Shame on me for not commenting on this until now! Allie adores her Aunt T and her Aunt Kris and she can ben seen (over and over) looking at her Aunts with their tats on Facebook. She and I are in awe of your beautiful gesture and lack the words to tell you the depth of our gratitude. Allie really is an amazing young lady and I simply cannot imagine what she would like if she were not Autistic. It is as much a part of her as her blue eyes or her infectious, spontaneous laugh.
You and Kris are amazing. I love you and I thank you!
Great idea! My oldest son Nico is autistic too. And like your Allie...he wins over everyone he comes in contact with...especially at school! Love the idea...I was going to get a tattoo of his name...(which is actually Nicholas but I've always called him Nico) in blue puzzle pieces somewhere on me. But then of course I would need to get 2 more tattoos for my other sons. My youngest has CP as well. But he is highly functioning ...physically....other areas he struggles. TFS!
My sister Kris and I decided it was time to stop talking and start doing. In this pic, mine is the one on the left, even though the Autism tat is on my right wrist.
Now I urge you to check out some of the stats on autism and you'll know one reason why we got the tats. THE main reason we got them was to show Allie our niece, that we love and support her. She's a sweet funny girl with a completely contagious laugh. Her compassion and kindness for others is something so rare, you'd believe it was faked. But the truth about Allie is that all of her is truth. There isn't a mean or unkind bone in her body.
I call her Banana (well, mostly cuz she is one) and she gives the best hugs. She's a big sister, a wonderful daughter, a terrific niece, She calls her grampa (my dad) "Crazy Grampa" (which by the way, is completely fitting!) She loves to read, is tech savvy, and has a way with animals and those less fortunate than her. She's been practicing how to speak gently to my Mom's skittish dog, and she hasn't even met her yet!
She visits the kids in school that suffer from CP and medical and physical problems that limit their time outside the classroom.
Allie has autism. So for her and others like her, Kris and I got tattoos. Allie has touched our hearts in a very permanent way. So, we literally, wear our love for her on our sleeves!
