beautiful tree and moss! chiggers are nasty little bugs that you don't see or feel crawling on you until they have found what is nice comfy spot to them usually around a waistband or some other place where clothing fits closely, (underwear) then they bit or burrow in and produce an itch that makes you want to scratch through every layer of skin..I'm sure some one could post a more scientific description but you get the idea.
so that's what it looks like "fresh". the only Spanish moss I've seen comes in plastic bags in the craft section of the stores. What exactly is a chigger?
A close up of the oak tree showing the Spanish Moss that grows down here in Florida. Its much thicker than northern varieties I have seen. Crackers used to use it to stuff matresses ( and sometimes furniture). It works well for a mulch for bulbs too. one must gather it off the trees only. Moss off the ground has chiggers. OUCH!
