I'm so glad I didn't miss this nostalgic layout Betty. This brings tears and fond memories to all us seniors. All of us had our favorite aprons, which were often inherited from our moms. Thanks so much for including all the journaling, this is going straight to my faves. Luv to you...Trudy
This just warms my heart...the nostalgia here is so sweet...and what a wonderful idea for a layout! When I was very young, my mother taught us first to sew...our first project was an apron...once we had our aprons, the next thing she taught us was how to cook while wearing that apron, and then how to do laundry to wash that apron! And I remember my Grandmother, too, always wearing an apron and the oh, so many uses it had! Thank you for the trip down memory lane!
WOW!!! What a wonderful lo! Love the journaling and the pic of the aprons! I love my aprons and can remember my Mimi and Granny wearing theirs! Love the design of this lo! You did a fantastic job!!!!!! Precious memories for you to have!!!!
Oh, Betty! This is so beautiful. made me cry especially to remember my dear nannny who ALWAYS wore her apron. My mother and I are still apron wearers...my friends always get a kick outta seeing me wear aprons in my kitchen! I'm really inspired to do a LO similiar to this ...my mom still uses Nanny's aprons and I must photograph them when I go home next week. Ps my newest apron is one my son made this year in Home Ec class. Not the prettiest haha but it still gets used! Thank you for creating such a beautiful LO. xo
I love this i do all sorts of those things at work with my apron. Lol people think im crazy when i use it to carry the boxed sandwiches to the vending machine to fill up.
OH!! This page almost brought tears to my eyes....remembering my wonderful grandmother and her aprons!!! The journaling could have been describing her!! I actually received several aprons as shower gifts when I married (1967)....sure wish I had them now!!!
I just love this..wish I had some of my mom's old aprons. This layout and the journaling are just precious and heartwarmingly beautiful. What a fun thing for you and Liz to work on together.
I truly love this. And, the journaling is great. I wish I had one of those aprons. I have one of my moms that she wore all the time. It has a little towel attached to it for wiping your hands while cooking or whatever.
This is a really great LO! I love all the pictures, so cute! The pps are perfect and I absolutely love the journaling. All the embellies and well, just everything is perfect! Such a fantastic job it has to be a fave!
I love this..made me think of my mom. She always had an apron on. When I got a home of my own she was always giving me aprons. I sure wish now, I had kept them, and hers.
This is fabulous! I got that same email about the apron and loved it too. Thanks for the great reminder of all the love wrapped up in one apron. You'll be happy to know that aprons have made a comeback. My cousin's gift shop sells aprons by a couple of different companies and she can hardly keep them in stock!
Besides being such a fabulous topic - this is a gorgeous LO - I love the vintage feel and wonderful photos - especially like the shots of the old pattern covers!
Is this ever cute.. Makes me wished I could find pictures of my grandmothers aprons on the cloths line.. This brings back memories.. You did an awesome job on this layout.. Really like the design and that journaling is outstanding.. LOVE IT!.. You really need to submit this to a magazine!..
I love how this came out!!! Great idea to take pics of all your aprons! When I got the email from Charlotte, my first thought was -- layout!!! LOL! Unfortunately, I don't have any aprons..and definitely not going to make any. This is so cool...and I love the journaling!! FAVE!!
This is a very groovy page!!! Man do I remember my Grandma's and Mother and Aunt's!! We should all start using them again, makes so much sense!! I don't know how many shirts I've ruined!! Again, what an awesome lo and idea!!!!
My MIL asked for an apron for Mother's Day, and you would not believe the trouble I had trying to find one! This is such an incredible page! What a treasure of memories, tradition and art!
This is fa-u-lous, Betty! I love the look back in time, and the peek at how women's lives have changed so much! I don't know ANYONE who still wears aprons, except me. Of course, I don't keep it on most of the day, the way women used to, I just wear it while cooking. But this LO is a wonderful reminder of mom's and grandma's and aunts from our childhoods! I especially like the addition of the paterrn covers at the bottom of the page! Very nice~
I got the idea for this layout from an e-mail that my cousin sent me. I re-worded it a little bit and used it here for my journaling. Then, Sarah and I had a photo shoot with some of our aprons. The embroidered (with the dogs) and the lavender print apron were given to me by my mother. I know the lavender one belonged to my grandmother - and I think my mother made the embroidered one. The green apron with the huge pockets is one that I made. The other three are some that Sarah got at an antique sale.
The journaling reads:
Today people don’t really know what an apron is. The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few. Aprons used less material, so it was easier to wash aprons than dresses.
But, along with that, aprons served as potholders for removing hot pans from the oven. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds and it also made an ideal hiding place for shy kids. It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace the 'old-time apron’. It served so many purposes. Today people would go crazy just trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
The pps and embellies are all Cosmo Cricket except for the background cs and the three vintage buttons. Lettering, flowers, frame and embellies are hand cut. Added some doodling and inking to everything. TFL!
