Beautiful journaling and so tragic. I am sorry for your family's loss. It must be difficult to process. The layout itself is lovely. I really like the frame within the frame on the family photo. It makes the impact sadder, which, I think is the point....I think it is wonderful that you are sharing this message through your layout. I think it is important to talk about such things and to educate. You've done a beautiful job with that here.
Thank you for doing this LO on such a painful subject. *HUG* I can't imagine how hard it must have been, yet hopefully also somewhat therapeutic. Have you thought about asking to have it displayed in a LSS?
I am so sorry to hear about your nephew's daughter's death. It grieves me to see that people are playing games like this and thinking that there are no consequences. I will definitely spread the word. This layout is so wonderful because it shows just how close to home it can get. Thanks so much for sharing.
I'm very sorry for your loss. What a horrible thing to happen. I've never even heard of this "game" but that is so awful. I was sitting here in awe as I was reading this. It's important to try and get the word out about things like this, and I think you've accomplished that. This page definitely shows how this tragic event has affected you and your family. TFS. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I have never heard of this before, but I agree that it is not a game and indeed very dangerous. I'm sure that your sharing this will inform others, as it did me, about this awful "game." By sharing this you have saved lives. People will discuss this with their families, friends, neighbors, and so on. TFS. The journaling, the clock, the title all get the point across nicely. The way you edited the photo is a great way to get the point across as well; it shows the affects of this "game" on your family. My thoughts are with you and your family.
I agree. it's very important to talk to children. One day I was watching Oprah and this was the topic. As soon as I saw it I called my 14 year old DD out to watch it with me even though she didnt want to. This was very brave of you.
beautiful journaling on such a heart-wrenching topic. I thank you for informing me of this danger, the LO is lovely, the pp really infuse a softness to the tone of your journaling. I really love how you edited the photo, a wonderful way of showing how the family is changed by the death of a child.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family. This is such a tragedy and bless your heart for making a lo about it. What a hard lo this must have been for you to make. The picture alone gets the point across.
I am truly sorry for what you're family have been through. It is just unbelievale to think that kids practice this game not knowing the consequences. What a great thing you are doing here, helping spreading the word so that hopefully one day, no more kids will be playing this fatal game.
I think that this is a great page to inform others about the dangers.
Another note is I like how you framed her in the picture and made her black and white and left the rest colored.
Thanks for sharing.
I am so sorry for you loss - I remember this being around when I was in elementary school - thanks for sharing. Very moving LO. I just want to comment on how you added the frame to her photo - draws you right to her beautiful face - great touch
I am so sorry for your loss... I have read about this game before and it is just so sad that they think something like this is just a game... your layout is beautiful and your message powerful.
I am so sorry for your families loss. The idea of this is just crazy. I remember hearing about it a few years ago and talking to both my kids to make sure they understood how horrible it could end up. Good for you, for helping to spread the word. And your layout is beautiful.
I am so sorry this happened in your family. I have heard of this for years and was saddened to hear that it has become the "thing" to do again. The lo is beautiful!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us and I am so sorry for the loss of that beautiful life. I will be talking to my boys about this when my husband get home this afternoon. Thank you again!
I am so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for getting this out there for all of us. Your layout is beautiful, and she was a lovely young lady. My thoughts are with you.
Sue, first, so sorry for your loss. Has this lo been published? If not, PLEASE submit it to as many journals as you can. I think this is a great way to inform parents of this tragic "game". I am a peds RN, and know all too well the heartbreak that can evolve from an "innocent" peer-pressured activity. Thanks so much for sharing. Healing hugs......
This brought tears to my eyes and gave me goosebumps. I'm so so sorry for your loss. Such a tragic shame. I have 2 kids and never heard of this. I talk to my kids about everything...will have a chat with my 13 year old as soon as I get home.
I am so very sorry! I will talk to my 13 year old granddaughter tomorrow! I had no idea!
Your Lo is very touching and informative and I am grateful that you are spreading the news of this terrible "game".
how horrible. Children just do not realize how precious life is and how easily it can be taken away by one wrong decision. Your sharing this experience will help others. God Bless.
I am so sorry for your very tragic loss! I can only imagine the heartbreak! This is an amazing layout with an amazing message. I think the photo looks very powerful with the girl in black & white and framed and the rest of the people in color. I hope your layout reaches thousands of families!
I' SORRY FOR YOUR LOST,I' SEEN THIS ON ONE OF THE TALK SHOWS AND WAS SHOCKED.I' HAVE KIDS AND GK.MY HEART GOES OUT YOUR FAMILY AAND ALL THE FAMILY WHO HAS LOST A CHILD TO THIS .
Thank you so much for sharing this. It is certainly something to really watch for now in and out of the schools. The LO is beautiful -- I love what you did with the picture and matting of it.
Amazing LO under such terrible circumstances. I also had never heard of this before. You are brave to have undertaken a LO to express your feelings and get the information out there. So sorry for your loss.
Oh my, I've never heard of this "game" before. I've just had a word with my boys and showed them your page. Thank you for doing such a great service giving a valuable information to everyone through your great memorial LO. I am truly sorry for your tragic loss.
OMG! So sorry for your loss.
I never knew of this horrible game, and I will be spreading the word to other parents at the school
My heart goes out to you and your family.
I have a friend who's neighbor child died of this same thing.. and of course it is like you stated alone in his room... truly sad and children really do need to know that the outcome can and has been death..... great lo, although as sad as it is it a great way to let others at least on this site know of such things.... sorry for your loss to such a thing that could have been prevented.. and the sad thing is, is that it is usually young children. great job on sharing this.. thank you, truly unfortunate... she was beautiful...
I have heard of this & I am so scared. These kinds of games start as jokes but people don't realise it. I have a 4 year old & I want to make sure he is given the right education right now. Never too early to start. I am sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you & your family.
I can't imagine how painful this has been for you and your family. My heart goes out to each of you and I am so very sorry for the loss of this dear child.
I have never heard of this before now- And, I thank you so much for sharing something so raw and painful that just may help save lives.
wow this really caught my eye. I have heard of space monkey. People were doing it back when i was in grade school. What a terrible thing for her family to go through. I'm sorry for your loss. TFS.
OMG, Sue...I don't know how I missed this valuable and memorable layout! I am so very sorry for your loss! I must be living in a bubble, b/c I didn't even know about this! Thank you for the eye-opener, and for the links! My sincerest condolences to you and your family!!!
I'm so sorry - this is such a tragedy & is happening to kids who are so young...truly frightening & needs to be talked about more. I'll check out the petition. My thoughts are with your family, especially at this time of year.
I am so sorry for your families loss. Thanks also for bringing awareness to this horrible game - I had never heard of it before. I am going to have a talk with my kids tonight when they get home from school to make sure that they know that this is not a game.
God Bless you and your family!
Wow I am so sorry for your loss and all those affected by this loss. I have heard of this and it is so sad. Bringing awareness to this is such a great idea. Thank you and I am sure there are a lot of others who thank you too so they know this danger is out there.
This is so sad... what a beautiful girl and family in the photo... I have heard of this but haven't yet talked to my boys about it... I will now for sure!!!
I can't even imagine the pain your family must feel, especially knowing that this didn't have to happen. I was aware of this but I think I may have only casually talked to my boys about this. That will change tonight. God Bless you all with a peace to help you through this time.
Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone. I have never heard of this and I have 3 children. I try to stay informed with all the new trends but I must say this one has stumped me. It is such a different world from when I was growing up! My heart truly goes out to you and your family. This is such a senseless tragedy! Thanks again for sharing. It just goes to show that scrapbooking can be defined in so many ways other than just preserving a "happy moment".
I'm so sorry for your loss. Some people think it's all in fun and games until someone dies. It's unfortunate that these things become an issue in our society today. Recently I was watching a movie and the guy decided to stand on the rail of the bridge cracking jokes and thought it was all fun until he slipped and fell. It really makes me think of this choking game and how it's apparently "all fun" until someone dies from it. My sister is a kindergarten teacher and I have a cousin that is 6 years old. I'm going to let them both know about this and make sure they watch out for this game and the warning signs of it.
I hope you find the strength to get through this loss. Your layouts and blogs tap into issues that are affecting our society and well being, and that is something I admire about you. It's not just about your memories it's about the challenges and the things that are going on in our world. You're an original and very influential scrapbooker. Keep posting. We're listening and learning from your layouts.
Take Care,
CreativeSurvivor
I am soo sorry this happened to your family. But you are right about sharing this info. We heard about it on the news a while ago and I made sure I talked to my boys at length about it. It's probably time to talk to them about it again.
So very sorry for your loss.
How terrible!! I´m so sorry for your lost! *HUG* And you are so right! They do the same thing in Sweden...it´s ...i can´t find the words for...it´s...awful...
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I bet it wasn't easy to make a page about. I have 4 children, and have heard of this game, but NEVER about such young children doing it. Thank you again, and I'm so sorry for your family's loss.
(I don't think this is my 'best' page, but I think it is the "most important" page I've ever done. Please read the description and then talk to your children.
Also, do your own research on this - it is shocking! Thank you. If only one child's life is saved, it's made this page worthwhile.)
Description:
A recent tragedy in my family has compelled me to tell others of the dangers of a dangerous trend that children of all ages, including elementary school, have gotten involved in. It is called ‘the choking game', which gives a ‘high' without the use of drugs. Some other names it is known by are: Blackout, Fainting Game, Space Monkey, Dream Game, Suffocation Roulette, Pass-out Game, Flat liner, California Choke, Space Cowboy, Airplaning, Purple Dragon and many more.
Kids call it a game. But THIS IS NOT A GAME. It is a dangerous activity that can kill, and does kill, and recently did kill. Most deaths happen when a child does this while alone, and it results in strangulation. Even if they survive, people who participate are killing brain cells each time they do this. The damage done is permanent and cumulative. In addition, a child choking another child who is injured or dies may be indicted and prosecuted for his part in the death or injury. Believe it or not, youtube and myspace actually have sites where children teach other children how to ‘play' this so-called game. (This is unreal! Those sites should be forbidden – removed)
Please TALK to the children in your life, parents and everyone you know who works with children. Make sure they understand why it is so dangerous to participate in this activity. Ask the schools to teach the dangers of this. There is a petition asking for the D.A.R.E. program to include this asphyxiation information in their curriculum. If you think this is important, please take a look at the petition.
If one life of a child can be saved, it makes it all worthwhile. The statistics are horrifying of children who know of this 'game' and who participate in it. (http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/611538404)
My nephew's daughter is now a statistic of this. She had just turned 13 years old and she will be buried on Friday.
If only someone had warned her that this is NOT a game, that it can kill you. If only someone had warned her ......
