This is the home that my family lived in for many years. It has now stood for over 100 years and undergone many changes, but it holds many memories. As an aside, the photos are not crooked, it's my photography ~

The house was built on what was originally called Lincoln Street in Astoria, New York. My maternal grandmother lived here in the late 1880's. Her family moved away, but when she and my grandfather got married in about 1916, they purchased it. I think that the top picture dates from this era. My mother and uncle were born here in 1917 and my mom lived here until she got married in 1941. The middle two pictures were taken in 1935. At some time during this period, the street was renamed 31st Road and Astoria became part of Long Island City.

At first my parents lived in an apartment, but in 1943, when I was about six months old, my parents moved back to this house. We lived upstairs and my grandparents and my uncle lived downstairs. After my grandmother died in 1947, we moved to the lower half and my grandfather and uncle moving upstairs. I lived here until 1949 when I was almost 7, and my parents bought their first house.

My grandfather sold the house sometime in the early 50's. I took the last picture in 2001 when I was visiting New York and took my uncle and my godmother on a nostalgia tour.

I put my journaling in the pocket envelope behind the star. I used some old G 45 Domestic Goddess for my pp. I wanted to try using molding paste, so I selected the black Kaisercraft Pickled Pear for my background and the Crafter's Workshop mini brick template. Although you can see that I did use the molding paste and the brick template, I got carried away, as usual, and most of it got covered up. I added some painted corrugated cardboard and some burlap to give it more of a rough aged look, and then added some stitching to the edge with my Sew Easy tool.
