In my opinion LOs don't have to be foo-foo or pretty to evoke strong emotion...isn't that what the true definition of art is?I wanted this LO to express and to remind me of the really important things in life...and to remember how it was to be a kid.It didn't matter if you had money or if your friends were black or white.Young children don't make that distinction.I never really know where a picture will take me.I try to take the time to let it show me what design would suit it best.I used paper that when distressed it would have the appearance of a paper sack or cardboard box(we didn't have plastic grocery bags back then and us kids would find 101 things to do w/ a box).I used natural fiber ties("family ties",LOVE)and distressed rub-ons,antiqueing tint and torn edges. The real pressed daisys represent the 1960s.I added several stories/memories of the good times we had all the while being dirt poor.Examples include:
1."Gary and I went trick-or-treating dressed as Hobos and came back with cans of pork'n beans, sandwiches and boxes of macaroni and cheese beacause we did it in JULY.
2.Saturday thrift stores
3.Making forts out of Grandma's quilts and 2 aluminium chairs
4.Government cheese
You get the gist....I added Duct tape because every poor person knows duct tape is their best friend.
Thank you for allowing me to stroll down memory lane...hope it helps you to center your priorities as much as it has mine.Sincerely,Paula
