Photo taken for the Photo-A-Day Challenge. Mini-Challenge #11 "A Favorite Recipe". I grew up with this salad and now make it for my own family during the holidays. I know this recipe from memory and don't have it written down hope I did o.k.

7-Layer Salad

lettuce
½ cup chopped celery
16 oz bag frozen peas
mayonnaise
sugar
8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
bacon bits

In a 13” X 9” pan place a single layer of lettuce. Sprinkle chopped celery over the lettuce. Pour frozen peas over lettuce and celery. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise over the peas, not too thick, you should be able to see top of peas through the mayonnaise. Sprinkle a very thin layer of sugar over the mayonnaise, then the shredded cheese then the bacon bits. ( I prefer the soft bits not the crunchy, I use Hormel Real Bacon Bits) Cover and place in the refrigerator overnight or prepare in the morning for an evening meal. Peas must have adequate time to thaw.
