journaling readsMost of my adult life I have been treated like the pretty, but dumb girl. For the most part I have allowed people to treat me this way. Most people don’t take time to get to know me. They take a look at me and assume I have certain interest and certain personality traits just because I am pretty.
Here is what you don’t know about me. Growing up I was a geeky kid. I had big coke bottle glasses and I wore a patch on my eye. I was awkward and ugly. I stayed in that stage for a long time. By the time I was in high school I lost the glasses and the patch and had even gotten some very cool clothes, but people had preconceived notions that stuck. I was still that geeky girl I wasn’t a cheerleader, homecoming queen, or class president. Most people didn’t notice me. So in my mind I wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t until I got out in the real world that I began to see people did see me as pretty and because of that I got treated differently. This was different than anything I was used to. I began to struggle with a new issue. I was not just a pretty face. I was a person. I was a smart, funny caring, and kind person. Discovering this taught me many lessons; don’t judge, don’t follow the crowd, and be yourself. The lessons I have learned through this prove I am not just a pretty face.
