Thursday, October 6th – A very uneventful day at sea.

Friday, October 7th – Another uneventful day at sea.

Saturday, October 8th – Yet another uneventful day at sea.

Sunday, October 9th - Today we were in Vladivostock, Russia! It was a bit chilly and very overcast but fortunately, it was dry! We had our umbrellas just in case.

We walked on our own starting with the train station. Then we proceeded to the seawall to see some statues and memorials. Vladivostock was a very important Russian military port (like Pearl Harbor was to the USA in WWII) so there were lots of military statues. There was even a WWII Russian submarine which we viewed from outside but we didn't tour inside it.

When we walked by a Baskin Robbins we were surprised to see they sold pizza as well as ice cream, or at least that is what it looks like on the sign.

We rode the funicular up a small mountain (big hill) and then we took a city bus back to the center of town near where the cruise ship was docked. We met a delightful teenager named Dasha who spoke English pretty well. She was surprised to find American tourists on a Russian city bus – she said the American tourists were usually on foot or on tour buses.

We wanted to see Yul Brenner's home and saw a walking tour from the ship. Bill walked up to the tour guide and asked where the Yul Brenner house was; she was very friendly and told Bill that we could tag along with her group – that was their next stop.

The home was the birthplace of Yul Brenner. When he was young his family moved to Japan and he also lived in many other countries. What got a giggle out of everyone was when she said he was married but his wife was very angry and divorced him because he had so many mattresses. Of course, she meant to say he his wife was unhappy because he had so many mistresses.

Next the tour group went to the train station, and since we had already seen it we gave the tour guide a nice tip and left to go back to the ship.
