The journaling reads: "Sam I never knew his last name, but he will forever be one of my heros. He was a real cowboy...herded cattle, mended fences, chewed tobacco. Although his "khakis" needed ironing and his hat was sweat stained, I loved him dearly. Step-grandfather, this is my only picture of him. Dalhart, TX circa 1948"
I tried to lighten this picture so I could see his face...wouldn't happen. The large SAM at the top is actually shiny gold, as are the stars around the picture...the scanner won't show that.
