There are over 23,000 petroglyphs in this park dating from 1000 BCE to 1700CE They were carved by the ancient Puebloans. They lived not far from the lava escarpment on which all the glyphs were carved. The array of styles, types, sizes and meanings of the glyphs is amazing.
