I have this exact sewing table! I must keep mine open with the machine on top under its hard shell cover. If I folded it, I'd give it an hour before Hubs or the grandkids starts putting stuff on it! Did you use an IKEA component or something else to put the spools of thread on? I admit that once we moved to a town that had an IKEA, my craft room went through a 2 month metamorphosis. But the thread spools (and their bobbins) are still a problem. I have to rewind the spool & bobbin whenever I want to sew. Could you share your solution?
