Wow, what a great story - how you met your distant relative online and then the story about your great great grandfather!!! What a treasure this post card is!!
LOVE this!!!! This is wonderful!!! Love how you treated the cardboard and what a wonderful story about your family!!! Gotta love the internet for geneology stuff!!!
wow this is amazing. love the color combo. how you mounted "home" on the journaling card (what a great ideal I must steal from you!) and your right that is awesome you got a copy of the postcard.
Wow! What a neat thing to scrap. I love that things like this are surviving thanks to scrapbooking. With just a photo this memory would not have survived.
This is for my heritage album. The journaling reads: One of the amazing things about the internet is its ability to bring people together that otherwise would never have connected. During my online genealogical research I was blessed with meeting a distant cousin, James Pope. And he shared with me this precious photo postcard that he discovered among his mother's belongings. The photo shows John Alonzo Malosh (my great-great-grandfather) with his two sons, Emmett (my great-grandfather) and Harry (for whom my grandfather was named). I'm not sure when the photo was taken but, I suspect it was after 1912 when I believe Emmett's army career ended, and before 1920 when he was married to a girl from Oklahoma. At some point in here, John's family left Indiana for Illinois, moving from one oil field to another. Both John and Harry stayed in Illinois for the remainder of their days, but Emmett moved on to Oklahoma and Texas, continuing to work in oil fields. John's brother, George, and George's son, Fred (to whom this postcard is addressed) eventually joined them in Illinois as well. The postcard reads: Dear Fred and Laveria and Violet How are you today ? Hope all are well We are very well We had a little rain yesterday must have had hail somewhere as it is nice and cool here. We will soon have our house done We will have a nice place to live but I don't like to move out here but I suppose will have to go where the work is I get awful lonesome here I would love to see you all How is Violet? I would love to see her. Kiss her for me With lots of love to all Aunt Helen and Uncle John TFL!
Cardboard, inked and painted. The branches were a digi file by Christy Haig that I converted and cut with my KNK Element. The font for 'Home' is Springfield D, also cut on my KNK Element and mounted on a journaling spot from K&Co. The font for the rest of the title is Grant's Hand. The pp was a rak that I picked up in Toledo at the WTTS crop. Journaling block is a digi by JBaechtold that I printed out.
