I began the month of May with a goal to find new ways to use Glimmer Mist and other misting dyes - it become my "May Misting Month". Each day was filled with progress and learning. At the last minute I was able to get into a class on misting taught by Brenda Martell (co-owner of Paper Metal Scrapppers in Payson, AZ - one of my favorite stores in AZ!) where I learned some new ways to look at misting. This layout and the five after are a sampling of what I learned from this amazing adventure.
I decided to work with some Studio Calico paper which got me thinking two ways after studying it for a few minutes -- clean/simple and distressed/grunge. I opted for a distressed look and LOTS of misting as you will see.
For this layout I used strips/bars behind my photo for an "anchor/mat" and to help fill up some empty space (my photo needed to be trimmed and I ended up smaller than I'd hoped). A quick review of my eBook "New to Scrapbooking Quick Guide 3 - Easy Bar Graph and Strip Layouts" helped me make the decision for strips/bars.
A tip I'll share about heavy misting is to tape your paper down on all edges (about 1/8" in from the edge) to a flat surface using Artist's Tape (it won't tear your paper when removed or painters tape might work too). I have a large piece of tempered glass on my counter so I taped to it (the glass can be washed easily and won't stain). Then, I misted until I got the look-and-feel I wanted--waiting until the paper was completely dry before removing the tape. All of the warping from the water in my mists calmed down when my paper was taped, in fact, it came out almost flat when dry. I tore (or you could trim) the unmisted edges and distressed with ink and some edge rolling.
You can see that I mixed colors as I sprayed--daubing the wet, just-sprayed color with a paper towel, plastic wrap and crumpled waxed paper.
Go have some fun!!! Thanks for looking.
Thanks for spreading positivity!
