular in the 60’s and 70’s.
There was a note on the back of this picture saying it was taken on Christmas day. Mama was about 40 when this picture was taken. I’ve figured that out because the highchair had to be mine because everyone else was too old for one when the trailer was bought, and Daddy took the picture, and he left in ’73 or ’74.
