Many of you may remember a year ago when a bridge over the Mississippi in Minneapolis collapsed and 13 died. The new one opened five days ago and DH wanted to take that route home, as we neared the bridge I could imagine the sounds of that day, of rendering metal and concrete, of screams, of despair, I was surprised when I saw the beautiful new bridge and forgot to feel afraid for as long as it took to cross it. It is beautiful and has five lanes each way and light rail in the middle. The three curved pillars by the brown building are a monument to those that died and represent the river. It is now one of the safest bridges in the world with a monitoring system on each part of the bridge, each pillar, each section, etc. I couldn't show much of it without being in an airplane but it is a wonder.
