Journaling: Only those closest to my father know the scary truth, he is a little crazy – a bit bananas about fruit. If you lose him in a grocery store, it is a sure bet that you can find him in the produce section, sniffing out the best deals, the ripest melons, the juiciest fruit. He uses his special fruit sense – a tap or a knock on the ring – a shake or a sniff at the stem. He knows every trick to picking out the most delicious piece of cantaloupe, the sweetest apple, the firmest grape. It is probably a rare talent gleaned from years of work in his large and productive garden. We think it is cute. December 2005.
